Media fawning.
Also #uncletim trending on Twitter is not a good look.

Last night was the night Joe Biden became president, period.

Why? He's been President since Day 1. The speech last night was fine. But the fawning. They've already forgotten about Obama.

So what's the headline? "Biden gives pretty good speech, but Obama did that too a dozen years ago." With a Sears ad for wet blankets underneath.

Biden gives great speech, direction on country progressive and clear after years of uncertainty.
Best President since FDR? He's been there 100 days.

Respectfully, fuck that shit. After four years of the right-side media fawning over the litany of racism and failure, going a little overboard when presented with basic competence is understandable.degenerasian wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:51 amBiden gives great speech, direction on country progressive and clear after years of uncertainty.

Fox News is absolute garbage. Yesterday they were talking about Bidens fake wardrobe. We don't want to go there.L-Jam3 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:57 amRespectfully, fuck that shit. Just report the news. It was a great, strong speech.

Just report the news is not the job of the people you quoted.

Black guy stands up and reads from a pre-written talking points teleprompter in which he accuses Biden of tearing the nation apart.
Dude’s straight up gaslighting.

This.
The indirect bothsidesing some people are apparently hardwired to barf out in an effort to get to the real truth John Lennon once screamed about is fucking horse shit.

True. But I think there are still too many blue checkmarks fawning.

Re: Happy Inauguration Day (and beyond- The Biden Presidency Thread part I)
This was the 100th day in office speech. The bar was set so low by the previous administration that all he had to do was be competent these past three months. He did that, and he’s hitching onto optimism. It’s not just fawning for the sake of #BlueMAGA.degenerasian wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 9:54 amTrue. Stop bothsidesing. It’s insulting.

Re: Happy Inauguration Day (and beyond- The Biden Presidency Thread part I)
Biden saying "Congress should do something about this <insert thing that would make country better>" means nothing. He said should like 58 times and complimented the Republicans, not one of who voted for the only thing he's done so far.

Until the Democrats get onboard with the power of consistent, multi-pronged & repetitive messaging, nothing will change. That doesn’t mean Biden didn’t hit a grand slam last night.

No I know...it was a good speech and you're right, there is a relevance to the rhetoric.

Were DOJ's always name-associated with potus or did that just start with little t-rump?
Re: Happy Inauguration Day (and beyond- The Biden Presidency Thread part I)
Yeah that's a fair question. Does the DoJ offer past presidents legal protection for the purpose of securing the nation?

Curious to know your angle on this. Too much content? Podcasts and Youtube series are for younger/older/non-white people?Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 8:34 am white guys in their 30s really need to stop with the podcast and youtube series thing
If I wanted to get into punditry or entertainment, seems like the only way to go right now. Why try to make it onto CNN or a network and be confined by the strict rules by some suits when you can very easily and inexpensively put out your own product, say exactly what you want, and actually have a much better shot at finding an audience or making a living?

oh, it's not a criticism of podcasting or youtubing in the slightest. it's the mediums that are the most popular at the moment and understandably soThe Sybian wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 8:42 amCurious to know your angle on this. and I speak from this a little more inside baseball than most, but there feels an overwhelming push/presence from people in my demographic (as I fit the white guy in his 30s demo squarely) to get into podcasting and youtubing. and it's a presence that feels self-indulgent at best. not everyone has to have a podcast or a youtube series, yet everyone (that's obvious hyperbole) in my demo thinks that they need to have one so the world can hear their takes
(there is a very long-running twitter joke to this point -- just search "white male 30s podcast" and you'll see a never-ending stream of jokes)

Thanks, that makes sense. So a knock on White guys in their 30s as a demographic for being narcissistic in believing people need to know what they think. I wonder if it's the Millennial mindset, or just the timing of a the medium being so easy and the age where people are starting to get a hold on their careers.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 8:51 amoh, it's not a criticism of podcasting or youtubing in the slightest. it's the mediums that are the most popular at the moment and understandably soThe Sybian wrote: ↑Tue Jun 08, 2021 8:42 amCurious to know your angle on this. I think it's a mix of systemically advantaged guys my age thinking they have the world figured out along with an easy medium to explain why they have the world figured out with that easily-available medium

Re: Happy Inauguration Day (and beyond- The Biden Presidency Thread part I)
So I can't remember if it was this thread or the politics thread where we were talking about the $1400 checks, but I found out what happens for people whose incomes were too high in 2019 to qualify but dropped in 2020.
I found out this weekend when the IRS put $5600 into my checking account. It took me a while to figure out what it was.

30+ year old white guys clearly need to go on TV for their point to be taken seriously then.
