Las Vegas Sands/MSG/Dolan group to build 18,500-seat arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
Likely future home of an NBA expansion team or relocation from New Orleans (or some other dark horse city).
Las Vegas is already the only city in the world with four 12K+ arenas within three miles of each other, so this will just make five I guess.

If you count outdoor stadiums Atlanta definitely has at least four within three miles not including the new braves stadium or Georgia tech basketball.brian wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:06 pm Las Vegas Sands/MSG/Dolan group to build 18,500-seat arena on the Las Vegas Strip.

Yeah, there's also a project to build a 17,000-seat arena on the north Strip (next to SLS, the former Sahara), but that one has sketchy financing though I keep hearing from people who know things that it's a lot more solid than the public perception.Baloney wrote: Thu Apr 25, 2019 11:34 amThis is the Sphere right?brian wrote: Fri Jan 26, 2018 12:06 pm Las Vegas Sands/MSG/Dolan group to build 18,500-seat arena on the Las Vegas Strip.

(Hamilton) County officials are about to spend a lot of your money. They don't want to talk about it.
The (Cincinnati) Enquirer knows this because it asked to see county emails and related documents connected to the negotiations in October and November, in hopes of better understanding the costs and benefits to taxpayers.
Six months after the request was filed, county officials sent back 275 pages that had been almost completely blacked out. Every word, other than the date, subject line and names of email recipients, was gone. No noun or verb remained. No punctuation mark survived.

If you ever get the chance, check out a game at Ripken Field in Aberdeen, MD. The Ironbirds play there (short season A, NY Penn league). The org I work for hosted a lot of families there yesterday and it really is a great park. I got a chance to see Adley Rutschman play (first overall pick this year). He went 2-4 and threw out two base stealers.

What a shit airline.

Re: Stadium/arena/ballpark general thread
Yup. But they're based in Las Vegas and most of their business is flying to and from Vegas, so I suppose it makes some sense, especially for a team that is counting on "home" fans flying from northern and southern California to attend "home" games.

Re: Stadium/arena/ballpark general thread
I fly it once or twice a year to either Des Moines or Asheville (just returned), because it's the only direct option from the area (PIE). While it doesn't scare me as much as it once did, with all of the delayed and cancelled flights for airplane malfunctions, it is essentially Grayhound of the skies. I think only AirTransat has been a worse experience.brian wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 11:50 amYup. That being said, it is pretty damn cheap.

Re: Stadium/arena/ballpark general thread
Saw in ENR the other week that the projected cost is now $1.9b
Re: Stadium/arena/ballpark general thread
That's pretty much been the cost since it broke ground. The Raiders wanted to add some amenities that added about $75M to the cost, so it went from $1.8B to $1.9B. $750M paid for by the taxpayers of Clark County.Baloney wrote: Mon Aug 05, 2019 12:16 pm Saw in ENR the other week that the projected cost is now $1.9b

As of last month, the Marlins were averaging 9,533 fans and the Las Vegas Aviators were averaging 9,396.
Re: Stadium/arena/ballpark general thread
It's a beautiful minor league park. Has just about any amenity you could want and it's really not uncomfortable despite the 100+ degree heat. The seats have venting and there's good airflow throughout the stadium. The concessions are 10 times better than T-Mobile or any other arena in Las Vegas.

Washington U's field renamed to reflect Olympic legacy.
It becomes the only stadium in the United States approved by the IOC to include "Olympic" in the name.

In theory it's possible. I always thought the University of Utah should have renamed their stadium Rice-Eccles (sp?) Olympic Stadium.Steve of phpBB wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2019 12:57 pmHuh. Plus, as cool as that would be for me, there are plenty of other stadia in the US that have hosted the Olympics. I don't know why Rice-Eccles would deserve it more than the LA Coliseum or Turner Field / Georgia State Stadium.

The LA Coliseum does have Olympic Rings at the entrace, although I don't know about Turner Field/Georgia State.

Rice-Eccles doesn't have rings prominently shown, but they have the cauldron from 2002 out front, plus a museum that has the rings on the sign for it.

I'm pretty sure they were headless when they were made for the '84 games. There was some controversy about it at the time.

That looks pretty opulent for Fort Worth! TCU is the only thing going on there, so this is a bit surprising.

Not true. Ft Worth has some well-renowned museums along with the popular Van Cliburn competition. I’m not a fan of Dallas at all, but just commented last weekend driving through it that I wouldn’t mind living there. Of course I’m also white and wouldn’t be shot through my window. But that could happen anywhere.sancarlos wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2019 1:12 pm That looks pretty opulent for Fort Worth! TCU is the only thing going on there, so this is a bit surprising.

Re: Stadium/arena/ballpark general thread
I should have clarified. I meant that I believe Fort Worth has little besides TCU going on that would take place in a sports arena, such as the one they just built.Giff wrote: Wed Oct 30, 2019 5:17 pmNot true.
