Love the list. And I was super bummed that Different Class wasn't a '96 release. Almost picked it as my album.

Yeah, that's a great playlist.
Totally Kafkaesque

Oh man it was close till this morning. Then a runaway.
I admit my taste is not for everyone. Hope there's more discussion on future matchups, I kinda like getting everyone's thoughts behind their votes

Now that its over ... aside from the weird (but not bad) opener, I have a feeling I'd have Shirley's beating almost anyone.

This one looks super close at first glance.

I actually picked 1st and it might be more clear why I was asking about Spotify vs wiki release year when mine goes up.

Re: Yet Another Dumb Way to Pass Time (Music Related Again)
Okay, I'm back after a week off the grid. A few thoughts/questions ...
1. Somehow I got a bye to the second round, so I assume I can still submit a list?
2. What are you folks using to find out what albums came out in a particular month? Are you using Spotify for that, or something like google, and then using Spotify for the playlist?
3. It figures that I picked a year when I was away in law school and didn't listen to any new music. So this will be a challenge.
4. When you folks talk about how you still buy music from artists you like, how are you buying them? CDs? Paid downloads from a band's website?
5. Talk about truth in advertising - this is a *really* dumb way to pass time. I love it.

Re: Yet Another Dumb Way to Pass Time (Music Related Again)
I believe we're using Spotify dates for album releases, and it's year, not month, that you need to be concerned about. If you don't have Spotify, can't make a playlist, Rass will do it for you. I buy vinyl every now and then, but generally use Spotify for day to day listening. Yes, it's gloriously dumb.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:52 am Okay, I'm back after a week off the grid. A few thoughts/questions ...

I did a few Googles around "best albums of 1998" and read multiple lists. Then I used that to find good, representative songs from Spotify from those albums (the ones I actually knew).Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 11:52 am Okay, I'm back after a week off the grid. Re: Yet Another Dumb Way to Pass Time (Music Related Again)
Yeah, I get/got most of my new music from KEXP so I did a lot of work tracking down their top albums of 2007 (which is no longer on the site) plus Pitchfork plus my iTunes library.
Re: Yet Another Dumb Way to Pass Time (Music Related Again)
I went down the wiki list of every album released that year per that list, picked about 25/30 that I liked from bands I liked and then pared it down from there. I had a great 16 song playlist that eventually became my list of 7.Shirley wrote: ↑Mon Jul 06, 2020 12:03 pmI did a few Googles around "best albums of 1998" and read multiple lists. Since one of us is now on the hook for his second playlist, are there final rules yet?

I haven't listened to them yet, but Duff has Bulls on Parade and 46 & 2 - two Hall of Famers in the starting lineup. Chedda betta be well-coached and have a good system.

I'm a sucker for a riff. And also Billy Joel.
I also think every movie should start with Stayin Alive regardless of plot relevance.

The truly embarrassing part is not just that there are lists where I don't recognize a single song, but how many of those lists there are.

I think Rush has my top two songs of the 14, but then DIS has the next 6 at least. Although I am re-listening to both just to confirm.

Yet another dumb question from the old guy - are the playlists linked anywhere? Or do I need to scroll back through the threads to find the competitors' lists?
