I would have liked to hear Dan Carlin. He seems to have really had his worldview changed and rocked through the last several years but also seems to have embraced it and grown instead of going full stick in the mud libertarian.

Re: Random Politics
Yes, this is exactly the line I'm drawing. Trump isn't a Conservative at all. He has no political ideology or beliefs, his entire Presidency was about feeding his own ego and abusing power for personal gain. Do you think he gives a fuck about deficits, or "family values," or Christianity, or pro-Life? Fuck no. He advanced a lot of Conservative policies and appointed Conservative judges, but that was doing favors for the Conservatives that propped him up, because he doesn't give a fuck about policies beyond how they affect him personally. He advanced their causes, and they protected his power, advanced his lies, refused to stand up to him or investigate his crimes, his tax fraud, his violation of the emoluments clause... Trump was a Democrat most of his life. His kids couldn't vote for him in the New York primaries in 2015 because they were late in switching from Democrat to Republican.degenerasian wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 8:37 pm
Wait. So Trump and Trump supporters are less hard core conservative? But they are more anti-democracy and anti-constitution? Is this the line you're drawing?
The biggest Trump supporters don't even understand policy issues, they love Trump for attack the Libtardz, "speaking the truth" and allowing them to stop hiding their racism, sexism and general horribleness. They don't give a fuck about the estate tax or trickle down economic policies, they care about the culture war bullshit and being able to fly a Confederate flag and say the N-word in public. I think a lot of Conservatives in Congress pretended to support Trump to get their agendas through, and they doubled down and defended so many heinous things he sad and did, they felt they had no choice but to go all in, because they couldn't admit their mistakes in supporting him before, so they had to continue to support him. That isn't Conservatism, that is Trumpism. Huge difference. The GOP is no longer a party about Conservative ideas, it's a party about lying and cheating to hold on to power, because if they were honest about what they let Trump turn the Party into, the Party would collapse and lose enough support to lose power. Liz Cheney wasn't stripped of her post because she isn't Conservative enough, she is way more Conservative than Stefanik, she was stripped because she is speaking truth to Trump's lies.
As for anti-democracy and anti-Constitution, while I disagree with Conservatives views on interpreting the Constitution, they are at least tethered to a logical argument. Strict Constructionism is bullshit and a way to limit Progressive ideals because the Founders didn't specifically grant rights to things in modern life they never could have foreseen, but that is a far cry from the lunacy and conspiracy theories of Trumpism. Gerrymandering is cheating, but in a legal way, and has been done since the beginning of our country. Hell, the term was coined in 1812! Yes, it's against the spirit of the Constitution, morally wrong and needs to be eliminated, but it pales in comparison to lying to overthrow a fair and legitimate Presidential election, complete with instigating a violent insurrection on Congress while attempting to murder the VP for refusing to overturn the results.

Re: Random Politics
The only 'ideals' the Republican Party has anymore is TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP! That's it...nothing else. Cheney is as hard-core conservative as possible, and she got the boot because she dared to speak against the Dear Leader, and state the obvious truth that the election wasn't rigged, and that Trump is responsible for what happened on 1/6.degenerasian wrote: ↑Thu May 13, 2021 8:33 am Liz Cheney was simply demoted because she doesn't support the ideals of the party. This happens all the time. The media is just all over it because she's a Republican bashing Trump. Trump is still an obsession.

Re: Random Politics
Cheney is also all of those things. She supported Trump on everything until Jan 6. And who led the Jan 6 insurrection? Ted Cruz was the reason they was an issue in the first place causing the crowd to then be there.
The GOP didn't just begin to lie when Trump came down that escalator. Look what they did to Obama for 8 years.

This fucking loser just always has to insert himself as a voice of the military despite the military being apolitical.
That's why the Lt Col got fired. Not because he's spreading a political message, but he's doing it while wearing a uniform, commanding troops, and calling out the SecDef on a podcast while representing the USSF.
You can believe whatever the fuck you want in the military right up until you put on the uniform and go to work. Your opinion stops there. You aren't being targeted by the 'woke mob of SJWs' either. You're literally breaking the law.

Re: Random Politics
Watched a bunch of clips last night on the Matt Gaetz scandal. This shit looks really bad for Gaetz. According to all of the former prosecutors interviewed, the plea agreement has an unheard of amount of supporting documentation, and Gaetz' buddy pled guilty to the most serious offenses, so the they proved to the guy they had him nailed. The plea references evidence against other suspects, and they wouldn't offer a plea unless he had evidence against a bigger target, which is almost certainly Gaetz. This is going to be a really fun one.

Re: Random Politics
“I don’t want to” can mean anything from a definitive statement ending all discussion (eg “because I said so”) up to a threat in and of itself (eg “I don’t want to have to smack you in the head, but by god I will”)
Hopefully the former of course but the comment itself means nothing.

I mean the Dems are negotiating from a position of the strength but that’s rarely a dynamic the GOP respects. Hopefully in this case if they don’t take the deal to make it a little less painful, Pelosi goes for the jugular. In this case, it’s hard to see a downside. There are bad optics for places where hardcore politics could backfire but the GOP treason attempt shouldn’t be one of them.

Re: Random Politics
(My secret hope is that instead of making it one of the first things the House did on 1/20 as it warranted that Pelosi and the Dems are slow-walking this up to the ‘22 midterms to extract maximum pain next fall as the dominos fall. That’s the game I would play. I’m not sure they’re that smart.
