Re: Random Politics
Ed Royce (R-CA) is retiring from the House. Although I have lost all respect for thr Rs in Congress (and everywhere esle) who have placed party before country in the face of the unprecedented tub of pond scum in the White House, Royce has my respect for the following story
Joel Mowbray, who has spent much time on the road with Chairman Royce, shared his favorite story: “I was with him when he confronted Mahmoud Abbas in the Palestinian Authority presidential palace in Ramallah during an AIEF [America-Israel Educational Foundation] trip. There were four Jewish Democrats with him, he was the sole Republican on the trip… After the cameras left the room, Royce, in this toe-to-toe setting, confronted Abbas on his Holocaust denial and said, ‘Dr. Abbas, I know we’re supposed to call you doctor because you have a PhD in Holocaust denial. Abbas’s face goes ashen white, and he said, ‘I want to talk to you about an interview you gave recently to an Iranian-owned Hezbollah radio in Lebanon, in which you yet again denied the Holocaust. You know, my father was a Forward Observer in Patton’s Third Army,’ and Royce pulled out this full-size manila envelope with photos that his father took and starts putting them onto the table that’s set up between them and he says, ‘These are photos that my father took on the day Dachau was liberated. These photos represent one day at one camp. There were countless other such examples that occurred, and for you to say what you have said and continue to say about the Holocaust is deeply dangerous.’ He even, by the way, put one of the photos in Abbas’s lap, because he refused to look at them. To me, that sums up everything that Ed Royce is... The mark of Ed Royce is fearlessness, especially in terms of dealing with other people in diplomatic settings.”
This came from the Jewish Insider. I should note as an aside , that in the speech that Abbas recently gave to the AIC meeting denouncing Trump's declaration on Jerusalem, he denied that there was any Jewish claim to that city, accusing them of forging history among other things.

Re: Random Politics
3 uses of the word "false," along with one each of "outrageous" and "lie." Shame on the media for not properly vetting the facts of the story!A statement from James F. Bennett, our attorney:
“The Governor has now seen the TV report that ran tonight. The station declined to provide the tape or transcript in advance of running their story, which contained multiple false allegations. The claim that this nearly three-year old story has generated or should generate law enforcement interest is completely false. There was no ‘blackmail,’ and that claim is false. This personal matter has been addressed by the Governor and Mrs. Greitens privately years ago when it happened. The outrageous claims of improper conduct regarding these almost three-year-ago events are a lie.”
But it did happen. Luckily the wife and the creator have forgiven him.
Still, the image of the governor going all Fifty Shades with another woman while his wife is pregnant, that'll definitely alienate the GOP base......with God’s mercy Sheena has forgiven and we have emerged stronger. We understand that there will be some people who cannot forgive — but for those who can find it in your heart, Eric asks for your forgiveness, and we are grateful for your love, your compassion, and your prayers.”

Re: Random Politics
I believe his wife was pregnant based on my piecing together of the timelines in this.
He's been positioning himself for a 2020 presidential run ever since he took the oath of office. He's also been acting skeezily as a governor. Broke tradition and installed a code lock on the governor's press office door ... Refused to do interviews and instead only filmed social media videos ... Is now being investigated for the use of an encrypted/vanishing texting app for official Missouri business ... Tried to kick the someone he didn't like off the board of education and replace her with a school voucher supporter ... the list goes on and on.
Sad thing is too, the guy he beat was a very, very conservative Democrat who used to be a Republican and was the state's Lt. Gov. We can't have nice things.

Re: Random Politics
I'm reminded of the great series "Boss" with Kelsey Grammer.
There was a young up and coming politician in that series who was cheating on his wife. She only cared inasmuch as it might hurt his rise up the political ladder.

Re: Random Politics
Is the use of terminology like "contains inaccuracies", which could mean "it was in October when I blackmailed her and not September", as a blanket invalidation technique more widespread right now or am I just noticing it more?

At least from the outside looking in, that's a fair assessment of the Clinton marriage.

Re: Random Politics
It's the go-to response by Trump's people and the GOP the past couple months, and it's infuriating. If the facts and evidence are mounting against you, what else can you do? I saw a clip of GOP Rep Matt Gaetz with Erin Burnett. He railed on the Steele Dossier being fully 100% discredited because not every single fact had been verified. Not even proven false, just unverified. Then Burnett pointed out that much have the Dossier has been verified, he turned the table, and tried to accuse her of saying every single sentence was true because some of it is verified. He is one slippery fucker.

Re: Random Politics
Every Dem on this list should be asked two questions:
1. Do they actually believe that Trump is a threat to our democracy?
2. If yes, why did they just vote to give him expansive domestic surveillance powers?
I would particularly love to hear the rationale from Schiff and Swalwell, who have been two of the biggest grandstanders on the Russia investigation.
Re: Random Politics
Hmm, that sounds familiar.

This is a fun story. I love the guy's explanation for not standing. Then the girl is all like "How about I don't owe you one?" which is also awesome.
