2021 NBA Playoffs
Hey, they start tonight. Maybe the most wide-open in recent memory.
Here's some words from our old friend Oil Can Boyd:
I don't know which scenario would make me laugh more, my guys taking them down in Round 2, or the Knicks going down to the most "just there" team in sports in Round 1.

Re: 2021 NBA Playoffs
Since my team is out for the first time in a very long time, I am rooting for the Knicks due to a friend of mine even though he sometimes wears a fucking Astros trash can shirt. Plus, they don't have a Rockets version of this bad boy.

Re: 2021 NBA Playoffs
I tend to think the Knicks’ lack of fourth quarter offense is going to catch up with them in this series. They’ve been barely hanging on the last couple of weeks. Atlanta is not a good defensive team, but perhaps they’ll watch some instructional videos this week.
None of the other series really matter.

I don't remember what Michael's handle was in the Swamp, but it wasn't Oil Can Boyd. That's a different guy.

NBA making sure it is 8 on 5 in a game that matters for the Lakers I see...
Re: 2021 NBA Playoffs
Not for nothing, but the Lakers-Warriors game last night was a total banger. More than worth staying up late here on East coast.

I gotta admit, once Golden State had the ball with the final shot in regulation I thought it was a done deal. Ja was fantastic.

Re: 2021 NBA Playoffs
I know they will be lucky to win a game against Utah, but I don't care. I am so excited Memphis is back in the playoffs. It was two years from tearing this down to the studs to getting back (after two years of last gasps from the former group that came up short).
Also, the transition shot and beat from the old to the new in this short hype video from the team is exceptional...

Proper playoff atmosphere in NY. 15000 screaming/chanting every possession.

When I posted that, the Jazz were on their way to closing to within one. I turned around and then they were down by 9.tennbengal wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 10:50 pmCan't breathe here. I have to hope that the Jazz's terrible shooting and turnovers are just a fluke.

The terrible shooting absolutely a fluke. The TOs...dunno. Memphis forces a lot of turnovers - their D is quite good and really under-rated (probably b/c they are so young). They force mistakes.

Re: 2021 NBA Playoffs
Since the 90s Knicks came up, I have a pretty distinct memory of sitting in a line of cars at the Meadowlands waiting to leave a Devils playoff game* and listening to the game when Van Gundy went for Mourning's ankles and trying to figure out WTF was happening based on just an audio description.
Amazingly that was both 21 years ago AND I was just able to verify that there was a Devils game that night (they beat Ottowa 3-1 before heading north to lose the series) so I'm not completely full of shit.
*free tickets from work, I guess no one cared to see a possible elimination game against Ottawa, biggest question is whether I was in the car with s/cerrano or my wife (then girlfriend), or could have been my roommate at the time, but I don't think he went to games very often with me

The contrast between this bored crowd “enjoying” a 25-point Nets lead and MSG the other night is.....something.

Did I miss a story on why John Cleese is a Utah Jazz fan?

And, in case you all were rightfully asleep and then missed this on your timeline:
Grizzlies lost by 12 but it should have been about 35. Was only close because of Morant. And that was with him attacking Gobert and the lane on his way to 47.

Re: 2021 NBA Playoffs
Not sure how old I thought Derrick Rose was before these playoffs started but it was definitely older than 32-and-still-an-effective-basketball-player.
A lack of a daily commute has definitely hurt my baseline level of knowledge of the status of the Knicks, Yankees and Mets (WFAN stalwarts). Not really complaining about that.
