Which is kinda funny because he helped found HuffPo.
Also, Oprah makes one fucking speech at the Golden Globes and liberals are all like "YAASSSSS QUEEN! BE PRESIDENT NOW!" Soooo fucking dumb.
(But that line Natalie Portman dropped when announcing best director, the award after Oprah's speech, was dope.)

Yup. Whether it’s Oprah, Zuckerberg or Mark Cuban, I HATE the line of thinking that the Dems should nominate their own celebrity billionaire to counter Trump. I can’t tell if it stems from cluelessness or from a desperate desire to quell any populist movements, but either way it’s a terrible idea.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
Big day today.
Alisyn Camerota ripped up Magary's take from GQ because he had the gall to insult Maggie Haberman. (She was a guest on Camerota's show.) Liberal whining is hilarious.
Dianne Feinstein released the full Fusion GPS transcripts. 312 pages of interview. It was a beautiful "fuck you" to Chuck Grassley.
Bannon stepped down from Breitbart.
The DACA/immigration bipartisan stuff was televised for 45 minutes.
North Carolina's districting map was ruled unconstitutional.
Oh, and I actually watched tv today. Too many fucking people discussing Oprah's presidential prospects. And it went on multiple channels for hours. As much as Trump shitting on the media is wrong, there's a part of me that likes it for dumb shit like that.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
If you watched TV you will also have seen the media ripping Trump for going to the National championship game, getting booed, standing for the National anthem and not knowing the words.
They will find anything bad to say about him.
I also don't see what was so great about Oprah's speech. She is saying that black girls will rise up because she won a lifetime achievement award? I think they would be inspired by other firsts like Michelle Obama or Beyonce or the Williams Sisters. And the 1944 Alabama rape story. Is she really comparing 1944 Alabama to #metoo? How was any of this Presidential? Hollywood just wraps itself in its self-importance.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
While I think the #metoo thing is kind of unfortunate because there’s simply no way to throw life lines to those people who do not deserve to have their careers derailed and/or destroyed, and yeah, I’m not a fan of Oprah Winfrey in general (she’s simply another form of huckster), I think it’s a joke that the president of the United States of America doesn’t know, or perhaps more specifically: cannot be made to know the words of the fucking National Anthem. I have no problem with the media doing it’s job pointing this out.degenerasian wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 1:45 am If you watched TV you will also have seen the media ripping Trump for going to the National championship game, getting booed, standing for the National anthem and not knowing the words.

He knows the words. He sings it all the time at state events. He was standing on the field, he's hard of hearing and he's hearing the echo in the big stadium from the choir.

Degen, do you see nothing wrong with a president who grandstands about black people not standing for a national anthem that he apparently can't sing himself?

Sure if it were true. He knows the words. He sings it at his rallies and other events.
It's different at field level, I think he was thrown off and couldn't keep up.

The amount of airtime given in comparison to this versus Oprah was absurd. They actually asked him about Oprah running during the 45 minute cameras-in-the-room, I'm-clearly-stable circle jerk.degenerasian wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 1:45 am If you watched TV you will also have seen the media ripping Trump for going to the National championship game, getting booed, standing for the National anthem and not knowing the words.

My point is neither should have made the news. But not knowing the words to the national anthem when you're being critical of those protesting during it shows massive hypocrisy. That is a separate issue.
My theory: We're being played. Constantly, collectively, and wholly. All of these television media organizations are intentionally deceiving us. It's like watching a person with multiple personality disorder on Jerry Springer. There's this part of our brain drawn to train wrecks. And that is all we're watching all the time -- with these absurd commercials mixed in. Sure, there is Real News sprinkled in here and there, but that's few and far between and when you get to it you're bored.

Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
The national anthem thing is stupid. He didn't sing along with the whole song. That's hardly proof that he doesn't know the words. I think the man's a moron, but he hears that song ALL THE TIME, and there are other videos of him singing along.
Focusing on stupid shit like this when he shows greater stupidity and/or incompetence every single day is part of what allows Trump supporters to ignore his true failings. It just makes him stronger.

Totally Kafkaesque
Re: The Indictment Thread (Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part II)
Eh, I wouldn't go that far. I think most news orgs would rather not be doing this, just not enough to sacrifice the easy clicks. Like if they could keep their numbers with President Hillary, they'd be all in.

So true. They can just say that the media and the left will pick on him for dumb things like this because they hate him. Not because he treats the United States like he treated contractors in New Jersey - easily exploited for personal gain.Shirley wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 11:33 am The national anthem thing is stupid. But for morons on both sides, a controversy like this is a lot easier to digest and choose sides on than something harder to figure out like tax laws or diplomacy.

Yep, no reason at all for the media to bring this up and make fun of Trump for not knowing the words to the Anthem... Trump made a huge deal attacking Kaepernick and other NFL players for their lack of respect during the anthem, even calling on owners to "fire the SOBs"* so I don't think it is a stretch at all to make fun of him for looking lost and confused while trying to sing the song he holds so dearly. Trump is constantly pushing himself as a patriotic man of God in order to control his base, when clearly he doesn't give a fuck about anything other than himself, so the media needs to call him on this.
I also see a huge difference between what I've seen, which is mostly jokes, versus holding this out as a scandal. Trump is a pathological liar, and being in the Greater New York media area my entire life, I've watched his lying and shameless media whoring my whole life. He is, and always has been a sociopathic conman, and it's essential that the media calls out his Propaganda Machine. The minute the media stops, his propaganda goes unchecked, and becomes accepted truth. Every single day Trump says or does several things that would have been unconscionable coming from any other President, and the day the media stops calling him on it is the day it becomes normalized.
I keep seeing Trump supporters citing the statistic that 90% of news coverage about Trump is negative. I have no idea how that was measured or by whom, but accepting that number as accurate, it isn't proof of a media bias when the President says and does shockingly horrible things every single day. While an impartial media is crucial, that doesn't mean they should give 50% positive coverage to a President who is calling for the imprisonment of his opponents, ordering his crowds to commit violence, threatening the Free Press, obstructing justice, laundering money for criminal organizations, possibly colluding with hostile foreign governments to sway the Presidential Election...
*The President calling on business owners to fire employees for political speech is the absolute definition of violating the First Amendment. The President demanding punishment for peaceful political protests FFS!

Peter Hoekstra, a former Congressman that a properly functioning State Department would not have allowed within 200 miles of a foreign country let alone allow to become an Ambassador.

He (Hoekstra) speculated that some 10-15 percent of the Muslim community in the world — 270 million people — were radical Islamist militants and appeared to imply that Huma Abedin had “egregious” ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, a claim that The Washington Post’s fact-checker Glenn Kessler, and other publications, have determined as “bogus.” On another far-right show, Hoekstra said he had considered the possibly that President Barack Obama might be intentionally aiding the rise of Muslim extremists.
