Super Bowl XLVIII
If you happen to have the NFL Network on right now, holy mackinaw, it looks like Edmonton outside that stadium.
I love the outdoor game. Some don't. Minor flurries would be nice. Cold would be nice. But a foot of snow on the field and constant downfall would just make for a sloppy game.
Host committee website is useful for visitors: http://nynjsuperbowl.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
At the moment, odds seem to be settling down to around Denver -2.5.
Can we call this the AFC West Bowl? That used to be quite a division rivalry.

Mind says: Denver

I think it all depends on the officiating. Seahawks obviously have to play super aggressive with the Broncos receivers. If they call it by the letter of the law, I like Denver. If they call it like Pats-Rams, I like Seattle.

Re: Super Bowl XLVIII
Most of the sharps out here are waiting until a clearer picture of the weather emerges since the thinking goes that Seattle would have a distinct advantage in very cold or rainy/snowy weather with their running game and defense. Though I've heard of a couple of guys that have loaded up on Seattle +2.5 and will try to middle the game if the weather moves the line back to Seattle being favored. If the weather goes to shit, there will be a lot of 5 and 6 figure bets on the Seahawks.

Spent 45 minutes outside this morning helping shovel out some of our work areas. Don't know how much snow fell, as it was a dry snow and drifted a lot yesterday in the wind.Scottie wrote:If you happen to have the NFL Network on right now, holy mackinaw, it looks like Edmonton outside that stadium.

The long-term meteorological forecast we get from a weather agency shifted the coming freezing rain and snowstorm from the day before the game to game day within the last 48 hours.

Denver by 6. Then I vomit.
(And I'm still annoyed I didn't start this thread a few weeks ago when the playoffs started. I really was going to choose Denver and Seattle.)

Yea, but I would have predicted it weeks ahead of time with mentioning Denver and Seattle specifically. Unless I'm completely missing what you're saying.

I could put this in the confessions thread but that would require 5 seconds of searching so....I've listened to far more Renee Fleming (National Anthem) than I have Bruno Mars (Halftime). In fact I've never listened to him (the song they play in the promos doesn't ring a bell) on purpose. It's quite possible I've been in a bar/casino and heard him but just not known it. Not dissing him, he's just outside my sphere. Am I the only one?

Re: Super Bowl XLVIII
Denver's weakness is pass defense. But, pass offense isn't a Seahawk strength. I really think it comes down to whether or not Denver's O-Line keeps Manning clean. If he's protected, I think Denver for sure. But, if Manning gets hit...
Sure hope the weather gets better. Five months ago, I was hoping for a blizzard that would keep fans away and embarrass Goodell & Co. for picking a cold-weather site. But, now that the team I root for is in it (and plays better in good weather), my view has changed.

In all seriousness . . . Bruno Mars are a band? Or some sort of singer? I honestly thought it was something entirely different. Although I gathered that it was some sort of product. Not that I put any real thought into it. Learn something new . . .

That is the opposite of a confession. I am the one who should be ashamed for knowing Bruno Mars and not knowing an Opera singer. Opera just isn't my bag. Bruno Mars isn't either, but that shit is unavoidable. I really know the song from Kidz Bop, but I can't throw my daughter under the bus for that.

Renée Fleming, on the other hand, is astounding. If you get a chance, try out DJ Funkenmeister Cool Mo-Z's Don Giovanni with Bryn Terfel and her. Stellar recording. This one.

Re: Super Bowl XLVIII
I realize my earlier comment was ambiguous, so here's the longer form: someone regarded as one of the finest pure singers in the world has been selected to perform a song intended to be rendered with the highest degree of reverence, and there seems to be uncertainty over whether this is a "good" thing.
Plus a sampling of comments from the #MURICADONTDISRESPECTTHEFLAGTRUCKSBEERGUNSBACON crowd asking whether she will "mess up" the anthem by singing "opera style." They do realize we're on a 20-30 year run of pop stars routinely bastardizing the anthem by turning it into a showcase for their personal brands, right?
She's a classically trained singer. She'll sing it correctly. That is the point. She will sing it in a way that will give Francis Scott Key a posthumous raging boner. If it doesn't sound "right" to someone, it will be because they've never heard it the right way.

Sames. The only song of his I "know" is the one from the adverts and only because I've heard it in a casino Muzak. As I do spend a fair bit of time driving my 14 year old daughter and her friends around, I get the pleasure of listening to far too much hit radio, so I am acquainted with Mr. Mars' work.I could put this in the confessions thread but that would require 5 seconds of searching so....I've listened to far more Renee Fleming (National Anthem) than I have Bruno Mars (Halftime). And while he's not my cup of tea, there's a lot worse out there. At least he gives the occasional nod to classic R & B. He's a sugary lightweight who makes teenage girls swoon, but better him than Bieber or another geriatric rocker. Although why anyone would watch the Super Bowl half time show over the Puppy Bowl is beyond me.

I'm not going to embarrass myself or Syb by forcing a rehash of the last conversation we had on Bruno Mars and KidzBop*. I will just say that this performance was the first time I put a face to the name, and I think it's a pretty entertaining 4+ minutes.
*Very glad the kids moved past the KidzBop stuff, though they're currently obsessed with the Frozen soundtrack, which would be OK (other than the repetitiveness), except they insist on knocking on the nearest door or wall during "Do you want to build a snowman", which always drives the dog nuts because he thinks someone is at the door.

Wise move. I knew he sang one of the songz on Kidz Bop, but had to Google to see which one. My son is long past Kidz Bop, but my daughter occasionally asks to hear it. She has conceded that we listen to my music on the drive to school and hers on the way home. I conveniently have her call my parents every day on the way home so she forget. She usually wants to do a duet to the version of B.O.B. Airplanes. She does the female parts of the chorus and I sing all of B.o.B.'s lines. I spit some mad rhymes.P.D.X. wrote:
