what software? firewall software, or something more robust like a SIEM tool that pulls logs from all the appliances into a fancy, badass dashboard?Shirley wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:21 pmWell my company that makes cybersecurity software is essentially all remote now. You know, and I’m sure this is typically true in the larger continuing education sense, but holy shit have the backgrounder & problem/solution white papers written about these various MSPs, appliances, etc helped augment the required readings during my undergrad and now graduate studies.

On a related note, the same day my new boss emphasized how we have to get more billable hours (which means going into different clients' homes), I received a group e-mail from the company's CEO saying how these are scary, desperate times, so we should not travel for the holidays.

Wife woke up feeling exhausted and with post-nasal drip and is teetering on being pretty freaked out, mostly because she’s worried about the rest of us. No fever, which is good. But it’s Sunday and it’s difficult to find a test today. I moved a couple of days worth of stuff out of my room so I can stay away from her just to make her feel better about the situation because if she has it and is symptomatic I’m sure the collateral damage has already been done.

Do you have CVS? Got my son in quick on Friday, and got a text this morning that he's negative.

It's winter. Folks get sick anyway. She's good. Positive vibes. Kid had headache and needed a nap yesterday, which my kid almost never requests. All good though. Don't even need a test to cause he hasn't really been anywhere in more than a month.
Re: The Captain Trips Anxiety thread
She told me she had a line on a place and asked for her wallet so she could enter whatever she needed to enter to pre-reg and then she fell back asleep. So I told/texted the kids the what’s up and went for a long run and got back and she’s still asleep.

RE: the vaccine, I didn’t think it worked that way but I dunno
She has an appt late this afternoon at a CVS to get tested.
Beyond the immediate selfish concern for her and me and the kids, if she’s positive then she picked it up at work which means someone else there is sick which means that their public vaccine rollout this week could be in big trouble.

You can't catch COVID from the vaccine, but my understanding is that your body could feel some symptoms, which are related to your body making antibodies for the virus.rass wrote: ↑Sun Jan 10, 2021 11:14 am RE: the vaccine, I didn’t think it worked that way but I dunno

I can confirm. Especially dose 2. Not so much the first. Nothing immediate and for about 12-18 hrs about 1 day out for me. Nothing nasal and not much lethargy. Chills.
Re: The Captain Trips Anxiety thread
I'm hearing some ill effects off dose 2 from people. I'd say isolate and give it a day or two.

Re: The Captain Trips Anxiety thread
So, our across the street good friends, who we've been playing D&D with and who comes over for late night firepit with my son...
They had a friend of the daughter come up with a positive last week. We bailed on an outdoor football viewing party on Sunday, which wasn't a huge deal, but was a bit of a bummer.
Anyways, they all got tested and we just found out all is good.
Still, just goes to show how razor thin these margins are.

As one who works from home anyway, my lifestyle is not really effected.
And realistically - other than the outdoor gatherings... this is pretty much the way things have been since the summer.

Same. Every time things are loosened or made more strict here, it doesn't affect my personal day-to-day at all.

My 81 year-old mum told me today that she and my father are scheduled to get their Covid vaccinations on the 26th, so I'm pretty stoked about that.

Re: The Captain Trips Anxiety thread
It's not anything to actually get worked up about, but I am bored from being in our bedroom after 55 1/2 hours (earliest official exit should be Wednesday).
I did actually leave earlier today to take the dog for a walk while the rest of the family was skiing. I put on an N95 mask before leaving the bedroom. Anyone who recognized Ben (in our neighborhood, they recognize the dog) would know something is up because his human was wearing a mask.

The director of the largest club volleyball organization in town dies of COVID today. We didn’t get along but I hate to see anyone die.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: The Captain Trips Anxiety thread
This is more general anxiety but I haven't really slept in e days because everytime I lay down I get paranoid about dying in my sleep...I mean there is no reason tonight couldn't be the night...its just as probable as any other night...and the only way I know not to die in my sleep is to stay awake. Starting to go a little crazy though
