Changing user name?
Is it possible? I was hoping to recover my former glory, whilst not disassociating my account from the posts I've made under this name.
I checked the control panel, and don't see the option. That probably answers my question, but I guess I'll post it anyhow; blast this damn keyboard with no delete key... ;-)

That's something that Shirley - who is the admin for the site - will need to handle. I don't see a way I can change usernames as a moderator.

Actually the underscore in my name stands for David.

Since we've now gone in this direction, does anyone know any Davids under the age of ~10? Neither of my kids have been in school with one yet.

Wife's cousin's kid is David. Named after his grandfather.

Saying this as a(nother) Dave: Don't trust any adult who goes by "David" instead of the short form.

With the exception of my neighbor who is the salt of the earth, I’ve never met a “Todd” who isn’t an asshole.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Tied with Mel Ott at Number 25 is Miguel Cabrera at 511.

Re: Changing user name?
I can refute those last two with the aforementioned grandfather and the other as one of my closest friends.
But the other Todd I know is a total douchenozzle for certain.

Lots of Liams, too. You know, come to think of it, I can't think of a single David who was a friend of my boys or played on a team with them. And my boys are now 17 and 14. I had never noticed that.mister d wrote: Tue Jul 03, 2018 8:50 am Since we've now gone in this direction, does anyone know any Davids under the age of ~10? In contrast, at work (and at Swamp), I'm surrounded by other Daves.
Totally Kafkaesque

Chief of my department insists on the full David. I still call him Dave. Definitely don’t trust him.Johnny Carwash wrote: Tue Jul 03, 2018 9:21 am Saying this as a(nother) Dave: Don't trust any adult who goes by "David" instead of the short form.
Re: Changing user name?
Seems like all kids nowadays go by the formal versions of their names. When I was a kid, there were Billys, Pats, Andys and Dannys. Now they would be called William, Patrick, Andrew and Daniel.

Or by different short forms, like Drew for Andrew. That's what my brother-in-law (who is literally half my age) does...sancarlos wrote: Wed Jul 04, 2018 2:42 pm Seems like all kids nowadays go by the formal versions of their names. ETA: I was very confused by short forms as a child. My name, legally, is Johannes, but my Mum (English through-and-through) called me "Jack," whilst my Dad (an Afrikaner who immigrated in his 20s) called me "Hans." And my wife calls me "Johnny." So I suppose I'm still confused. ;-)
Re: Changing user name?
I have a Keith and a Noah (no readily available diminutive). I also have a Madeline who insists on the full name (“I am NOT Maddy!”). Benjamin is Ben to his family and Bench to his friends and Elizabeth is sometimes Beth to her family and Lizzy (heaven help her) to her friends.
My oldest was Joey to his grandparents when he was small and Siah to his siblings, but he insisted on the full Josiah by the time he was 10.

I chose my user name as a tribute to 2 of my favourite Cleveland Browns from way back in the day.

Call it a tribute to Phil Lynott. :)Moreta wrote: Wed Jul 04, 2018 5:58 pm Elizabeth is sometimes Beth to her family and Lizzy (heaven help her) to her friends.
Re: Changing user name?
Phil Lynott deserves any and all tributes. Did you know he was slated to play Jimi Hendrix in a movie, but died before it was made?

Odd meaning incredibly good, if he likes Thin Lizzy? :)Moreta wrote: Thu Jul 05, 2018 7:51 amHer 17 year old brother would appreciate that. He’s got odd taste in music.
Re: Changing user name?
Damn good, especially for a 17 year old! We took a short road trip yesterday and he managed the playlist. We had Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Dire Straits, and a lot of Dave Brubeck. I think I’ll keep him, even if he did throw Despacito in there.
