Oh shit, the one I thought was a decent call was not. Clearly shuffling feet. I don't even think the baseline was worth calling.

Wasnt like the kid rose to dunk and the guy slid under him. Hes just lame as hell and didnt bother trying to challenge the shot. NBA refs call that stuff a million times better than the college guys.

Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
I think the offensive guy stuck his arm out pretty good, but he was not in what I would call a good defensive position.
I should mention i frigging HATE wisconsin and they get away with that shit all the time and have forever. The Final Four game in 2015 featured some of the most ridiculous calls, and i generally try to give the refs the benefit of the doubt.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
Yep. College refs LOVE calling offensive fouls, especially against players and teams they perceive as more athletic. And AB is right about that 2015 Wisconsin team. They got a ridiculously favorable whistle all season long. Coach K basically won the title game by chewing out the refs going into halftime and pointing out that they weren’t calling any fouls on Wisconsin. When they actually started (correctly) calling fouls on Wisconsin in the second half, Duke took the game over.

What you guys haven't mentioned is that he is a scrappy white dude. They always get in position to take the charge.

They were averaging like 9 fouls a game or something stupid.Joe K wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:07 amYep. Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
I looked it up and Wisconsin got called for only 2 fouls in the first half of that title game, compared to 7 for Duke. They got called for 11 (non-intentional) fouls in the second half, compared to 6 for Duke.A_B wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:11 amThey were averaging like 9 fouls a game or something stupid.Joe K wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 11:07 amYep. And now a shellacking of a pretty good UNC team.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 10:10 am MI looked rather sleepy in its games leading up to last night. They proceeded to destroy Villanova on the road 73-46.
73-46.
84-67.
They are so much better on D than even last year's very good defensive team. And they can flex their set-up almost on the fly from big to 5 out wide, so they can play with pretty much anyone.
So, MI is now a basketball school.

I gave them almost 100 grand in tuition for college and law school, so yeah.

Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
I say this not to brag, but out of amazement. Since the start of last season, UVA is 40-3. It's truly mind boggling.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
But that's not people will remember about the team.

If the only thing you know about Virginia basketball is the UMBC loss, your opinion couldn't matter less to me.

They’ve obviously been super good for a while. But history doesn’t remember super good as much as it does outlier underdog stories.

Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
Oh sure, I know that to most folks, the UMBC loss will be something they remember for a long time. I think most actual college basketball fans also know that UVA has been a top ten team for 5-6 years in a row now. As someone who's followed this program for nearly 40 years, that last part matters a LOT more to me. And I'm still not used to it, which is great.A_B wrote: ↑Wed Dec 12, 2018 8:52 pmThey’ve obviously been super good for a while. And if they win a title or even get to a few final fours in the next ten years or so, the UMBC loss becomes a funny bit of trivia more than the definition of a program that some people seem to think it is. Same if/when another #1 seed manages to lose, especially if it's a more traditional power that's already won titles.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
You always bring up UMBC. Theres always twenty five years of terrible play between Ralph Sampson and Malcolm Brogdon.
Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
Actually, I don’t recall ever ribbing Shirley about that.

Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
A shitty thing about Calipari’s recruiting system is that players like Green, who would be really good if given time to develop, get pushed aside in favor of the latest highly touted frosh. Ironically, the one time he didn’t do this, it cost him the 2015 title. The Harrisons had no business starting over Booker and Ulis.

I think La Salle is going to be it. He's a good player, and with starter minutes will put up good numbers. And was universally seen as the best off court dude on the team, i think.

Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
Things have started off rocky under Howard but getting a kid like Green with the new coach and the potential facility upgrade could be a program changer. Excited for him to pick fucking Seton Hall so I can run into him in town every few weeks and be reminded of this.

Steve Alford fired today. He should have stayed at New Mexico. You are never gonna reach the levels UCLA wants you to reach, you make a sweet 16 at New Mexico and you're a god forever.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Re: 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Season
No one is REALLY paying attention to college basketball this time of year. So the fact that MI is ranked #2 in the country behind Duke right now is a pretty low-key item. The fact that they are in their annual "doldrums of December" where they don't play anyone of note and they only play one game a week contributes to this being so under the radar.
Here's a rather controversial thing for a Wolverine homer to say: They are seriously over-rated right now. I know they are in a weird part of their schedule, but they have played 3 extremely mediocre games in a row now. The last game against Binghamton, despite the double digit margin of victory, was a 3 point game at the 12 minute to go mark.
They are really struggling to hit shots and they have trouble with zone D when this happens.
I'm not saying they aren't a very good team. And they may snap out of it once they get back into playing truly competitive conference games. But their record and ranking is not reflected by their play the last run of games. Not even close.

I'm sure I'm fantastically late to the party, but when did FOX start using the old NBA on NBC music for college basketball? Surely there is some struggling talented musician out there that can come up with a hip 10 sec jingle instead of harkening back to a time when Charles Barkley was dominant.

Azuibuke out for the year for Kansas. Same injury he had as a freshman but to the other hand.
