Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
I mean, I expected Cashman to blow smoke up the media's ass the way he always does (he's a smug SOB whose time has absolutely passed, but that's a discussion for another day), but I must admit I didn't expect to see Hal get out in front of the mic and throw the clubhouse under the bus like that. His endorsement of Cashman was LOLAF.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
Must admit I was rooting for Walker to throw a no-hitter vs the Yankees. What will motivate Hal to make some changes is whenever the casual NYC fan pays more attention ($) to the Mets than they do the Yankees. I mean, they have the same +/- # of diehard fans.
It's the casual fan that will drive change. The Mets pretty much leveled the playing field after a couple years ('64-ish), and it wasn't until their boneheaded decision to trade the most popular player in the State of New York (in any sport, really), Tom Seaver - did the Yankees really reclaim the city as their own. They lost it later in the 80s when Steinbrenner made a buffoon of himself and Gooden and Strawberry became must see events, and obviously the Yankees developing players that are easy to root for (in George's absence, obviously) helped them reclaim the city once more.
Long story short (too late), it's time for a change.

That's some sick shit. How many steps to serial killer. Can you really walk the line between fractured skull and dead. Answer is no. So what happens when you kill someone by "accident."sancarlos wrote: Wed Jun 30, 2021 6:22 pm Disturbing details emerge in Trevor Bauer assault allegations
Answer is you're forced to cover it up and dispose of the body. Even for the most rational of guys. I'd say once you've done that there's no turning back.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
The Mets get lots of grief for Bobby Bonilla Day, but poking on Spotrac it seems most teams are deferring salary in a similar way. The Reds are paying Ken Griffey Jr just short of $3.6M this year (Bronson Arroyo $1.3M) and the Dodgers are paying Scott Kasmir $8M. I'm sure there are other egregious examples but those were the first two I checked.

The Nats deferred something like $30 or $40 million (IIRC) of Scherzer’s contract.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
It's $105M actually, $15M per year starting July 1, 2022, running for six more years after that.brian wrote: Sun Jul 04, 2021 4:45 pm The Nats deferred something like $30 or $40 million (IIRC) of Scherzer’s contract.
Strasburg has $80M deferred over three years after his contract runs out after the 2026 season.
The deferred money is why Harper and Rendon barely considered returning to Washington.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
Bryce Harper just hit his first home run this year with runners on base. His 14 straight solo shots to open the season falls two short of Felipe Alou's 55-year old record.
The HR looks like it has put the final touches on the Cubs 11th straight loss since a combined no-hitter on June 24th, which is the longest losing streak after a no-hitter in 96 years.

Ohtani is a freaking alien at this point.
My avatar corresponds on my place in the Swamp posting list with the all-time Home Run list. Tied with Mel Ott at Number 25 is Miguel Cabrera at 511.

Re: 2021 MLB Regular Season Thread
With Mike Trout returning and Ohtani dominating, maybe the Angels can move up a bit? I know Trout has been hurt, and Ohtani was hurt last season, but amazing that a team with arguably the two top talents in baseball is always so mediocre.

In 2021 that's kind of unbelievable. Good thing Baltimore has no history of racial strife.
