I liked the Simpsons commercial for Disney Streaming
Re: Commercials
Thanks to Heineken and/or NBCSN I’ve got my first holiday commercial of the season that I’m sick of and don’t want to see/hear again. Heartwarming!
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.

Progressive insurance greatly overestimated Baker Mayfield's national popularity

Re: Commercials
True but they are based out of Cleveland (mayfield heights even!) so it makes sense anyways.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

Someone needs to make t-shirts with the logo (state and slogan) on them. Lots of money to be made.

So that "I'm on METH" campaign is pretty much going exactly as planned?

Re: Commercials
I'm trying like hell to think of any justification for that slogan.

Re: Commercials
The only thing I can think of is that they tried a "it's actually the opposite of what it sounds like, which makes it edgy" approach but it obviously didn't work.

Re: Commercials
It brought outsized attention to the issue and isn't going to cause anyone to actually try Meth. So great work?

Re: Commercials
In the article Pruitt linked, the SD governor doubled down and said that all the mockery meant the ad campaign is a big success because it has gained so much awareness. Then, I love that the article's rejoinder was somebody saying, "When they are running you out of town, you should grab a baton and pretend you are leading the parade!"

Re: Commercials
At first I thought they were trying to establish the fact that everyone faces the consequences of a widespread meth problem. Then I started to think that maybe it was a call to arms of sort. A rallying cry for all good South Dakotans to do their part to fix the problem.
Makes sense? Maybe?
At least "This is your brain on drugs" had an easy to discern P.O.V.

Re: Commercials
I just saw the Peloton ad where the wife/mom posts everything on social media. Even with the sound off that ad can go right to hell.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Number 45 is Paul Konerko with 439.

Just got my 3500$ exercise bike and I look to be in pretty good shape already but I'm SUPER SCARED to ride it in the privacy of my own home while constantly updating you all about it. Wish me luck!

Peleton still pretends the world is only beautifully fit people.
Bowflex has been running ads where bigger people are using their machines. I actually own an M5. That fucker is humbling. 14 minute workout my ass.
100% this. My wife saw that commercial a few weeks ago and the first thing out of her mouth was “Oh shut the fuck up.”

Opening 2 lines of the Tal Bachman song running with the Peloton ad
She's blood, flesh and bone
No tucks or silicone
Let's hear it for real breasts.

Re: Commercials
Stock went down 10%. That’s definitely a bad ad. Smacks of 75 year old Peggy Olson.
I think they may really have gotten spooked by that Clue Haywood takedown a few months ago and are trying to make the brand seem more approachable to the commoners. But they don’t know how. Nordictrack does it by putting one in every crap ass gym and advertising during Judge Judy. Not sure there is much money in that. Why don’t people just buy a bike?

Re: Commercials
We live on a quiet little suburban street where most folks have been here for years. Most everybody knows each other and chats on the street regularly when walking dogs, etc. A couple years ago, one house got demolished and the new one is the biggest house on the street. The family who bought it seem nice enough but nobody really knows them well. The guy is a tech bro who has a Peloton in his garage. Several times each week he rides it, with the garage door open, and the volume of the Peloton "coach" at 11. So, everybody gets to listen, whether they want to or not. Most people on the street don't know his name, so he is commonly referred to as "Peloton Guy".

Actor playing husband in controversial Peloton ad wonders if he’ll suffer from social media backlash
“My 5 seconds of air time created an array of malicious feedback that is all associated with my face,” Sean Hunter told Psychology Today (via Business Insider).
“As my face continues to be screen shot online, I wonder what repercussions will come back to me,” Hunter continued. “I pride myself on being a great teacher and developing actor, and I can only hope that this affects neither. I’m grappling with the negative opinions as none of them have been constructively helpful.”
Hunter went on to ask why people feel the need to create “additional narratives to the story” and wonders what experience the actress portraying the supposedly aggrieved wife in the ad is now dealing with. As of yet, she hasn’t been identified nor spoken publicly about the Peloton commercial.

Re: Commercials
What makes this whole story even more bizarre is that we, the viewing public, get blamed for misinterpreting the commercial.
This isnt a novel.
Write a better commercial.

Re: Commercials
They should re-shoot the commercial with a bad Major League-esque voiceover saying "oh wow, a Peloton, the gift I have been asking for for a very long time" when she sees the present.

I unfollowed Darren Rovell, but I imagine he has a tweet about how much in marketing this kerfuffle has been worth for peloton.

I don't think many were complaining about the husband. I think he brought about the Streisand Effect and made an issue where there wasn't.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Fri Dec 06, 2019 3:37 pm Actor playing husband in controversial Peloton ad wonders if he’ll suffer from social media backlash

Re: Commercials
Had they just had her a.) be genuinely excited to receive it and b.) not look like an emotionally destroyed hostage when talking into her phone the first time she gets on it, the commercial would have a completely different tenor.
