He is such a disgusting POS in sickens me. The ultimate karma would be his home state refusing to acknowledge his marriage because the Constitution doesn't specifically state interracial marriages must be recognized. I'm so angry.DaveInSeattle wrote: Fri Jun 24, 2022 10:18 am

Looking completely at a 5,000 foot view, millions of poor and middle-class women lost the right to choose to carry a pregnancy because a small handful of rich, white dudes wanted to keep the tax rate on dividends at 15% uncapped.

Re: Roe v Wade
Worse, it widens the rich/poor divide. Those that are rich and capable and choose to abort for example doing testing and finding out the baby has down syndrome and don't want it. They still will be able to by going to another state. That could be viewed as a selfish reason. My wife and I were grappling with this decision during pregnancy with the twins. They were small and we did testing. What if they had conditions? What would we do? Alberta allows abortion up to 24 weeks.L-Jam3 wrote: Fri Jun 24, 2022 11:12 am Looking completely at a 5,000 foot view, millions of poor and middle-class women lost the right to choose to carry a pregnancy because a small handful of rich, white dudes wanted to keep the tax rate on dividends at 15% uncapped.
But those that are poor, teenagers, single moms etc... that actually have life threatening conditions and need to abort. They wont be able to and mothers will die.

It'll be a thing that when Breighlynne, whose Dad is an oil executive in Houston, gets a bun in the oven from her bf, she'll take that weekend trip to NYC. Or maybe to Montreal if it gets that far.
Just remember that the only overarching goal for the Republican party is to keep rich people rich, and to prevent anyone else from joining that club. Every decision that party has made since Goldwater's Southern Strategy, every stance they have on an issue, is ultimately to flow upwards to that goal.

Just gotta donate more to incumbents and vote even harder. (Not in contested primaries, just the November election.)

For some of us, this is REALLY personal. I have kids for whom the current winds are problematic (understatement). I know what is coming next. I already fear for them based on the current rhetoric. I have begged the leftist members of my extended family for decades to look past their anger in casting meaningless protest votes because there are real world implications coming from the Christian dominionists who are now in charge. It's here. So if you have a fucking suggestion beyond fucking cynicism, I am all fucking ears. But, otherwise, yes, people need to keep fucking trying to vote, even if nothing appears to ever change. But there were lines worth trying to hold, and if you have some other way to hold them, let me fucking know.

Right? Don’t they know that when the oppression of poor and middle class goes to far, that’s when the guillotines come out?

If they come after an expanded group of people's rights, this country is going to implode. People are already there, having to watch Trump's fascism
unfolding for 5 years.

I hate the current state of affairs for you as much as anyone else I "know", but I'm not going to apologize for my cynicism, especially as directed towards the party in full control that responds to this ruling by singing a fucking song on the steps of the supreme court building. They're complicit far more than they're the future of getting this fixed. And as far as solutions, I'd say a bare minimum would be making public life completely unpleasant for the people ruining shit for half the country but the Dems pre-emptively made sure anyone who does is now at risk of arrest or worse.tennbengal wrote: Fri Jun 24, 2022 12:26 pmfwiw, and I do sympathize with your cynicism...fuck off mister d.

Or this for an even less emotional, more grounded reason to be furious "just vote!" is marched out every fucking time:

The Senate immediately convened when sidewalk chalk was used outside Collins' home.

I'm not sure what I side-stepped. Today's decision will have a massive impact on my family and I find any level of rallying around the leadership that's standing by as it happens infuriating. If they can't summon up the will to fight against the Republicans doing this, then they should be fought and replaced by people who will.

Re: Roe v Wade
I think that white Democrats are the ones less likely to put up a fight. Because Black and Hispanic MoCs seem a lot more ready for a fight, while the Boomer white leadership, namely Pelosi and Schumer, seem more likely to get rolled over.

Re: Roe v Wade
I said this when the majority opinion was "leaked" and feel so even more today. When you combine this decision with what the J6 (and eventually the DoJ uncovers and reports/indicts... The usual malaise that keeps the "ruling party" at home in midterms is not only nullified, it's going to massively increase turnout.
Young voters are pissed, and that's a huge block that tends to stay home in midterm elections.
