I don't who the ref was. That looks to have been his second tech so maybe the ref was just pissed off at him for whatever he said to get his first tech.

Joey is a grumpy, bald white guy, so no.

That's a terrible, terrible, terrible (repeat as desired) call.

One of the features of Lowry's beautiful jump shot is that both his feet move forward of his body as he elevates. Every time. Even when he is wide open, undefended. Cue up a youtube and see for yourself, it really is pretty. Yes, his right foot moved forward just slightly more than did his left; at most an extension of his normal motion to protect himself against an onrushing defender, that hardly constitutes a foul. Worlds away from Kobe or Reggie Miller flinging their feet laterally, in a completely unnatural (to the jump shot) manner in order to initiate contact and draw a foul.

Bullshit call.

Watching it live, it actually looked like a reasonable - if unusual - call. It looked like he threw his leg out and then flopped when he was touched. I'm happy to see plays like that result in offensive fouls.

It didn't look as bad on replays.

I'm torn on the tech too. He didn't say anything to the ref (that I could tell), but he clearly made a BIG DEAL out of being called for the foul. I'm not huge on players showing up refs and getting away with it.

Wait...are you actually suggesting that that wasn't just a completely horrible call?

It was unspeakably bad. And deliberately bad. Should have been a two-point game after that. Instead the officials turned it into a ten-point swing in favor of Sacramento. Watch every Raptors game; it's amazing how automatic it almost seems that every contact foul called in the waning seconds just happens to go against them.

You'll notice it wasn't the guys who watch Raptors games that complained about it on here. Why? We see that every night.

Yes.

It looked to me like he intentionally threw his legs out to initiate contact with the defender. Then he flopped after the contact. I've never seen that called before, but if the refs sees what I saw, that should be a foul. Or well, it could be. I have no problem with it not being called either - so long as they never fall for that shit and call it on the defense. But we all know refs do fall for that ploy.

Actually, what I said above is that on the replay, it looked LESS like a foul to me - that his legs naturally swung out. But then, that's a pretty unusual way to shoot. Howard says it's his normal stroke, but then that's what Reggie Miller normally did as well, and his kick was completely intentional. If flopping in the post can be a foul on the flopper, I don't see why it's any different for a jump shooter. If players are going to try to game the system, there need to be risks.

His normal stroke includes both feet moving forward together. Here, his right foot moves slightly more forward than the left.

This is akin to a dribbler raising the off arm to shield himself from the defender, imo. The motion itself is legal; if contact is made with the defender, it is not automatically a foul. If the forearm and elbow are violently thrown and make contact, it is a foul (and can be a flagrant 1 or 2, depending upon degree of violence and location of contact).

Slightly pushing his right foot beyond his normal movement, in the face (figuratively--literally and then you do have a foul) of an onrushing defender is just not a foul, even with minimal contact.

Sure, he flopped. Call him for flopping, not for that bullshit.

There was a worse call in the Suns/Rockets game, though not at such a crucial time. Dragic pumped faked from top of the key, defender jumps, but stops about three feet short of him and is standing straight up as Dragic then jumps directly into him. Three shots!

OKC is a 21 point favorite tonight vs Phily. Not sure I've ever seen a line that high.

Russell Westbrook recorded a triple-double in just 21 minutes of playing time last night. The only time in NBA history it was done faster was in 1955, which shouldn't really count.

Okay, this drives me nuts every year--when it's Hispanic Heritage Month and instead of actually translating the team names, they just slap "Los" or "El" before it.

Lakers 101-Knicks 73.

That is not the bad news if you follow the Knicks.

The bad news is…

They have another quarter to play.

Terrific block. Who did that?

Calderon guarding anyone, much less Curry is a bad mismatch. But Curry made it look easy. Set him up, then took him right where he wanted to get the shot off, away from any double team. Master class.

I thought he died several years ago. Or maybe that was just what Celtic's fans wanted. He must be having one of the longest careers ever.

Left-handed relievers and NBA big men. They are the Undead. Someday there will be a initially promising but eventually sub-mediocre NBA big man who can also get lefties out. He will turn pro right out of high school, and play for 20+ years in MLB and the NBA. Probably live in 100 condos during that time. Rack up a combined 5 or 6 ACL tears and Tommy John surgeries.

So far T Mac is as close as they get. But this time will come.

It's really amazing how much Pat Beverley means to the Rockets. That, or it shows just how awful at defense and passing Jeremy Lin is.
