Rapinoe is bugging me this tournament. She doesn't have the legs to just run by ppl and I think she holds onto the ball too much in final 3rd. Morgan needs to see the ball more, quite frankly.

I’m getting shades of Buster Douglas, all the way down to the favorite’s suspect defense.

On the positive side, Ertz is owning the middle of the park.

Good thing I don't have any BTC anymore, (and I'm starting to agree with you).

Yeah, I've been a fan since she busted onto the scene in 2011 WC and London Olympics the next year. She reminds me of the Hamm generation of women that played against a lot of inferior teams/talent and at times had trouble adjusting when things got a little tougher. Especially as they aged.A_B wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:25 pmShe's a disaster at the moment.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:23 pmI love Rapinoe, but I tend to agree with you. That's a pretty great point. This generation -- in theory -- should be better tested for these close matches, but you wonder sometimes.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:34 pmYeah, I've been a fan since she busted onto the scene in 2011 WC and London Olympics the next year. You'll be able to tell which of the US media covering the team are dopes though based on who they pick as the player of the match. It's Ertz and it shouldn't even be close.

Yeah, but even on that shot, why is she hitting that with the outside of the boot, she in-swings that ball and it's probably side net/far post.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:37 pm...and nearly just got a hattrick.A_B wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:25 pmShe's a disaster at the moment.govmentchedda wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 12:23 pmI love Rapinoe, but I tend to agree with you. Tell ya what I DO like... They aren't fucking with extra time in this tournament. Routinely seeing it up past 5 minutes.

Re: Women's World Cup 2019
Pressuring on offense like Spain did early in the game has helped them since the PK as well since they're not all of the sudden having to figure how to attack the US. They still look dangerous.

Good Win. Broke the string of 4 European wins in a row. Hope Canada, China and Japan can follow suit.

Spain is a tough squad. Over the last 2 cycles, they've gone from a pretty shitty side to one now that can absolutely hang with any team in the tournament.
US had really played one game of any true talent test, and that game had zero stakes. (They looked darn good, without any real pressure involved.)
Now they've got 4 full days to rest up and get ready for France, who had a VERY tough game yesterday against the Aussies.

I think you can say this about many European teams. 12 Years ago Outside of Germany, Sweden and Norway, the European teams were shit.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 1:07 pm Spain is a tough squad. But since then, England, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands have invested in the women's game and it shows. They have surpassed Asian teams by leaps and bounds. The surprise for me is Russia. Russian women seem to excel in everything but the funding for football is lacking.
You'd think the South American teams would be better but when I talk to South Americans, they say women are shamed for playing football so they'll never improve.

True on all fronts. Africa had the same issue as S.A., but seem to be having some recent success in moving things forward culturally.

The only other comment I'll make is that I'm just not sure about Jill Ellis.
Morgan was not herself today and she was getting hacked to shit when she touched the ball. I don't understand keeping her out there until the 85th minute. Just in general, you have all of this talent sitting on your bench, it was a brutal day... Bring on Lloyd or Press earlier and kill the game off.
They really didn't do shit on offense, in terms of shots on goal. They owned the game possession, just a lot of not so great balls from distance that didn't even hit the frame.

Re: Women's World Cup 2019
Why would she bring in Horan at that point? Picking up a 2nd yellow is in issue if she has to make a bad tackle to shut something down. Morgan and Rapinoe should have been subbed out around 60min in. Dunn played better in the second half, but Spain was all over her and Rapinoe in the first. They won in spite of Ellis. It looked like she made a game plan days ago and never adjusted. The US slipped through on a weak penalty.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 2:14 pm The only other comment I'll make is that I'm just not sure about Jill Ellis.
