Real, or looking to get Michigan to put up at least what PSU and MSU paid out?
Being a college coach, even at his stratosphere, seems so much more enjoyable than the NFL gig.

Stating the obvious: A version of this story has run every year since he got to Ann Arbor.
The guy lives in a house on the same street as Bo's family home. He's a king in that town. He's finally (apparently) got the momentum in the right direction.
Anything's possible, I guess.

I'm not prepared to drink all the milk and wear all the khakis that being a fan of the Bears would require if he returns to the franchise that drafted him.

what...precisely...did Tampa think would happen when they brought in Antonio Brown? I guess it's all good because they won last year. But I confess to taking some delight from seeing Brady and Arians burned a little for the hubris.

Re: NFL Week 18 - the extra week
I saw Brown speak out, and I'm wondering about his story. He claimed he told Arians his ankle was too injured to continue playing, Arians told him if he doesn't play hurt, he is getting cut. Brown said his ankle is fractured, has bone fragments, the ligament is torn from the bone and cartilage damage. If true, it's fucked up they made him play. He came in with an injury designation after sitting out due to an ankle injury in practice. I watched the game, he was moving well, but he said they shot him up with pain killers. No excuse for the tantrum (other than CTE or mental illness), but I have some sympathy for him if the extent of the injuries are true.tennbengal wrote: ↑Thu Jan 06, 2022 10:16 am what...precisely...did Tampa think would happen when they brought in Antonio Brown? Sure.
I was mostly referencing the instagram broadsides this AM on top of everything else this week with him. It's all...a lot. And I am glad to see it blow up a bit on Brady and Arians.

Re: NFL Week 18 - the extra week
Yeah, I'd have to hear from a doctor that Brown was injured before I believe his story. Self-serving, after-the-fact excuse, from a guy who's done that repeatedly in the past.

I'm not unsympathetic to Antonio Brown - he may have CTE (or he may just be a complete asshole) - but at this point, he has as much credibility as Donald Trump.

Re: NFL Week 18 - the extra week
Probably truth to both parts.
Team convinced Brown to take the painkiller to play in the game, say that they needed him. Brown agrees, lots of targets, etc. He had bonuses worth 2$ million he could get.
Brown then got pissed off about not getting targets did what Brown does and was pissed about it.
Brown probably actually hurt gets told to go back in the game, he says no because of his injury (and because he's pissed off because of targets), and Arians gets pissed off thinking it has nothing to do with the injury and it's just about targets.
Also, what’s the chance Brown didn’t know there was another week of football this year?

Not sure where I thought NFL teams playing in the Meadowlands stayed, but I definitely wouldn't have guessed Newport Centre.

if it wasn't already clear, BO'B's a very successful NFL coach. is he a successful personnel guy? nope. but it's bizarre that he's automatically viewed as a bad coach by folks because of those failures with too much control despite posting winning seasons in five of the six full seasons he coached

They were also looking at Jim Caldwell as well, who is also a winning coach, but is similarly uninspiring (and possibly a Rooney Rule interview anyway).
It's understandable to go with someone stable and with head coaching experience after the Urban debacle, but it just seems like that route so seldom works out. Those guys are usually retreads for a reason.

NFL coach? Sure. He was undoubtably a key role in several successful Patriots seasons. NFL Head Coach? debatable. He was 52-48 RS 2-4 Playoffs. He did win 4 divisions in 5 years but he only really had to get by Indy those years and only in 2018 did Luck play a full season. He was also an analytics whipping boy for his 4th down decisions. Sadly I think he still may be considered one of the better candidates but I believe his HC ceiling is mediocre.Brontoburglar wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 12:47 pm if it wasn't already clear, BO'B's a very successful NFL coach. is he a successful personnel guy? nope. but it's bizarre that he's automatically viewed as a bad coach by folks because of those failures with too much control despite posting winning seasons in five of the six full seasons he coached

He was also terrible at challenges. He would not be able to decide whether to challenge or not so he'd call a timeout to think about it, and let his guys look it it longer. Then he would challenge and lose thus losing another timeout. If it's not clear and obvious, your guys could look at it for an hour and it's not going to be reversed.Rams Fanny wrote: ↑Fri Jan 07, 2022 1:58 pmNFL coach? Sure. Re: NFL Week 18 - the extra week
Mediocre is an improvement in most places. His Texans teams were solid from what I remember. You could just as easy look at Vrabel and assume he's a much better coach than OBrien based on his record but I think that would be wrong.

Re: NFL Week 18 - the extra week
so we've basically gone back to the point that he's a perfectly fine coach in that role
eta: it's impossible to say whether anyone will succeed in Jacksonville given the environment. but a team with a young No. 1 pick QB could do worse than the guy who helped develop Deshaun Watson and is the offensive coordinator for a Heisman winner in his first season as a starter on an offense that lost almost all its key skill position contributors to the NFL. ignoring that and his record and pretending he's a terrible NFL coach -- again, in that role -- because the end of his tenure went poorly after he got too much power is willful ignorance

Re: NFL Week 18 - the extra week
So Bill O'Brien is likely getting another HC job in the AFC South...
He had been really successful in Houston, with four division titles in 6 and a bit years. His only losing season involved DeShaun Watson getting an ACL injury early. I think he had been fired prior to Watson making some interesting personal choices during back rubs, but the personnel decisions around DeAndre Hopkins and the acquisition of a left tackle were huge mistakes.
I get him having another HC'ing opportunity, as I think he was a very good HC at Houston. I think looking at him in the AFC South is odd, as I think there is too much baggage around those personnel decisions.
If he goes to the Jags, I hope he gets to make all the personnel decisions (including trades), because he is a thunder cunt with those. If he is just getting the gig as a HC, then I think he'll do a great job...
