I mean. I think it’s probably the professional way? Did saban react poorly? I didn’t see that in the link.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.

The point is how over the top that reporter's response is.

Why can he call saban’s wife Terry?

Re: NCAA Football 2020/21 post-season
Because she's not Nick Saban?

That reporter is being a goofball, but I actually agree... you should be calling ANY coach "coach."
Now, I was always "Coach (first name)"... But you shouldn't be waltzing around calling HoF coaches by their first name in public. (I have no problem with long-time acquaintances dropping the honorific in private, of course.)

Referring to anyone who isn't a friend by only their last name is weird and probably disrespectful. I mean in person, obviously; in writing it's fine.
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: NCAA Football 2020/21 post-season
Agreed but that’s between the writer, Saban and Alabama’s SID department. Venerating Saban with that post is just really weird. He doesn’t need his honor defended.

she also sounded clearly like a young reporter who was very nervous! asking questions in press conferences can be scary even after you've done it for 10 years

So, I just saw that Mississippi State is 3-7, and playing tomorrow in a Bowl game? They must be so proud. What a farce.

A 3-7 team in a bowl game seems like an appropriately stupid way for 2020 to end.

The best announcers seem to do OK with the remote work. But man, UK had some BAD games called this year. Same shit you're saying. No clue what's going on. It has to be harder to not be there.

Re: NCAA Football 2020/21 post-season
The weird thing is a lot of top-level announcers will advise people breaking into the business to call what is on the monitor even when at the stadium because the words support what their viewers are seeing.
I don't understand how commentators end up not doing the mechanics of calling the game. I mean, they can still do after the play commentary of gain/loss, spot, upcoming down-and-distance, etc. I don't think viewers will tune out/get upset if the play-by-play guy states things with a degree of uncertainty, like "gain of about three", "near the 35", whatever. I get delays in identifying some players because the angle may prevent correct identification, but avoiding the "facts" bothers me.

Re: NCAA Football 2020/21 post-season
Just a guess, but very good chance Mississippi State started the brawl
Re: NCAA Football 2020/21 post-season
This puzzles me as well because one of my biggest beefs is when announcers announce a flag on a big play and have no idea what’s going on when most even casual fans can figure out what a flag is for watching live in person but announcers can’t because they watch the monitors (like the fans are). But I don’t get it when they’re puzzled about what’s happening in the damn monitors.DSafetyGuy wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 3:41 pmThe weird thing is a lot of top-level announcers will advise people breaking into the business to call what is on the monitor even when at the stadium because the words support what their viewers are seeing.

Meanwhile I’m impressed by Rick Neuheisel calling this Arizona Bowl. He’s 100 times better than Gary Danielson.

I think Danielson is about the worst there is.

Re: NCAA Football 2020/21 post-season
I don't know if the announcers were there or not; they did have an on the field guy. The play that prompted my first comment was a kick return where the player stepped out of bounds, you could see the side judge waving his arms saying the play was over, Tulsa players stopped chasing, and the Miss St player didn't celebrate after running it in the endzone. Announcers are going on and on about the touchdown with all the touchdown graphics until finally they noticed the offense lining up at the 40. So then the announcer praised the refs for not calling him out of bounds and letting the review fix it. Very fitting for a 3-7 Bowl Team.

Among my friends Danielson is roughly as popular as hitler. He is hated. He’s had sooooo many Alabama games over the years. So very glad CBS lost the contract.

Florida fans were way better as mask wearing than OU fans.
I also once got chewed out at Baylor basketball camp when I was 10 for calling Coach Gene Iba “Genie” to his face. He laughed it off, but one of his assistants absolutely (and correctly) did not. One of the random cringe-worthy memories I have.
