You can actually kind of see why they need three referees for one match.

This movie has some moments that go under the Tarantino theory on how, if you just listen, "Top Gun" sounds like a male-on-male porno.

I bet every arm wrestling tournament features, like, 17 spontaneous testicle explosions.

Arguably the best actor in the movie tbh.

Why were they doing weigh-ins earlier if body size difference clearly doesn't matter?

Mildly surprised that Bull turned out to be the "you're OK, man" type of villain instead of the "tries to kill you in the parking lot later" kind.

Tubi has provided me with the added bonus of a couple times when the movie jumped back and replayed for a little bit, then moved back forward to where it was supposed to be.
The first time was when the kid ran into freeway traffic, which was interesting.

That final doesn’t work without him. Like the analysis of Charlie Sheen last week.

That's a lot of stunt people to mostly arm wrestle.

Well, there we have it. The quintessential American movie about trucking and arm wrestling.

No jumping around, but a 4th ad break just before showing the truck and final scene. Weak!

What The Grapes of Wrath is to the Dust Bowl, Over The Top is to truck driving arm wrestler movies.

I got a bonus jump around (a couple seconds at the beginning of the final armwrestling match) right before the final credits.

I didn't get a single ad watching through the website.
Re: Swamp Quarantine Movie Night - Over The Top (1987), Thursday, 4/10 9 PM ET
I never did have to see an ad for some reason, though I watched The Big Short on Tubi earlier today on my Amazon Fire and it had like four ad breaks.

I feel bad about this, it was 20-to-1 on Hawk(s), botched it since Hawk(s) put $7K on himself.DSafetyGuy wrote: Thu Apr 09, 2020 9:47 pm Maybe the mafia got to the guy from the Teamsters.
ETA: 70-to-1 on Hawk. It's not completely farfetched that the mob got a lot of money down and had a Teamster take a dive.

Re: Swamp Quarantine Movie Night - Over The Top (1987), Thursday, 4/10 9 PM ET
So, just to try to come to an agreement on using Tubi for the future for this.
I'm inclined to say we not use it (or any other format with random ads) or at least that I am pretty sure I won't use it in the future. I had two ads in the first 30 minutes, then none after, but the stream also glitched (jumped back to an earlier part) four times. The glitches were all short (the longest was maybe five seconds) and the first one seemed more like a bad edit in the actual movie than anything else (during the playing in traffic scene) until it glitched again.
That said, even though I was just a little behind due to the ads for probably only 15 minutes or so before the collective pause, it does take away from the thread when you're not close to being synced with the rest of the group (and I'm a psychopath who actually looks at the second hand on the clock app on my phone so I can start as close to the correct time as possible). Obviously, we're not really synced, but the additional lag time took a little from my experience because I would refresh the thread and see multiple posts about something yet to come. It made the overall experience less enjoyable, which is not to say I was trying to enjoy the movies on its own merits and the "spoilers" in the thread were the problem.
Obviously, everyone is free to use whatever service they choose. I would opt against a stream with ads in the future, if at all possible.

Seemed too indulgent to start a new thread and too hilarious to deny the existence of this one so I have to report that starting next week I’m going to truck driving school to get my CDL A license and start a new career as an OTR trucker. (Think Lincoln Hawk minus the arm wrestling and snot-nosed brat of a kid.)
I’m fucking done with office life. I have no significant other or kids, I love to drive and I hate other people. So this is hopefully the perfect job. Wish me well.

My father in law was a trucker and I don’t remember hearing a complaint.

This might literally be the kindest thing you’ve posted towards me and it’s appreciated. Yeah it’s out of left field but I also had family members (two of my moms cousins) who loved it. I expect it’s not for everyone but most complaints seem to revolve around time away from home and I pretty much literally don’t have a home at this point so….mister d wrote: Fri Jul 28, 2023 7:16 pm My father in law was a trucker and I don’t remember hearing a complaint.

This sounds a bit like my very brief foray (after 35 years in an office) into the world of mail delivery.
Seriously though, I worked for transportation companies most of my adult life, and I can tell you that long haul truck driving is a hard life. And, make sure they only expect you to drive - you don’t want to have to also be humping freight on a loading dock.
