How about this sweet volley from the college ranks (UVA over Marquette in the NCAA tourney)?
Totally Kafkaesque
Re: The Great Goals thread
Not bad. Especially considering UVA played 89:03 of the game down a man (red card for a tackle from behind/last defender)Shirley wrote:How about this sweet volley from the college ranks (UVA over Marquette in the NCAA tourney)?

Paul Scholes montage...

Just thought I should mention that in my opinion, Scholes was a more of a creative influence within the team as opposed to a goal scorer. Which says quite a lot about his passing and vision...

Hakan Çalhanoğlu's 41-meter free-kick goal vs Dortmund.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?

Re: The Great Goals thread
Pretty sweet brace by Aron Johannsson. The first goal was some gorgeous work by his teammates, but his touch and rip into the roof of the net were great. The second? Messi has nothing on this composure and skill in the box. Seriously.

Re: The Great Goals thread
What makes the Dutch league such a goal scoring paradise for Americans? Beasley had a good run with PSV, Jozy, and now Johannsson. It does not seem to convert to other leagues (although DMB had a nice Champions League Run while at PSV).

Good question. It isn't just Americans. A lot of players with big goal totals in the Eredivisie seem to flop when they move to bigger leagues. No idea if it is on par with French Ligue 1 or other seconf tier leagues, but it certainly seems more prevalent.

St. Pauls of Baltimore v. Hill Academy or Canadia.
Re: The Great Goals thread
That's a hell of a shot. I'm not even sure why he shot behind the back, as he had an angle to fire it normally. Of course, this way the goalie never saw it, but with that placement, it may not have mattered.
I played St. Paul's in a JV tournament a couple (ahem) of years ago. They didn't beat us by a big score (it was something low, like 4-2 or 4-1), but they dominated the game.

The goal is nice, but the celebration! Wonder what Sheriff Roger would think of this. I know it seems like a bit much, but keep in mind, this is the Talinn Derby after all.

Friggin' Gareth Bale.
As a Spurs fan, I have missed him so much. Watching this, my reaction was the same as the play by play guy's.

Mix getting some PT and a nice finish in a Europa qualifier after having his butt on the bench in Brazil.
This is a Europa League qualification match and I think I have played in front of more fans in JV games (and fields where you can't run the track during the game....watch while taking your dog for a walk).
