Dammit.
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Someone, maybe multiple people, made the joke 3 or 4 weeks ago that shows like Diners, Drive-in’s and Dives would become like porn under lock down. I think I’ve just about reached that point this weekend.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Yeah I never crossed the he sucks line so never had to walk it back. Seems real, and the handful of restaurants around here that both he and I have been to I really like. Though I’ve walked past his Times Square-ish location numerous times and never gone in.

Oh no his restaurants are probably not great but the shit he does for small businesses is off the charts. He’s a good dude. And has been doing a lot during the pandemic as well.
He is not an elite chef but he uses his platform amazingly well.

I remember a story about a fight with his friend/stylist that someone overheard. Unless there was more than that “severe” sounds overmuch.

He also reportedly would do a lot of leering below the neck of female chefs during tapings.

I feel like this is an argument we have here every year or so. I'm pro-Fieri. He does a lot of good with his celebrity.

Getting Tipsy at Home in Your Underwear
The Finns have a tradition of getting drunk at home in their underwear. It’s so commonplace there is a word for it, “kalsarikännit,” as well as two emojis: a man in gray underwear with pint of beer, and a woman in a polka-dot slip with a glass of red wine.
In English, the rough translation is “pantsdrunk.” And if there was ever a time for pantsdrunk to become a trend in America, it’s probably now, when people are self-isolating at home.
“I don’t always drink in my underwear, but when I do, I tell everyone it’s a Finnish tradition,” said Miles Teller, the 33-year old actor, on Twitter on March 19.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
Next door neighbors had a family gathering today, and it just felt really wrong. I'm not quite sure how many people live in their house, there are always a lot of cars in the driveway, and I've seen several adult children that seem to live there. Today there was the owner, and I'd say 4 or five adult couples and 3 or 4 kids. Grilling in the backyard, playing soccer, then skateboarding in the street. My wife was ready to call the cops, and mentioned it to the police office (in a different town) that lives on the other side of our house. He was annoyed, called them idiots, but didn't stop playing basketball in his driveway.

Finished a bottle of rye yesterday, but luckily, there's more. Almost out of tequila, which could be a problem, as we have been making a bastardized easy version of margaritas lately (two shots tequila, one shot of grand marnier or whatever orange liqueur is handy, and fill rest of glass with lemonade and ice.)

Drove into Brooklyn yesterday because Other Half is no-contact doing curbside, which would be wonderful if it were all the time given how impossible it is to find parking there.

Little Fish Brewery in Athens, Ohio has a baltic porter called Kalsarikannit, and it is a fantastic brew. Never knew the name's meaning until I read this. Thanks!DaveInSeattle wrote: ↑Sun Apr 05, 2020 1:06 pm The Finns are onto something...

Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
As I'm sure some of you saw on Fb, my neighbor friends rolled by my yard to celebrate my 50th on Saturday. Was very touched by that. Afterwards, the family across the street, and two other couples got into a couple of wide circles and we had a happy hour. It was great to see everyone, but it also felt right up to the line of responsibility. We had sanitizing wipes out and people were good about stuff, but I couldn't shake a slightly uneasy feeling.
=-=-=-=
Yesterday, out for our evening walk, we're headed down toward the park and we see 10 guys playing basketball. Like, full on setting picks, boxing out, etc etc. We say "hope none of those dudes is from our circle of friends" is out there. Just at that moment, one of the couples from our happy hour comes around the corner, and boom: "Liam, what are you doing!?" Shouts our friend.
Fucking Yikes.
Our college-aged kids have been REALLY good about not hanging with friends. I said to my wife, after the Happy Hour, I love all of them, but I just don't trust their kids to be doing the right thing. To get that validation on our walk was pretty unsettling.
=-=-=-=-=
DC had to take all the rims down last week. At our little park, they had taken down one, left up the other. I guess the thinking was stop full court games. They had locked up the tennis courts. They need to take down the other rim, apparently.

So has anyone taken the plunge yet and tried cutting their own hair (besides those who already shave/buzz it regularly)? Considering it, but not sure how it would turn out.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
I'm trying to figure that out. The top I can let grow forever but the sides I either have to commit to the annoyance or try to clean it up.
Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
Fortunately I got a haircut right before we went on lockdown (so about four weeks ago), so I'm about a week away from "normally" needing one. I'm just going to let it grow though. Fuck it.

This is where I am as well. Pretty sure I'm still on the books for Thursday, but obviously not going. My hair gets very unruly when long, especially in Florida humidity. Back in college, my roommate and I would cut each other's hair. Debating whether to do that again, or see how long I can get it.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
I didn't touch the top for 2 years of college and just had a friend shave underneath, which might be the direction I'm heading now. I assume it'll look sort of like Donovan McNabb's dreads or something.

Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
Yeah, that sounds like the boat I'm in. Once my hair gets past a certain length it just looks ratty and there's no way to really make it look good, especially on the sides.
I have a beard trimmer--would that work for a basic clean-up, or would it be a safer bet to spring for a pair of proper hair clippers?

Re: The OFFICIAL 2020 Self-Quarantine Thread
I had an appointment on 3/13 that I canceled. I pretty much didn't trim the very top of my head from March of last year through the beginning of this year. Kept the sides and back really short. My kids loved it, my wife not so much as the year went on. First time since college my hair had been long enough to really comb it.
Anyway, the main point of all of that is that I knew I had some grey from that experience (and my beard), but the greys on top are nothing compared to what I'm seeing on the sides as it's grown out the last couple of months.
