Flower signs three year extension (starting 19-20) @7M per. A year too long for me if he maintains a large reg season workload. If they work it (intentionally this time) like last season where the backups take a little less than half the games before playoffs then this is a solid deal.

Caryk files an application to get Karlsson to disclose any information they have on the harassment
Monika Caryk, the fiancée of current Florida Panthers forward Mike Hoffman, has filed an application with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice to disclose information in a cyberbullying scandal involving Melinda Karlsson, the wife of Ottawa Senators player Erik Karlsson.
Caryk filed the application, called a Norwich Order, on Thursday, according to court documents obtained by ESPN. In an attempt to clear her name, Caryk is looking for Melinda Karlsson to disclose any information she has pertaining to the alleged harassment.
Caryk's court document also says that on June 21, her lawyer called Ms. Karlsson's lawyer and asked him to provide or describe any information the Karlsson's had in their possession relating to the cyberbullying.
"He said he was instructed not to by his client," Caryk's court document says.
The Peace Bond is currently under seal with the Court. When the allegations first surfaced, the Senators released a statement that said the organization is "investigating this matter in co-operation with the NHL and will take whatever steps are necessary to protect the safety and privacy of our players and their families."
According to Caryk's court application, "no such investigation has taken place to my knowledge."

NBC Schedule is out
More variety, less rivalries. Vegas twice to start the season. NHL All-Star game in San Jose will be in primetime.
And Bruins-Flames NBCSN on Oct 17.
If the Flames don't retire Iginla's jersey that night they are absolute idiots.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Overall, it's probably better, but the insistence of showing the national NBC games in February and March at 12:30 p.m. ET means that Western teams are locked out of over the air national games. Somehow the freaking Rangers get five truly national games, but no team anywhere west of Minneapolis gets any.

Also, it's a little annoying that NBC is bragging about moving start times up for the second game of Wednesday doubleheaders to 10 p.m. PT since that will just mean you'll never see the first half of the first period of most of those games. (And there's no local option to "switch" to.) So basically fans of Western teams just get fucked over a little bit more by NBC. I'm not sure how an extra half hour matters, but if they're worried about east coast audiences staying tuned in through 15 minutes of in-studio banter, then fuck them. They can just go to bed.

I think they should let the fans retrieve them within a couple of weeks if they want, but if not, then putting them in a display in the arena or practice facility is cool as hell.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
The Caps don't just display them, so that's not quite accurate. You can retrieve them from some spot in the arena at some point (1/2 hour?) after the game ends. And it's overall a good practice because it encourages more folks to throw their hats.

Overarching -- Let player keep as many hats as he likes to do with what he wants for his hat trick, whether that's choosing to donate the lot or keep one for a momento or whatever.
THEN:
Allow fan to retrieve if they wish
Big display for team/fans
Donations to shelters/medical wards
Everything else is stupid and low-effort.

Wow. I guess Montreal is in full-on rebuild mode. I know Suzuki is a nice prospect but given Pacioretty’s track record as a scorer (and his affordable contract), I think Vegas ought to be thrilled here.degenerasian wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 1:13 am The popular 1am trade!

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
I like that Montreal shot for the upside prospect rather than collecting several. Also wonder what Tatar's place was in the trade and if it was as negative value attached. Also also find it interesting that Pacioretty is on a great final year contract which carries the least amount of value to Vegas relative to any other contender.
Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Yeah, from the Vegas perspective I don't hate it, but it basically needs to include the picks sent to Detroit for Tatar as part of the overall value (which means it's not good given that). Obviously Tatar wasn't fitting in here for whatever reason. Also hate to see Suzuki go since I was pretty high on him, but at least it's not Glass. Hopefully can safely assume at this point that Glass is probably near untouchable.
I don't know how much Vegas can have discussed it with Pacioretty before the trade because of tampering, but I have to wonder if his re-signability was discussed at all as part of this. If not, it's an expensive deal if Vegas struggles and ends up having to ship out Pacioretty at the trade deadline because they're not sure he'll re-sign.
It actually also lowers Vegas' cap number quite a bit for this year, even with some of Tatar's salary being retained so can't help wondering if there's some other move coming.

Well, there we go:
I'm assuming they have the structure of the deal in place and just need to work out some finer points before they announced it.
ETA: Extension is official. Terms to be announced at 11:45 PT presser by GMGM.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Seems like a solid trade for both sides, which is weird, although Montreal has such a shaky track record that you wonder if Vegas is doing the thing where they figure out first their prospect is valued a tier or two too high. And you should probably not think "what if we'd just gone in on Pacioretty at the deadline instead".
I wondered the opposite, if this was part 1 of 2 where part 2 is going all in on Karlsson.
Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Yeah, that's definitely possible. If you make some assumptions like Theodore would probably be part a deal for Karlsson as well as prospects and picks, this clears just enough room to get Karlsson's 18-19 number under the cap. I also wonder how much McPhee's conversation with Gusev in Russia this summer plays into all of this. If they get Gusev to come over next year from the KHL for "nothing" then forward prospects like Glass and Suzuki become a lot more expendable.mister d wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 10:35 am Seems like a solid trade for both sides, which is weird, although Montreal has such a shaky track record that you wonder if Vegas is doing the thing where they figure out first their prospect is valued a tier or two too high. Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Some people on Twitter are saying it’s a bad trade for Vegas because of what they paid for Tatar. Overpaying for Tatar was the bad trade. I think this is a really good trade for Vegas.
I wonder what Bergevin would've gotten for Pacioretty if he'd have pulled the trigger at the deadline.

Yeah, hard not to get too caught up in the sunk cost fallacy but if you look at just the terms of this deal, it's at worst probably a pretty good deal for Vegas. Not having to part with a #1 or with Glass is pretty big.sancarlos wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 11:10 am Some people on Twitter are saying it’s a bad trade for Vegas because of what they paid for Tatar. Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Gonna overanalyze this from Vegas' perspective a little and say this also solves some relatively minor (all things considered) problems they were going to have with building their lines this season.
As it stood, there was no clarity on where Tatar was going to play and how the lines were going to be constructed. With this deal, Pacioretty slots nicely into the second line with Stastny for sure and Tuch most likely and allows Haula to center the third line and is a massive upgrade defensively from the second line last year.
ETA: I agree that retaining some of the salary isn't optimal but mostly because it limits any possible deals VGK can make at the trade deadline since they're maxed out on salary retention spots for this year, but that's probably not going to bite them. It could two or three years down the road when they're still paying some of Tatar's salary though. (Actually there's three salary retention spots, not two so guess they're not maxed out. If that's what it took for Montreal to do the deal so be it.)

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Would seem to indicate they insisted he was included, not Montreal. Probably would have been better off holding him. (But this helps the Rangers so I'm fine with it.)
Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
Interesting part is that Montreal retained $450K of Pacioretty's deal for this year (essentially making 18-19 a wash cap-wise) which leads me to believe you're right to speculate McPhee has another deal coming.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
This past Friday, (sorry for not reaching out, Brian) I went to City National and happened upon a 4 on 4 scrimmage. There weren't any numbers on the jerseys, and when we first walked in I wasn't sure if we were at a rookie camp or not, but Subban is kind of hard to miss. It didn't take long after that to realize that Marchessault and Karlsson were out there too. Best part? I saw Bark Andre Furry.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
I haven't been since they spruced it up this summer but planning to catch a practice during training camp. I live only about 4 miles from there so it's nice to be able to hop over there on a whim. I saw most of the players had come back by Labor Day and they had been organizing self practices (like you saw) for quite awhile until they can officially start team-organized activities. Just another reason why I think there's not going to be too much of a dropoff or regression this year. I don't know if they can hit 109 again but 100+ (especially with Pacioretty in tow) if they stay healthy is definitely possible.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 1:08 pm This past Friday, (sorry for not reaching out, Brian) I went to City National and happened upon a 4 on 4 scrimmage. Just came here to say that. No issues with the money or the term.
ETA: I wonder how much no state income tax comes into play here. $7M a year in Vegas is the same post-tax as $9.5M in Montreal.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
From outside McPhee seems erratic.
He's given the most generous expansion team rules ever, but instead of loading up on the best players available, he makes a bunch of deals for picks. Okay, so he wants to go the patient draft and developed route.
The team turns out better than anyone hoped, so he trades a bunch of picks for veteran 2nd line winger. So maybe they're in win now mode now.
Let's two-thirds of his second line go for nothing because he doesn't want to pay ageing vets. Sticking with the long-term plan of draft and develop?
Signs a 32-year old to a generous 3-year deal at $6.5 mil per.
Trades the veteran winger acquired with a bunch of picks, along with a top prospect and pick, for a 29 year old winger and will sign him to a long-term deal.

Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
I think the only move in there you can really seriously criticize is the Tatar trade deadline deal last year and even then it was more about the potential draft capital lost and not decision to get Tatar specifically. Still, they had the picks to trade and the first they gave up was essentially a high second (30th overall, you should be able to get a useful player there, but they didn't miss out on a possible franchise cornerstone like Ottawa is going to miss out on thanks to the Duchesne deal).
Even after all those deals, Vegas has all their own picks plus two surplus thirds in 2019 and two surplus seconds in 2020 AND two top 50 prospects in Glass and Brannstrom.
And arguably the best top two lines in the Western Conference going into the season.

He didn't plan to content then they accidentally did and adjusted. Tatar was a disaster. I don't see how anyone can complain about the contracts to Stastny and Pacioretty.
Re: 2018 NHL Offseason
This is weird.
Hard to imagine this doesn't end any other way than Holland getting the boot at the end of this season and Yzerman taking over in Detroit.
