So 50 out of about 300 or so reporters even just showing up to a Happy Hour is proof of what?

That there are 50 shit people out there who treat their reporting job as sport rather than the literal life or death (just not their own)?
Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part III - A Democratic House
Sure, but that's a small portion of the people working in the press corps. I don't know what the makeup of the crowd was, but if it was like 50 people from mostly foreign news outlets and right-wing leaning media like Fox News, then so what?mister d wrote: Tue Jun 25, 2019 6:10 pm That there are 50 shit people out there who treat their reporting job as sport rather than the literal life or death (just not their own)?

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part III - A Democratic House
You're extrapolating ... the two tweets I put up condemn either two or three reporters. If you want to call it 50 out of 300, I'll add the others in myself. If 250 sat it out, great.
Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part III - A Democratic House
I guess I’m just trying to be careful not to condemn a group of people based on actions of 15 percent of it. I’m not saying that’s what you’re doing but that was what I got from one of the previous posts.

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part III - A Democratic House
To be fair, I would condemn the majority of political reporters as abdicating their responsibilities here or atleast not going nearly far enough.

A few of the reporters mentioned were definitely not A-listers - any chance to network is something they probably feel they have to do.
Morally, pretty hard to accept, but professionally, kind of understandable.

You can excuse almost any action if you put morality and career concerns on an equal plane.

There’s several ways to appreciate how or why journalists are OK with tongue lashing Sarah Sanders. I mean, at the end of the day, I guess a good man will ultimately suck dick for crack, right?
So anyway, here’s why I get irate when journalists do not do their job:
cuz when somebody does it, it shows just how vacuous and irresponsible so much of it has become.
If that thread doesn’t upset you, then maybe the problem’s worse than we thought.

I saw that last night and totally agree, but also be prepared for a pretty horrific image in the thread.

The first one or the second? Because both are horrifying.mister d wrote: Wed Jun 26, 2019 10:04 am I saw that last night and totally agree, but also be prepared for a pretty horrific image in the thread.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Tied with Mel Ott at Number 25 is Miguel Cabrera at 511.

The image of the dead Syrian child led to Canada throwing the gates very widely open for Syrian refugees.
I will not be holding my breath to see a similar result in this case.
And your point about journalists is spot on. We've seen through the disgrace that is the Correspondents' Dinner that so, so many of these people want to cozy up to power rather than speak truth to it.

At some point we’re going to stop sarcastically saying Pelosi would rather fight her own party than the other one.

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part III - A Democratic House
Any thoughts on the Kim meeting? Maybe just a show maybe more style than substance but this N. Korea thing has moved a lot in the past two years. If you're gonna slam him might as well give some praise if it's due. Can't quite figure it out really but seems like progress to me. Mostly between the Koreas but that and China has to be 80% of the issue. Either way I take this over nuclear war every day.

Trump wants to be the influencer of North Korea not China.
To deal with China, slowly we are taking things away from them and that bubble will burst. Expect China to implode.

Fuck that. North Korea is the most oppressive regime on the planet, and Kim Jong Un is a murderous dictator, and Trump is fluffing him up and giving him credibility on the world stage.HaulCitgo wrote: Sun Jun 30, 2019 9:48 am Any thoughts on the Kim meeting? Trump has made concessions to NK....and they haven't done anything. He's been played (again) on the world stage.

I think most people realize being the CIC means you have to accept the idea that sometimes people, be they militant or civilians, get hurt in international conflict. I'd say most every President has that particular blood on their hands.

Agree all around, but the problem is in the context Tucker said it seemed like he was kind of reveling in it. It's an awesome power and honestly makes the argument that Trump is unqualified to be president even sharper. Seems like a talking point the right-wing turds would want to stay away from.

Re: Trump Admin Meltdown Thread Part III - A Democratic House
The question wasn't about Trump, it was about the blood on Kim's hands. There is a difference between the decisions made by world leaders to go to war, or balance lives lost in one country versus another, and arguable the cruelest regime in history, that has enslaved their population for 70 years, keeps 12% of its population is concentration camps, gives life sentences to 3 generations of a family for very minor crimes, and publicly murders family members, generals and everybody who doesn't carry their water. I think the worst part of Tucker's comments was his making fun of the "Samantha Power dorm room approach of 'oh, they are so mean...'"A_B wrote: Mon Jul 01, 2019 9:37 am I think most people realize being the CIC means you have to accept the idea that sometimes people, be they militant or civilians, get hurt in international conflict.
