Soccer Decision of the Day
My daughter's academy is sending out a Decision of the Day, in which they have to submit a paragraph explaining what decision they would make in a scenario. Thought this might be fun to do here:
You are Player A. Please explain what decision you make and why. Notice all details in order to make your decision. Be Specific!

While the coach said there are no wrong answers, I'm going to have to mark this one wrong.

Take it in another yard and try to pop it back to the spot to hit C. B is on his heels so sending it across the goalmouth is a waste, and D is the second option but the angle sucks.
In case there was any doubt, I was a goalie and ever really played competitive SOCCAH.

Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
1. Take the ball to the goal line and turn the corner.
2. Pull back to let that one defender who is charging back to go by you.
3. As the other defenders shift towards you, pass it to C, who should be moving toward the goal and who will be open.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

That's what I was thinking as well. I might have room for one more touch, but more likely, I'm just waiting a fraction for the charging defender to get a little closer before dropping it to C who might even have time for one touch before shooting.
Totally Kafkaesque

It looks like C has B and two defenders (not including the charging one) between him and the goal. I think you need something to draw them away.

Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
But the two defenders closest to A will be running away from C. Assume that one of the defenders near B will move at C, could then be either a fairly clear shot (would need to be quick), a chance to pass it to B or a lay off to D.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 6:52 am It looks like C has B and two defenders (not including the charging one) between him and the goal. Drive forward and then cut a pass back to C. Tell B to get real and D to fuck off.

Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
My daughter was tying herself in knots over thinking this one, so she took a creative way to cheat out of answering. She said her team was up by one in injury time, so she would cut the ball back, dribble to the corner to waste time and kick it out off a defender. I love her creativity and understanding of the game, but I do think it was inspired out of finding an easy way out of answering.

Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
I initially skipped the first one because its kind of lame, but here it is:
Decision of the day.
From this position, 1-0 behind with 5 minutes left to play, do you......
1) Take the shot
2) Dribble the ball and try to beat defender for better angle to shoot
3) Pass the ball to team-mate
Let us know which action you would take and why! No wrong answers.

Dribble to the byline and dive for a penalty.

Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
Pass the ball to the teammate and watch him or her shoot it right at the goalie's bread basket or sky it over the bar.

You gotta draw the defender a bit by faking that you're gonna shoot and then lay it off for the bunny.

This was my daughter's answer, pretend to shoot show the defender turns her back (10 year old girls), then pass to your teammate because they have a better position to shoot.

Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
Goalie is leaving the top near post open, and defender isn't blocking that lane. A good goalie should never get beat near post, but again, 10 year old girls, so I agree.

shoot the hostage
Re: Soccer Decision of the Day
Pass to my teammate while making predetermined eye contact that says "one touch it right back", and with the defender and goalie now both leaning, I fucking blast it into the top left corner. 2-0.

Rules quiz from The Athletic
In April 1999, UEFA’s general secretary Gerhard Aigner suggested that players should take a refereeing test before they signed a professional contract to encourage greater understanding between officials and footballers.
The idea was embraced by the Premier League’s referees’ officer Philip Don, who said that it was time to resurrect an old scheme whereby academy players at top English clubs would have to sit a test on the laws of the game.
Neither scheme came to pass, but as part of our Rebooted series The Athletic has set 20 questions on the laws of the modern game. Take our test to see how you would fare as a referee. At the very least, it may help you to understand what they’re going through on the pitch.
1.) A full-back passes to a team-mate, inside her own box, who falls over. An opposition striker races towards the loose ball, but the goalkeeper gets there first and picks it up. Should the referee give an indirect free kick for a backpass?
2.) Since last summer, a drop-ball is dropped exclusively to one player. How far away from the dropped ball must all other players be?
3.) What is the fewest number of players with which a team is allowed to compete?
4.) A manager decides to substitute his striker, who refuses to leave the pitch. What action does the referee take?
5.) Which cards can a referee show to a player before the start of a match?
6.) A defender kicks the ball back to his keeper, who tries to clear the ball but skies it. As the ball drops, an opposing forward is about to head into the net, but the keeper jumps and catches the ball. What decision does the referee take?
7.) A winger is fouled in the box, a penalty is awarded. The defender who committed the foul isn't booked. The winger, the regular penalty taker, is injured, has treatment, but is then fit to continue. Where's he allowed to be for the penalty?
8.) An attacking side has a direct free kick 25 yards out. The defending side sets up a two-man wall, and an attacking player stands directly alongside them. The free-kick is fired straight into the net. What does the referee give?
9.) A defender wants to pass back to his keeper to allow him to handle the ball. So, rather than kicking the ball to him, he flicks the ball up, heads it back. The keeper controls with his feet not hands. What action should the referee take
10.) An attacking team is awarded an indirect free kick. The free-kick is crossed into the box, misses everyone and ends up in the net. What is the outcome?
11.) A defender near their goalline quickly steps back off the pitch, in the hope that they no longer play an attacker onside. What should the referee do?
12.) After winning a penalty, a team's designated taker picks up the ball, places it on the spot and lines up to take it. But on the whistle a team-mate, lurking on the edge of the box, runs forward and scores. What happens?
13.) Which of these four scenarios, in each of which the ball hits a player’s hand, should normally be given as a handball?
a. When the player puts their hands in front of their face to protect themselves
b. When the ball boucnes off a plyaer’s head straight to their hands
c. When the player falls over, sticks out a hand to break their fall, and touches the ball
d. When a nearby opponent kicks the ball straight onto their hand
14.) Which of these four pitches would be eligible for an international match to be played
a. 105mx60m
b. 100mx65m
c. 115mx75m
d. 110x80m
15.) If a throw-in flies over everyone, past the thrower's own goalkeeper, and into their own net, what happens next?
16.) Before a penalty shootout, a team finalises their order of kickers. But after missing their first kick, the captain has a change of heart, and brings themselves forward to take the second kick. What happens?
17.) Which of these four situations does a referee not need to whistle for?
a. Direct free kick
b. Indirect free kick
c. Goal kick
d. Corner kick
18.) Which of the following criteria should the referee not take into account when deciding whether a foul denied a "clear goalscoring opportunity"?
a. Distance between offfence and the goal
b. Likelihood of keeping or gaining control of the ball
c. Likelihood of attacker scoring from their shot
d. Location and number of defenders
19.) A VAR decision is so bad that one furious player runs over to the Referee Review Area (RRA), while another goes down the tunnel and into the Video Operation Room (VOR) to vent his frustration. What happens next?
20.) With an opposition winger racing down the touchline, a coach of the opposition team kicks his water bottle at the winger, knocking them off their stride. What does the referee do?

I don't like the fact that the rule bails out a goalkeeper when they screw up on a backpass.
