Reading some stuff today, the UFC TV PPV feed was overloaded and went down. When it came back up it was unencrypted and free. So a bunch of people who paid are gunna be mad.

horrible exhibition (but at free, a bargain!). Honestly, a fighter like GGG would have paralyzed McGregor within minutes. Outside of the early bouts on Bein Sports' Mexican Boxing shows, or the sort of scrubs they throw out on Top Rank when there's an early KO and they need to fill time with guys with records like 2-1-1 who are standing by to fill time just in case, I don;t think I've seen a worse boxer than McGregor last night.

He was pushing punches. He threw punches that moved vertically. He committed so many fouls that my daughter was wondering if the ref had been told to not take points away.

A fucking joke (but as I said, worth the price!). I sound bitter because I don't know any bookies.

Yeah, but there was no way I could put up enough money to make the bet worthwhile. Had to balance the potential benefits of a few hundred extra dollars and the living hell that my life would have become if Mayweather was in the tank.

Telling my wife that we'd have to cancel the new couch and bed because of a bet... no thanks!

One of my favorite features of ESPN Insider is the predictions by pro betters, which are often spot-on. This guy Johnny Wilds nailed the fight in his pre-fight analysis:

I believe GGG is the real deal in the ring and should be able to secure the win. I am fearful of the judges being appointed to this fight in Dave Moretti, Adalaide Byrd and Don Trella, as Moretti and Byrd in particular have been overly kind to Canelo in the past. I am making it 9-1 in favor of GGG to beat Canelo but as mentioned in the event it does go to the cards, this has controversy written all over it.

Another better with an uncanny call:

Michael Mohan (boxing sharp): "I give GGG a slight edge over Canelo. Nonetheless, I believe Canelo will get every benefit when it comes down to the scorecards. I'll have a small play on GGG to win by decision hedged with the fight to go the distance."

Doesn't say much for boxing that sharp betters were accurately predicting that Golovkin would get hosed, right down to the judge who would do it.

Looks like Deontay Wilder may fight Tyson Fury. That would make some sense, as Joshua does not seem especially eager. In spite of my affection for British boxers (I had two different avatars featuring Prince Naseem Hamed, after all), I don't blame Joshua; despite some supposed evidence to the contrary, I don't think he matches up at all well against Wilder.

Am I right to assume that although Golovkin probably won the fight, any close decision was always going to go to the younger, more marketable fighter who fights for the more powerful promoters?

Wild fight - Fury looked great and I had it 115-112 for him. Wilder got the two knockdowns, but he looked baffled throughout the fight.

Draw means big money rematch, but Fury should have won.

I just want to put this out there, Fury is a fantastically adaptable boxer, with really, really good feet.

He bamboozled Klitschko three years ago and he did the same for 10 rounds against Wilder on Saturday night. Klitschko was a vastly supieror boxer than Wilder and both of them gave up high and reach to Fury.

Wilder's technique is at times simply terrible and he is constantly off balance when he throws his right (even more so when he loads up against a taller guy, who can switch to southie at any point). Wilder has been taller than pretty much every guy he has faced and has always had a reach advantage.

He is a great finisher, but really tall, defensively sound boxers will always have a good opportunity to beat him. It is fortunate for Wilder that he has such length and can finish because he is also really naive defensively and gives away a lot of rounds.

Fury for the most part was able to frustrate Wilder and keep him out of range. Fury is also coming off a massive boxing layoff (let alone his weight loss over the last 12 months and his mental health issues).

Fury and Wilder are as opposite as you like in heavyweight boxing terms. Saturday night simply showed the extent of this as Fury made light work of Wilder for all but 5 - 10 seconds of an engaging 12 round contest. Those two knockdowns ultimately cost him a deserved win. I have no idea what the judges were watching, but for me Fury won 116 -110 and without the knockdowns the scores would have been 120 - 108.

I just listened to Simmons and Cousin Sal talking about the fight, and he suggested that boxing go to 5 judges as it would mitigate the effect that one delusional judge has on the scoring of a fight.

Ultimately, I have seen far worse injustices in scoring, but that one judge having Wilder winning the first three rounds is nonsensical.

And I always hated Fury - saw too many of his fights because there's a Canadian movie channel that used to show all the fight cards out of the UK where he's been hyped since he was 5-0 or so. Fought Euro tomato cans, shot off his big mouth etc., etc.

But he was great against Klitschko who seemed half asleep during their fight, but Saturday night he blew me away. What a brilliant fight he had, and his chin must be made of iron.

He really has a gift for it. I watched the replay of a couple of Loma's fights they were rebroadcasting last week and he does a fine job calling the action. Especially for someone like me who doesn't see a lot of the nuance of a fight.

Yeah, ESPN does a good job on the fights (although I could always do without Stephen A. Smith).
