As crazy as it sounds, he's actually doing what they tell you to do (he's likely uncapping the bear spray in his pocket/holster, too).

I thought he handled it like a champ, I would have soiled myself. Is shitting yourself going to attract the bears or will the smell put them off? I could see that going either way, but the smell from a terror shit from encountering a giant bear is more likely going to make the bear run away in horror.

Oh no doubt. TBH, the fact he didn't mace the bear made me think it might be a deep-fake video. Cuz a bear in that proximity? They say to bust out the spray and aim above its head once he heads towards you and gets within 20-ish feet. That bear was inside of 10 feet, albeit walking perpendicularly to him.

Man. The Great NW aint that cool.

If charging. This guy read the bear's body language very well. (Also Alaskan browns are known for not being terribly interested in ppl. Just stay out of their way and you're good.)

This was my view driving back to our summer cabin around 3 in the afternoon (before the evac orders).

Our place is about a mile in front of that ridgeline. At the time, the fire was burning less than a mile on the other side of the ridge, but there is nothing between the fire and the top of the ridge except dry forest and brush, with lots of dead trees from a beetle infestation. This is the general layout - the cabin is the northernmost pin in the google map photo.

By the time the evacuation order came an hour later, we were already on our way out. Luckily we were able to gather the cats quickly.

And even more luckily for us, we were able to just drive down to our house less than a half hour away in SLC. Most of the other houses up there are permanent homes, so people had to find somewhere to go or shelter at the local high school.

The latest word is that the fire growth had slowed, but it was still growing and still uncontained. (I actually don't think it'll breach that ridge and get into Summit Park, but I guess you never know.) We were told to expect the evacuation to be at least 24-48 hours.

No rain, but probably even more luckily, there hasn't been much wind either.

This morning's infrared data shows no real movement toward the east (Summit Park and eventually Timberline, where my summer home is).

My place is on Cedar Way, on the north edge of the snip, about halfway between the middle and the eastern edge. My place looks pretty safe, but it'd really suck if the fire made it into Summit Park, not just for the people living there, but also because it's a beautiful wooded view, which we don't get a lot of here in Utah.

I've got a wasp problem. They built a nest by the eavesthrough and through the siding into the insulation. I found the hole they were flying out of and sprayed wasp-repelent into it and plugged the hole 10 days ago with peppermint-laced cotton balls. So now they can't fly out to get food.

Problem now of course it that they now fly one by one into the house, through vents and light fixtures. So it's an ongoing war. Any solutions?

Well it sounds like they either have to all die off or you have to take some siding off to get to the whole nest. I'd recommend calling an exterminator, personally. Wasp nests are no joke.

Just burn the house down, collect insurance, and start over. I imagine you can't be too far off from the first cold snap that will kill them all off, but if they are trapped in the house, maybe the won't die? Call an exterminator.
