Re: Temporary Television
Watched the last few episodes of AP Bio all in a bunch last night and I have to say I really, really like it. I was really glad to see it renewed for a second season. It's kind of funny how it takes what is really a pretty formulaic sitcom in a lot of respects, but gives it a really dark twist at times. You can make a case that it's absolutely the darkest sitcom on a broadcast network.

AP Bio is awesome. All of it. But the actors they cast for the class are especially good.

Re: Temporary Television
Totally agree, in a lot of ways it's a throwback to the 80's formulaic model, while ramping up the dark and quirkiness of shows like Parks and Rec or the Office. I'm still a little leery it can avoid getting boring, but I had the same concerns with all of my favorite sitcoms at this stage. The characters and actors are great, hopefully they can find a new direction when they tap out on the current path. Totally crushing on the Indian girl, and remind myself the actress is 24, so it's not creepy.brian wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 9:32 am Watched the last few episodes of AP Bio all in a bunch last night and I have to say I really, really like it. Re: Temporary Television
I think they found a pretty solid "voice" by the end of season one, which you couldn't even really say about The Office or Parks & Rec at that point of each show. I think you were alluding to this, but really the biggest issue is going to be what to do with the show moving forward when you have a bunch of kids who obviously aren't in high school any more. They can do one more season (season two) with the current paradigm, but then will very likely have to figure something else out.The Sybian wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 12:52 pmTotally agree, in a lot of ways it's a throwback to the 80's formulaic model, while ramping up the dark and quirkiness of shows like Parks and Rec or the Office. Just another tap in for AP Bio. Love that show... And while I can be easy to please when it comes to movies, my dance card is so full for TV shows, that a show has to be REALLY good to make it into the rotation.

Re: Temporary Television
Yup. I quit on Parks and Rec after 3 or 4 episodes, then gave it another shot in Season 2. I stuck with The Office after being underwhelmed in Season 1 because I loved the British version and Carell.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 1:06 pm Just another tap in for AP Bio. Re: Temporary Television
I'm surprised anyone who watched season one of Parks and Rec stayed around. It was great from season two on though.

Re: Temporary Television
I’ll ring in on AP Bio. It’s well-done and well-acted... I’m just not sure it’s funny. I get a couple laughs an episode. And I generally have an appreciation for Black comedy. It’s enough to stay in the rotation.
I watched Parks and Rec from the beginning, even tough I had similar misgivings of its first season. I mainly stuck it out because Amy Pohler’s run on SNL gave her a long leash with me.

Re: Temporary Television
I waited on it as my dance card was full when it started. I knew of its greatness so easy to power through season one's mehness.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Wed May 09, 2018 7:19 pm I'm surprised anyone who watched season one of Parks and Rec stayed around. It was great from season two on though.

Fox killed Last Man On Earth too. Guess they just don't want any good shows.

Inconsistent, but I'd say my favourite series on TV.
Holt is gold.
Could be a Netflix pickup maybe?

Re: Temporary Television
The first five episodes of The Handmaid's Tale this season have been as dark as any continuous storyline show i can ever remember on TV.

Re: Temporary Television
and most likely Hulu at least in the US, as it's partially owned by Fox and they already have episodes there.

Re: Temporary Television
I liked both Last Man on Earth and B99 and both fell victim to me generally being sleepy at night and only having an hour or so to watch TV after the kids go to bed and I wish that wasn't the case.

Great news - as long as they keep Adrian Pimento off the show!

I mean, I'm not really shocked that she was canceled... But the speed here? That's pretty astounding.

That show was killing in the ratings.

She'll probably move it over to NRA TV, or make a living opening for Jeff Dunham.
The biggest shock to me is that she remained relatively stable enough to get a season in the can.

Re: Temporary Television
What's kind of fucked up through all of this is that the original show was pretty progressive in a lot of ways.
I'm wondering how the networks will try to figure out a way to go after the MAGA crowd with a show that doesn't have someone clearly going through some kind of degenerative brain disease at the helm.

The statement had probably been crafted before they signed the deal to pick up the show. I mean, what she did is not surprising at all, is it?rass wrote: ↑Tue May 29, 2018 1:19 pmYes, that's what I meant. Looking forward to ABC green-lighting that episode of "Blackish" about Kaepernick that I've been hearing so much about.

Keep in mind, that show isn't owned by ABC.
Someone else could pick it up.
