NBA 2013

Post by Pruitt »

Tipoff is tomorrow night, and my fantasy draft was last night.

It's a great time to anticipate a full season of exciting basketball, and the anticipation will last until midway through the first quarter of the first Raptor game on Wednesday night. But for now, I'm going to enjoy the fact that the Toronto Raptors are currently tied for first in the Eastern Conference!

Bulls -at- Heats on TNT right now, just starting; followed by Los Angeles -at- Los Angeles. Not a bad doubleheader, right there.

Oh, and if you haven't checked it lately, and nobody will blame you if you have not, nba.com has been slightly cleaned up so it's not quite the trainwreck it was last season. ETA: although if you block Facedouche, the individual "game tracker" pages on the NBA site display a giant 404 File Not Found rendering the entire page unreadable. Solid programming there!

Michael Carter-Williams, for one night, made it look like the Sixers aren't tanking. 22 points (four threes), 12 assists, nine steals, and seven boards in a win over the Heat. Of course, the Sixers blew a 23-4 start to the game and had to come back for the win.

Why don't they just have derek rose and melo anthony play 1 on 1? Let the other eight guys relax. It would be a whole lot less bother.

Thibodeau doesn't spend all that time grinding his guys into dust teaching defense to have them relax. And he's responsible for Doc Rivers' rep.

The Washington Wizards with more than four letters in their name (Wall, Nene) are not good at basketball. Trevor Ariza? Really? Blew a lead in the fourth, losing to the Sixers. Carter-Brown looked human. Nene was benched with an injury. And, the Wiz have a player named Glen Rice--what are the odds?

(I know. He got kicked off his college team, right? Right.)

She's quite easy on the eyes. The big complaint with last year's crew was Wilbon and Magic's lack of preparation. I thought Collins offered a lot of insight, and Steele did a very good job steering the ship. My one complaint was that there was a little bit of two people talking at the same time.

Andre Iguodala has started the season slow with the dubs. 8.7ppg, only 20 shots taken in three games. Until tonight. 9-15 from the floor, 6-9 from the arc. 27 points. And that is just the first half, in Philly.

This team plays hard defense. I like that.

As of 2:00 remaining in the third, you've got 30 points to spare.

Indeed it is. He gets a ton of playing time since Nash only plays about 25-30 minutes per game, and Nash never plays on B2B games.

Is there a dumber backcourt than JR Smith and Iman Shumpert? Combined basketball IQ of about six.

I'm trying to play it cool, but he's been on fire. A lot of UK players are doing well, which has led me to pay much more attention to the NBA than ever before. I usually check boxscores every morning. Was pretty cool the other day when ESPN had Cousins, Jones and Wall as their top three performers for the day.

And Anthony Davis is gonna be a top-5 guy sooner rather than later.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Raptors blow 27 point lead - outscored 42-15 in the 4th.

6-11, losers of four in a row...

And there are 8 teams worse than them. While last night's implosion aided the cause, they'd better pull down their socks if Andrew Wiggins is going to be repatriated.

James Harden is a horrific defensive player. I typically watch at least 75 Rockets games a year, every year and I've never been more pissed off after losses than I have this week. Not giving any effort is the #1 basketball sin, IMO.

I love him (he's probably my favorite current NBA player) but his defensive indifferences have been enough for like 3 Deadspin compilation reels.

Five Xmas day games, and not a post? Well, apparently they did suck. I only tuned into the Ws-Clips, which is sloppy, chippy but entertaining.

I am digging this Warriors team more and more. They play hard, they stay poised, great help D on Chris Paul tonight, Curry is ice cold but they lead late. Harrison Barnes is growing before our eyes; he is gonna be nice once he is a full-grown man. Paul continues to be my favorite player not the son of an NBA player (no, not Kobe Bean).

The truly amazing thing is that they've gone 5-4 since then and are in first place (!) and the #4 seed in the East. Sheesh. We can now start asking "Is the 2013-14 NBA Atlantic Division the worst division in sporting history?" It has to be in the conversation.

I can't remember the last time I enjoyed a Raptors game as much as last night's easy defeat of the sad sack Knicks. (Twice in two nights). Since Rudy Gay was traded, the team has begun to pass the ball and run, and at least against a horrible team like the Knicks, it was fun to watch.
