Also being raised Methodist (A PK even!) and more of a naturalist/spiritualist than an atheist, I do miss the Christmas Eve services at Methodist churches. Though about going to the local if we didn't have to head up to Steamboat with the wife's family, wasn't about to go up there though they are all the Bible beater/Duck Dynasty loving crowd.

I do also REALLY enjoy early Christian Plainsong and other chanting.

Naturalism doesn't contradict atheism at all. It does contradict spiritualism though.

As a matter of fact, if you're a naturalist, you are by default an atheist as by definition you don't believe in anything supernatural. It's okay Rush...the self-loathing only lasts a few days. After that it's all rainbows and orgies.

As those of you who watch HIMYM know, Barney is obsessed with playing laser tag, which means playing against 8 year olds. Laser tag seems to be a common birthday party now that my son is 7. My wife took him, and actually went into the arena and loved it. She is about the last person I'd expect to enjoy running around shooting little kids. So the next laser tag party I took my son and joined in. Holy crap was this fun! The place has a second floor platform and all sorts of obstacles to partially hide behind. Seriously, I could play every day and never get bored of it. I just laugh at all the parents who drop their kids off and leave. Afterwards, they give you a report card with a ridiculous amount of facts. A list of every player and how many times you hit them and then hit you (including teammates), it ranks you for every game against teammates and everyone, where you hit people and were hit (left shoulder, right shoulder, gun, back etc...) shooting percentage... The parents get way more into the stats than the kids, but that usually comes out during cake eating, so the kids are preoccupied. I want to hold an adult party there.

This place was big enough that it wasn't an issue. Then again, we didn't play specific games like capture the flag or destroy the other teams base. It was a free for all with team scores. You get 100 points for a tag, lose 25 points when you get tagged. Where laser tag is better than paintball, besides the absence of painful welts, you don't have to leave the arena when hit. Your gun and vest are deactivated for 3 seconds, then you are back in play.

I just spent most of my evening working on a labor law case out of Atlanta. I sat down and read the entire Georgia Dept. of Labor Code, and have to say it was the best written, most logical and easily understandable statute I ever read. after spending 3 hours trying to find a case or secondary source citing a very specific issue I needed to resolve, I see an extremely clear answer in a Code provision. Then I get to the end of the Code, and see the signature line says "Tbilisi." G-d fucking dammit. I should have known the statute was too clear and well written to be drafted by American legislators. I also find it disturbing how much better labor law is in a backwards former Soviet Republic than it is in all US States not named California.

I've played Pathfinder once before. My M:TG/nerd crew would have get togethers and grill/hang out/play games. I filled in for a friend's character and was told I played it better than he did. Naturally he got really mad because nerd rage, but I had fun.

The first round was narrowed by public voting, but the finalists were judge selected.

The later rounds have a panel of judges review each entry. Their recommendations are made available to the public, but the final decision is based on the public voting results.

Had not heard of Pathfinder before. Looked it up and it's a compatible system with D&D's 3.5 rules. I remember hearing about the negative response to the 4th edition of D&D; apparently Pathfinder picked up a large part of the disgruntled fanbase.

I played D&D for a while way back when it was in 2nd edition but haven't touched a tabletop RPG in years.

Any MMO RPG players around here? I tend to play them off and on switching back and forth until I lose interest.

I played WoW for a few years along with Mulligan, who mostly lurks on the Swamp. I still play some RPGs, but mostly offline ones, like Skyrim (which I think is the best game I've ever played). I also played some Diablo III when it came out but stopped when I got sick of the typical Blizzard bullshit.

Back when DTW and I worked together, I played a MUD called Genesis. It's essentially an MMORPG, but it's a text-based game. That game started in something like 1992, is still being played. In some ways, I much preferred Genesis to WoW, especially when it came to interacting with other players.

yup i was in university from 94 to 98 and played MUDs way too much.
I think the only two things I learned in University was how to play pool and to type really really fast so that I wouldn't die.

I played MUDs in that same time period, degen. Hundreds of lost hours... The one I played the most was Aardwolf.

I have played MMO's before, but quit that shit years ago. 1 job is enough... I still play offline rpgs though. I loved Skyrim(to the point that I actually got all the achievements on xbox).

Pathfinder cleaned up a lot of D&D 3.5's problems, but is essentially the same system. I still play every other week. Yup, I'm a nerd.

I'd say the current one is Sophie Turner (Sansa from Game of Thrones) and Google tells me she's 18 on the 21st.

What's sad is that you can almost pick out who it's going to be well ahead of time. Make up and forcing really, really young girls to appear to be much, much older is such a mindfuck. The term 'jailbait' wasn't coined for nothing.

Hoffman had a smallish supporting role in that. Now Owning Mahoney, on the other hand, is Hoffman doing the heavy lifting.
