Are you down at Bryce Canyon?
And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

Definitely would have gotten many more shots in if they did have the guys play at the 9-hole from "Swingers".

Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
There’s a new “interactive” rom-com on Netflix called Choose Love that was pretty silly but it’s based in LA and both name dropped and showed the observatory.
(we noticed it because the star used to be on a Disney show the kids watched and chose to watch because we wanted to see how the interactive part worked)

DirecTV gave us the "free weekend" of a bunch of movies, so I recorded this.rass wrote: ↑Tue Jun 07, 2022 8:42 pm (Also sorta want to watch that on a Swamp movie night so DSG can tell us how good a job they did with the LA geography, both in terms of whether where they went and how they got there made sense and if the sun shining in their faces early in the chase was consistently coming from the correct direction)

Directed by McG who also directed the Family Switch movie I just posted above. I guess he likes it, too.

Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
I'm flying to LA this week for work meetings. We're done on Friday at noon, but my flight doesn't leave until 10:10 PM. I think most other folks will be leaving earlier, so I think I'll have the afternoon to myself. I've never really spent any time in LA. Any suggestions for how to spend a few hours? My hotel is in Redondo Beach. Is the Griffith Observatory the place to go? Hollywood? Venice Beach?

Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
Venice Beach is a cool place to spend a few hours. Very unique vibe to the place and great for people watching. Tons of restaurants, and nice to walk around. At least it was 4 years ago. Lots of homeless and open drug use, and I felt a shift as the sun went down. Still stayed for dinner and walked back to my Marina del Rey hotel.Shirley wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 7:58 am I'm flying to LA this week for work meetings. Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
Will you have a car at your disposal or will you be using ride share app (there's not a whole lot of stuff in/near Redondo)? If the latter, what is your tolerance for spending?Shirley wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 7:58 am I'm flying to LA this week for work meetings. Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
No car. So, I was thinking I'd Uber somewhere. I'll have to check out of my room, so I'll probably have to leave my bag at the hotel, do my thing, and then come back here to get it before I head to the airport. I'm thinking a nice hike or walking option would be good. I'm in my room and can see Rancho Palos Verdes to my south. That looks nice. Good hikes there? Keep in mind, I didn't really pack properly for that. I'll just wear jeans and a light sweater.

Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
I would suggest just start looking at Palos Verdes Coastline Trail online and see what interests you in the area. There are some hikes along the beach, the bluffs overlooking the ocean, and a couple inland ones. I would guess the first two are flatter/less intensive hiking options.Shirley wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 6:30 pm No car. So, I was thinking I'd Uber somewhere. Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
I think I need to start assuming that when I don't understand a post around here, it's not that I'm missing some "inside joke" or something is going over my head and just ask WTF someone is trying to say. Because, I read this yesterday and thought it was the former and didn't want to ask.

Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
Watching The Truman Show and at some point they show the huge dome where the show takes place and it’s right in the middle of LA and they show the Hollywood sign as they zoom out and if I have my geography right I think the observatory could still exist in that world even if everything north for miles(?) is gone.

Re: The Griffith Observatory Thread
Not sure if I missed one earlier because there has been a lot of LA footage, but about 27 1/2 minutes into The Greatest Night in Pop there was a shot of it.
