Re: MLS 2022
Couldn't Colorado have found somewhere with milder weather to host this game?
Re: MLS 2022
Taking Portland at +2500 which is an utterly ridiculous line.
Re: MLS 2022
Would have been tacky to post about the Colorado penalty shootout while WWIII was breaking out, but man was that nuts. Miss after miss after miss. And hey, memo to USSF, the Central American team won in the snow (technically).
Re: MLS 2022
and now Concacaf introduced VAR....Colorado was bullying the end of that game. Chance after chance. Goalie made some great saves to ear that win.
Re: MLS 2022
Maximo Carrizo 14 years old is the newest member of NYCFC. Makes Adu's start look like a geezer. That is 2 14 year olds that NYCFC has signed.
Re: MLS 2022
Would have assumed Arena was already the winningest coach in MLS before this weekend (Sigi Schmidt held the record)
Re: MLS 2022
Oh and he did it. (Also should be noted that he's 34 yellows and 2 reds short of Beckerman.)
Re: MLS 2022
MLS teams enter USOC tonight. Some interesting lines on the boards. FC Cincinnati is -135 vs the Riverhounds and Inter Miami is only -115 vs FC Miami. I don't know anything about these USL teams but may flip some coins.

Re: MLS 2022
I know the ownership group (well, some of them) for FC Tulsa, so I'm in on them. Their twitter shows goal highlights and stuff, they must be excellent.
Hold on, I'm trying to see if Jack London ever gets this fire built or not.
Re: MLS 2022
Probably doesn't need to be part of your calculus, but I stayed in a hotel next to the Riverhounds stadium once and the view (right on the water, right across from downtown) was pretty great.
(that trip was the last time I was on a plane, huh)

I felt aswirl with warm secretions.
Re: MLS 2022
DC United is playing Flower City Union....my experience is the MLS teams go deep on the roster for these games. In fact in past years DC had guys with no names on their jerseys, are more frequently playing in Loudon United games, or even DC United Academy.
This is not the round with lots of upsets but next round....

Great opportunity to bleed some youngsters like Yedlin.

Need to get me one of them Fuck Ohio supporters scarf.
To quote both Bruce Prichard and Tony Schiavone, "Fuck Duff Meltzer."
Re: MLS 2022
Wow. DC Fires Losada. He was in his second year. Team was not spending but was playing a fun style under him. Strange. Guessing something crazy happened unrelated to on the field. Last year he still had most of Olsen's staff. He got rid of them this offseason.
Re: MLS 2022
Grant Wahl's podcast covered MLSNext today. Apparently Romeo Beckham is doing well with Inter Miami II and Desmond Armstrong's 2 kids are playing for St. Louis II.
Armstrong was one of my favorites. Besides being a great player, he was big during that athletic influential time in your life (Played for the Blast, coached me at soccer camp).

Re: MLS 2022
RSL lost to North Colorado Hailstorm FC, in their 4th game in existence. I dunno about the giant hail stones but I do like the Voodoo Ranger sponsorship.
Re: MLS 2022
Apparently DC and Bale are exchanging proposals.
Re: MLS 2022
Big F'ing match...small dog
Re: MLS 2022
2-2 after leg 1. I could not stay awake but did see the 1st PK for Pumas (and the retake because Frei jumped early). Feel like they need some modification. Basically you can't leave the 6 but as soon as the guy steps forward to kick you can come off the line. The only risk then is the no step PK takers.
Re: MLS 2022
I thought a foot has to be on the line when the ball is struck.

Re: MLS 2022
Yeah that was a shit call. Unfortunately I turned off the game in the ~55 minute to go to bed so missed the Sounders saving my wager.
Re: MLS 2022
It's a Big Game! ~68K in attendance. Lots of good nuggets in this article.

Re: MLS 2022
I could've maybe hunted down a better thread, but whatever.

Really interesting take down (IMO) of Friedel's failed tenure at NER. Both because I never really "liked" him for some reason and this kind of confirms it, but more holistically:
DCU let go of their manager who rankled a lot of the players in very similar fashion, trying to instill training, dietary restriction and others aspects of the European/Top Professional club tactics. There's a point where both managers probably went in to rigid and too fast. There's also something very telling and not very flattering of the professional attitudes of these players.
To me, there's a reason a guy like Brendon Aaronson is landing Leeds after a great run in his nascent career, where a lot of other guys have hit a ceiling while toiling in MLS. THIS is what a lot of us are talking about in terms why there's just more meat to the guys playing Europe than exists in the MLS pool. It's not just the on-field stuff... Like, at all.

Maybe but if you saw the Chris Seitz stuff after Losada was fired you may see a problem with his implementation of the dietary stuff.Nonlinear FC wrote: ↑Thu May 26, 2022 4:49 pm I could've maybe hunted down a better thread, but whatever.

Here is a companion to the cord cutting post with more emphasis on what it means for MLS.
I think the worldwide part of this is especially interesting, as is the simplified schedule with Wed/Sat night games only. As for the schedule, I guess I'll believe it when I see it. The only thing more unpredictable than an MLS schedule is guessing what specialty jerseys the teams will be wearing.

I'm not some big Apple-stan, but I think this is fucking brilliant.
One thing I'm reading... standardizing the days of the week these games are played is a really big issue... Wed and Sat are good night, but more important is just having all of this in one place and standardized is a pretty big issue.

Re: MLS 2022
Oh I agree. This is the kind of thing that MLS needs to do if it wants to raise its profile and play with the big boys, or at least near them. Apple’s baseball broadcasts are just beautiful visually. If they can do anything close to that for MLS, it’s going to be a completely different looking product. That and the worldwide reach.
I’ve read a fair amount of griping about the loss of local TV coverage. I have a somewhat different opinion about that. The local broadcasts are usually low budget and so heavily geared to the home team that it fails to sell the league. And that’s for people who can actually watch the local broadcasts, which is not a given with carriage fights and local blackouts. Apple ought to be able to swipe the better on air talent from those broadcasts and jack up the production value substantially. It is, at the very least, a chance worth taking.
