My wife has to follow up with close secondary contacts on the positive cases she handles. One of them today was a NYPD officer. Normal protocol would have him self quarantine. Since he’s asymptomatic he said that there was no way he would be permitted to miss time.
Ooh. We needed a test case for swamp debates.
(I feel bad about it, yeah)
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Debate? Fuck, I don't see what should be up for debate. If he has a positive diagnosis, he should be at home in quarantine. Period.

Yeah it was a bad joke about being asymptomatic.

This place darkens the skies on Peachtree. If this is only 3 floors they should get the rest open too. You could ship in people for a while.
"Piedmont Atlanta Hospital’s new Marcus Tower will open four months early — on April 13 — to help treat the surge of coronavirus patients expected this month, the hospital announced Tuesday.
The early opening will add three ICU and acute nursing units to Atlanta’s capacity. This will add a total of 132 additional beds, with 64 designated as critically-needed ICU beds. The hospital beds could be used for coronavirus patients and also patients who need health care for other illnesses, Piedmont said. The new beds will be spread over the tower’s sixth, seventh and eighth floors.“By opening this part of the tower early, we are increasing capacity at a critical time when our community needs it the most,” said Dr. Patrick Battey, CEO of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital. “Getting these beds ready for patients who may need them during the COVID-19 outbreak was the right thing to do, and I am proud of the staff at Piedmont and our partners on the project who made it happen.”The 16-story tower was originally set to open Aug. 1. The healthcare system accelerated the work schedule and deliveries of equipment to make it possible to open early."

Shouldn't have underestimated how much pull Johnnie has with the top brass.
And across services at that!
I just read about this. Fuck yes. Fuck that cunt.
This mother fucker flew TO GUAM from DC to say horrible things about a beloved commander that he just fired unjustly days before to his crew that gave him a goosebump enducing send off. The level of petty that takes is beyond the fucking pale.
See ya, fucko.

Actually, I give him some credit for flying to Guam to address the crew directly. He didn't have to do that, and surely he had some idea of how they felt about the decision. Trump never would have done that in person.

He did it with malicious intent. Not to smooth things over.
Hard disagree.

This thread is my next fear. I feel like I'm going crazy and the temptation to get out a visit people is getting stronger and stronger. This is where we need a strong leader to convince us to hang in there and stay in a bit longer. Instead the opposite view is getting louder.

Yeah, I'm seeing some growing pushback on social distancing based on the downward reductions of the estimated national death rate. But if you look at the current death rate in NYC (~600 deaths/1 million people and growing)* and scaled that up nationally, we'd be talking at least hundreds of thousands of deaths nationwide. And that's with NYC having been subject to restrictions for weeks now.
I'm often in a position of watching a show for a bit to see if my wife would like it. I got about 7 minutes in and stopped. We watched together last night and just like that... New couple show!!

*The death rate New Orleans is even worse.
Just think about the likelihood of someone who was sick in a place like NYC, but could not get a test and returned to their apartment where they live alone. They quarantined by themselves and things got worse. And now?
“The running, the jumping... a celebration of life.”
One symptom that the majority of the people my wife has talked to has reported (including one or the guys this morning) no matter how severely ill they have been, is a loss of their sense of taste.

The city where my wife works for the health department will go over 100 total cases this weekend, if not by tomorrow.
