His new party gaining a lot of momentum in Alberta and Quebec. He can fund raise like no other in Canada and the Conservative leadership was stolen from him due to the ridiculous ranking ballot vote.
and he is making the rounds in America

Pruitt, what do you think of Bernier?

Well, since you asked...
I think the guy is a grade A douche bag whose previous biggest claim to fame was leaving top secret files in his girlfriend's apartment when he was in Harper's cabinet.
And I laugh at those who think that Libertarianism would work in this country. Furthermore, his usage of populist talking points irritates the hell out of me. He's a schmuck who will inflame anger and intolerance to gain a measure of power. The most loathsome type of politician.
I would vote for my dog before I would vote for that weasel.

Leaving files in his girlfriend's house was ridiculous. Wasn't she part of a motorcycle gang as well?
I fear that things are shifting his way though. The conservative party is so weak, the NDP barely has a leader and Justin is Justin.
He could ensure a Liberal minority in the next election.
I think it's the opposite. He will ensure a Liberal minority.
Liberals will scoop up the useless NDP seats and anything else that is close, Bernier and Scheer will split giving it to the Liberals.
It could be a bigger Liberal majority just based on numbers.

I know nothing of the guy and had heard nothing of him before this thread.
But, I just wanted to note that this is a first-class takedown!

This is nothing new for us in the West. It's all about protecting Quebec.
I used to think that such statements were paranoid and ridiculous.
Certainly don;t feel that way any more. Like I said a while ago, the Liberals won't pick up a single seat between Vancouver's eastern city limits and Sault Ste. Marie.

Only Goodale's Regina seat is safe, if he runs again.

Opponents and critics liked to mock the relationship, calling Gerald Prime Minister Butts, and suggesting he was the marionette pulling the strings of the empty-headed puppet in the big job. Whatever the truth of their relationship, it has worked pretty well. When they started on this project, Trudeau was the third party critic for amateur sport. He now has a worldwide brand. Everybody knows Butts was a key part of that process, the result of many years of planning and plot hatching. Now he is gone, and he will leave a huge hole.

Just for reference, when it comes to corruption, Quebec is our New Jersey, Chicago and D.C. all rolled into one.
What the former attorney general described tonight is a sickeningly smug protection racket whose participants must have been astonished when she refused to play along.

Israel, Canada, the UK and the United States aren't doing any wonders for the reputation of small-d "democratic" societies in the last couple of years. Thailand looks better and better every day.
In a very Canadian way, Wilson-Raybauld's testimony was as disturbing as Cohen's.
The things that we feared were true in or government are true. She is a national hero, and a rare politician who (it seemed at the time) sacrificed her career for the sake of what is right, moral and proper.

Can you guys in America watch CBC's The National? or is it not available?
CBC and CTV are not available on my cable system in California. I assume that is the case in most of the US. I know people get Canadian stations in some cities near the border. When I used to go to Ann Arbor for business, I would watch hockey on Canadian stations.

Philpott, the MP for Markham-Stouffville, said she has been considering the events that have shaken the federal government in recent weeks and, after "serious reflection," concluded she must quit.
She said the constitutional convention of cabinet solidarity means ministers are expected to defend all cabinet decisions and other ministers publicly, and must speak in support of the government and its policies.
"Given this convention and the current circumstances, it is untenable for me to continue to serve as a cabinet minister," she wrote.

Several good sources tell me that Trudeau will soon pull the trigger on an early May election. It makes a lot of sense. He cannot have this story follow him for the next six months. So after his party tables a good news budget, he will tell Canadians that he did the right thing by asking Jody Wilson-Raybould, the Minister of Justice and Attorney General at the time, to intervene in an ongoing criminal prosecution case against SNC Lavalin. He wanted to save jobs and if the opposition has a problem with that he will let the people decide.
I could be voting in TWO May elections.

Trouble with that strategy is that there's no way Bernier's party is organized enough to run a decent campaign - therefore no siphoning votes from the Conservatives.

I'm just curious to see how much they can fuck this up. Going to be an interesting month.
Hate to say it - and I know that Alberta has changed a lot over the years - but this picture from Notley's announcement is like catnip when it comes to firing up the old-school Albertans.

I don't know why that staging is necessary.
For one thing, they're fucking kids.
That's the way it's done now - human props behind a politician whenever an announcement is made.
But those are two Sikh kids in front of a woman in what appears to be a hijab. I can hear the comments being made in homes across Alberta (outside of Calgary and perhaps Edmonton...)

More troubling is the fact that all of a sudden there have been two revelations about Wilson-Raybauld that, while not very damaging at all, point clearly to an orchestrated smear campaign from on high.
But like much that Trudeau's handlers have tried to do lately, these efforts have failed.
