1.) Sarge with a brace coming back from injury in a friendly v. Hanover
2.) Gio Reyna promoted to the 1st team after a strong training camp (including a goal v. Feyenoor in a friendly)
3.) What is the US spending money on if they have both Stewart and now new GM McBride above the head coach. And while that may work with Gregg...would a top international let that org structure exist.

Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
Antonee Robinson's BIG $ transfer to AC Milan fell through after medical needed more tests. Some thought it was a bad deal as he would have been buried on the bench.
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
So Konrad de la Fuente is an 18-year old US youth international who has been with Barcelona for sometime was offered a new contract and told sign this or you will be on the bench until your contract runs out (he was flirting with Dortmund). Well looks like he is back in good graces. Pulled up from the U-19 to the Barcelona Bs on Monday. Comes in off the bench and scores the extra time winner and then later in the same day was training with the first team.

The Reyna goal was brilliant for Dortmund:
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
No Bueno. If I am Gregg and the gang, he is on the Roster for the Dutch and Wales in March and lock him with at minimum an appearance during the Nations League.

With Paul A out for a year with an ACL Gio has a spot. Herc Gomez was pretty clear on his thoughts this weekend. Get him on the field with the big boys now.

If they drag their feet on this and lose him that would...well, that would par for their course.

Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
Is that basically every American below 30 playing in MLS? I mean, it's great to see 4 guys from RSL on the list, but I don't know that I would put any of them - except maybe Justen Glad - as international caliber.wlu_lax6 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 10:57 am US Olympic qualification preliminary roster. And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
Teams won't release folks for the Olympic Qualifiers. If you look at the young Americans they will get March action with the full MNT against Wales and the Dutch. Gregg said Gio will get a call up for that. So you have Adams, Sarge, Dest, Adams, Weston, Holmes who won't go.Steve of phpBB wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 11:38 amIs that basically every American below 30 playing in MLS? Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
So Eric Lichaj, Hull's captain, did not get an extension agreement and won't finish the season. Seems like he was a big fan favorite. He is moving on. Strange he did not come up with a deal to finish the year. Maybe both sides playing hardball or Lichaj has suitors from another league...but does that mean he is trying to get to the MLS before the worst name tournament starts?
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
United States youth international Konrad de la Fuente has signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2022. US Youth National Teamer has a €50 million release clause that will rise to €100m if he is promoted to the first team before the expiration of the deal. Hertha Berlin wanted him. He will play on Barca B (for whom he has already scored a few goals) and has gotten training with Messi and the big boys.
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
So big week for son of former USMNT
Son of Gregg B gets his first action with Colombus
Tyler Wolff (son of Josh--now Austin's HC) signs with ATL United as homegrown (after 1 season with ATL's youth side).

Brooks, Cannon, Dest, Miazga, Ream, Richards, Robinson
Adams, Cardoso, Ledezma, McKennie, Musah, Otasowie
Konrad, Gioacchini, Pulisi, Llanez, Reyna, Sargent, Soto, Weah
19 of 24 are eligible for the Olympics next year

Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
So do people more familiar think Berhalter is committed to turnover or is this more for looks and Bradley et all will be right back in for qualifiers?
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
But do they have another bradley yet. Assume that's what reyna is based on dad but seems like maybe you can get away a while longer as a holding distribution type midfielder especially if you've got mckennie behind you and speed in front and outside.
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
Not sure if intentional or not but there are no MLS players on there. (Maybe a handshake deal since that'll be playoffs time or there's just no one good.)

It's a COVID thing, they decided a European based player only camp since they are playing in Europe.

Mihailovic with the Fire so he is out for COVID reasons. Aaronson does not head to Europe until after the MLS season.
Jóhannsson has been hot but the last few weeks but guessing he lost out on the Olympic tradeoff. Plus for a full MNT he has to step past Zardes and Altidore, Morris, Ferreira (Dallas), Ebobisse. He is probably fighting for a look against Bobby Wood and Novakovich.
You also have another set of YNT who are starting to emerge..Kelman, Soto, Pepi, Ocampo-Chavez, Toye

As as for Bradley..guessing Adams has the top spot with Morales, Cardoso (plays in Brazil), McKennie, Holmes, Pomykal, Maybe Canouse finally gets a look.
Wonder if Ariola will get back next year after the ACL Tear.

2022 is not a long way away
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
So this thread was started in November '17 with a roster for a friendly. Interesting to see that young squad and we still consider them young today. Weston, Sarge, Adams to name a few.
Also interesting to see whose National Team Careers faded away (Bedoya, Jesse Gonzales)
Re: 2022 is a long way away USA Soccer Thread
Too bad our old Welsh Swampper Tom no longer comes around because this young USMNT is going to put the boots to the Dragons today. FS1 at 2:45
