I'd have to see it again, but the one where he was an NBA ref was surprisingly funny at the time.

This new doc about the college basketball bribery scandal — The Scheme — on HBO is really, really good.

Forget Paris and it had a couple cute scenes, but I remember hating it.

That and When Harry Met Sally are basically the only good Billy Crystal starring vehicles (and Running Scared).

I love it...it was just running on one of the movie networks a couple months ago. I always thought it was an underrated comedy.

Caught the end of this last night for the first time since seeing it in the theater. And yeah holy shit I forgot how batshit the action scenes were.Pruitt wrote: ↑Sun Apr 03, 2016 8:32 pmJust watched it and holy shit!Johnnie wrote:I'm getting around to finally seeing Mad Max: Fury Road.
All I can think is "Damn, the welders and mechanics in post apocalyptic America or wherever are awesome."
I can see why this got a best picture nom, but it's not for the acting.
Up until an hour ago, my favourite action movie of all time was The Road Warrior - this may be the new one.
And that's with the spoilers and inflated expectations. Amazing stuff.
I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: Movies
That movie is on my "can't look away" list. The editing and compositions for the action scenes are masterful. Think I've seen it like 5 times.rass wrote: ↑Tue Apr 07, 2020 10:10 amCaught the end of this last night for the first time since seeing it in the theater. Netflix just added The Florida Project, which is probably in my top five favorite movies of the last decade. Just an incredible movie.

We watched 'JoJo Rabbit' this weekend, and really enjoyed it. And as weird as it to say....Taika Waititi was really great as Hitler.

Giving a guy an award for playing Hitler is still a little too The Producers for Hollywood, even in 2019.

Who knows what the hell is going to happen but I believe this. We’re trying to stay away from “good” movies for Thursdays but this is a movie I would like to talk about with people. For a first film, it’s damn near perfect. I’ll even say when you talk about best first films for critically respected directors, it’s “Citizen Kane” and “Bottle Rocket”

I can tell you right now an exact moment where if you don’t laugh (or at least mirthlessly chuckle) at a gag in Bottle Rocket 12 minutes in that not only will you not like the movie then no Wes Anderson movies are for you.

Re: Movies
My older daughter was in charge of picking a movie on Netflix last night. She selected 'Dinner With Schmucks'...mostly because she love Steve Carrell in The Office.
And...it was surprisingly not bad. Not great, but there were some really funny moments. And the scenes with Carrell and Zach Galifinakis were great.
Oh...and the love interest...played by Stephanie Szostak? Not sure how great of an actress she is, but very cute.

I first noticed Stephanie Szostak when my wife started watching A Million Little Things. She is the only thing worth watching on that show, but she is very easy on the eyes!
I agree the Dinner with Schmucks was better than I expected. Good family movie.

There were a ton of people in that movie where I thought, 'Wow...they got him too?". Beyond Rudd, Carrell, and Galifanakis there was Jemaine Clement, Ron Livingstone, Larry Wilmore (almost unrecognizable without his glasses), Nick Kroll, Randall Park, Octavia Spencer, and Chris O'Dowd.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Mon Apr 27, 2020 9:32 amPaul Rudd is a national treasure. Watched Star Wars episode III. What a flaming pile of shit! My oldest insisted on watching it because it is the only one she hasn't seen yet. I am wishing on her the same fate as Anakin.

I saw Episode 1 in the theater, haven't seen a single Star Wars movie since. It was so bad. A friend lent me Episode 2 on DVD. I stared at it for years, couldn't muster the interest to watch it.

I really didn't like The Lighthouse. Might've been ok if I'd watched it alone, but my wife was so thoroughly not into it that it took me out of the whole thing.

Re: Movies
I kind of feel like this site hasn't given this movie the run it deserves. It's really pretty stunning on a bunch of levels. Yes, as mentioned, the FBI and DOJ (SDNY) come off looking just awful. The Dawkins guy repeatedly told them they weren't approaching the investigation properly (I mean, he didn't realize the reality of the situation, but he certainly gave them enough info that they should've switched gears at some point.)
It's a massive indictment of what a huge fraud the NCAA is at this point. EVERYONE knows what's going on, yet we're still fucking around with amateurism.
I'm at the point where I really have a tough time taking a true rooting interest in Football and Basketball. MI, for the most part*, tries to compete without paying (or allowing that situation to occur, more accurately)... What's the fucking point anymore? They are getting waxed by a rival that is clearly following the SEC model... Beilein quit over this issue, from what I've been told.
Just pay the fucking players already.
* - The Fab 5 era being the clear exception... And that whole thing put the university leadership on such edge they've over compensated to at some points ridiculous levels. As some of you may know, there is a significant faction at UM that have stated they don't need athletics fucking up the reputation of the school and football/basketball will go the way of the dodo if they fuck up again. Not realistic, but there's definitely an anit-AD vibe prevalent in that city and on that campus.

Bodied -- Eninem produced movie about white guy Berkeley English masters student who finds himself in the California battle rap game. 2.5 stars...maybe. Interesting concept but trying to hard.
