There was a change in the law or application of the law maybe 3 years ago that really restricted the practice.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 4:16 pmAnd DC was one of the worst offenders of this when I was coming out of college. I worked 60 hours a week as an unpaid intern at the DLC in 1991-2. I eventually got a paid gig there, which is one of the main carrots, but hoo boy did DC mess with young, aspiring kids back in the day.The Sybian wrote: ↑Wed Nov 03, 2021 3:24 pmUnless an intern is getting school credits, it's almost impossible to legally have unpaid interns today. There are some exceptions, but I'd be really careful.
And congrats to your oldest, AB. That kid is going places!

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
My older daughter, who's a junior at Gonzaga, found out yesterday that she got a (well-paid) internship for the summer with West Monroe, a digital consulting firm HQ'ed in Chicago, but with an office here in Seattle. It was super competitive, and it looks like something like 95% of their interns get offered full-time positions after graduation.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
Welp, the XC season is prematurely done. Kid broke a little toe last night and was advised not to run on it. She kicked something while attempting to stretch because she was really sore from a practice earlier in the week. Yeah…
She ended the season PR’ing left and right and made the all county team (came in 7th at the county championships last week). She has the second best female time in school history at her home course, with two more years to make it hers.
We have an appointment with an actual orthopedist on Tuesday. Hopefully she can be ok for winter track in December.

Not quite a parent yet but we did our IVF transfer over the weekend. As some of you know, it took a long time with surgery and treatment but we ended up with 4 embryos, 1 transferred and 3 frozen. Official pregnancy test will be on the 8th to see if everything attached like it's supposed to.

The kid running winter? Mine is, and if spectators are allowed this year we'll be there.
The official start of practice was supposed to be yesterday but has been delayed until later this week because the coach had COVID. The high school is one of three schools in the district that has switched the 1/2 days (to avoid lunch, I guess?) for all of this week because of an uptick in cases.

Re: Proud Parental Unit Crowing Thread
yep.
first practice is tomorrow.
also first season i don't have to get him new spikes as the old ones fit!
as long as i'm not traveling, i'll be at the meets.. top of the bleachers, shooting video (got me a new lens and tripod!)

Good point, need to make sure his spikes fit. Bought new spikes for xcountry, but I don’t think he ever wore them.

So everything attached properly and officially pregnant now. Numbers are really strong.
