My cousin's kid plays today (right now) in the SW Regional final for Texast East (Houston-Pearland). Jake Zurek. He's gone 5 for 11 in the first 3 games with two doubles and a homer. He's leading off and playing short today.

Pearland's pitcher has been shaky in the bottom of the first and just now plunked a guy n the head with the bases loaded. Looks like the kid is ok, but he went down hard. Oh man, the pitcher is crying on the mound and the kid who was hit just walked off first to console him.

For many many years, this was a low-key background part of our trip down to the SC beaches with the kids.

Damn, now a kid on Texas East got plunked in the head. Looks like the helmet protected him more than the Oklahoma kid and he went to first without anyone checking him out. Cousin's kid is up with two on. TE down 4-3 in the top of the second.

Stuff like that kid hugging that pitcher are why this is such a great f'ing tournament. Every year you get at least half a dozen moments like that.

I especially like it when kids that don't speak each others languages have these moments.

That's awesome, Ched! Great move by that kid to get his face out of the way of that pitch. Really lucky how it caught the edge of his ear protector, looked like it was going straight for his eye.

Came up yesterday morning. This place is great.

I could do without the weather delays but all good otherwise.

First time up was 3 years ago. When they started on a Thursday and only got one game in because of rain. That Friday was non-stop action. Lot of fun.

Tough game for the Texans last night. Hawaii look a step above. My dude had a couple nice plays in the field, pitched a little in relief, but went O-fer at the plate. In fact, they were no hit until the 6th. Up again tonight against Iowa at 7 in the loser's bracket.

I watched that game and man Hawaii just really does seem a cut above. Their kids seem very fluid and the aggressive nature at the plate works out. Felt bad for your dude, but they still got a shot!
