Didn't see this one revived yet. Picked up some Sri Lankan today. No idea what I ate, as I got the fish curry combo which comes with veg of the day 1 and veg of the day 2. Outstanding. No joke when the Russian woman in the front of the house warned me that Sri Lankan spicy is a whole other level. When I stood up after eating, I had a total lightheaded euphoric feeling to go with the runny nose and sweats.

The food was less similar to Indian than I expected. There was a small side of dal that was unique to any Indial dal I've tried, and something resembling tabouleh without the tomato or cucumber. Some really cool dishes I'll have to try, like the banana leaf filled with meat curry, dal, plantains, spicy shrimp paste, eggs... then baked together. It looked incredible.

ETA: The place was featured on News 7 New York! It is a tiny place in a tiny strip mall.

I'm about to go make a ham sandwich, since I work from home Sri Lankan is probably unlikely.

That was my lunch Mon-Thur. I only get Indian/Sri Lankan on Fridays, when the office is empty. It's wrong to stink up the office in a cube environment.

I used to work at a place that a woman brought in fish every Thursday and microwaved it.

I'll be very glad when there dining choices on campus again. I take the bus and to get up to the hill (where all the off-campus restaurants are) and back to the office is a bit of a haul.

My go-to every day is a $2.99 6" (actually an 8" grinder that rivals a Subway footlong) sandwich (turkey & swiss with honey mustard, tomatoes, and onions with salt and pepper on wheat) from the commissary with an avocado, a thing of yogurt, and some almonds. That's probably a lot more fat than I should intake, but I don't mind too much. I'll eat that with a water. My snack a couple hours later is a protein shake.

Work sprang for pizza because of the snow. I got the bruschetta, which is basically an arugula, tomato, fresh mozzarella and red onion salad tossed with olive oil, garlic and herbs served cold on plain pizza dough. Very good.

My wife happened to be in the area an hour later, so I met her at a different pizza place and watched her eat what looked like an excellent eggplant parmigiana sandwich and nibbled on her salad.

Have at it.

Had a "Chinese Chicken" salad from a deli here in Milwaukee. Wasn't bad, but the Thai peanut salad dressing that came with it was especially good.

That's funny. The image was blocked at work. They do have an extra spicy, but I figured I'd play it safe the first time and stick with spicy. When she told the chef spicy, I made sure she didn't let on that I was white. I hate going to Chinese restaurants that have separate dishes for Chinese patrons. They never have an English translation, and I usually can't get anyone to translate.

It may be the MSG talking, but Sri Lankan may be my new favorite cuisine. Today's dish was sort of like a stickless shish kebab with green, yellow and red bell peppers, red onion, tomato and Thai chiles slice in half lengthwise with seeds still in. The sauce included chile paste and chile powder. Probably the spiciest dish I have ever eaten, but incredibly flavorful. The Thai Chiles are 30x hotter than a jalapeno. I'm expecting to shoot fire out my asshole tonight.

I fell in love with a Indian place just north of Boston that had the best lamb vindaloo. So friggin' hot I felt like I was hallucinating, yet so craftily put together that I could taste other spices besides the burn.

Love me some lamb vindaloo. When I lived in NYC, there was an Indian place on my walk home from work that made the best vindaloo. The place looked like a total shit hole and my wife was shocked I would eat from there, but damn their food was amazing. Plus, they had a small TV playing Bollywood videos I could enjoy while waiting for my food. Man, those flicks are so cheesy. They look like horrible 70's porn, yet cannot even show kissing. The actresses are insanely hot, too. But I digress. Vindaloo has a laundry list of spices, so the flavor can shine through the heat.

The chicken devilled grill I had today induced the feeling of euphoria and almost out-of-body feeling. It's the best. I don't feel it until I stand up. It's like being hugged by G-d.

Chicken club salad from Jason's Deli. I had to wait 15 minutes to get the damn thing and it tastes bland, even for a salad. Not a lot of healthy choices for lunch in suburban San Antonio.

Jason's Deli is usually good stuff. Their meats are usually pretty solid. Maybe you should have went the turkey or ham route instead.

And I will never understand how New Jerseyites came to call a freaking turkey sandwich a "sloppy jo".

cerrano and I once ran an informal sloppy joe taste test. I think that the Millburn Deli mentioned in that article is one of the places he picked up sandwiches. My favorite ended up being the same place where the sandwich in that picture above came from. In my admittedly limited experience, it's the best mayo-style coleslaw I've ever had.

Interesting. Now that I know the story, I still refuse to ever refer to the sandwich as a sloppy Joe. Unless it is a roll with ground beef in a tomato based sauce, it ain't a sloppy Joe.

Take out Chinese today.

General Tso's Chicken with white rice, and a side order of fried dumplings. The dumplings were more like deep fried, which made them really interesting.

Best thing about Chinese delivery? Literally 10 minutes after hanging up the phone, they're knocking on the door.
