Greetings, Swampers!
Apologies for being a long, long-time lurker w/out contributing. I felt I didn't have much to add, and my sports acumen is atrocious, to be honest. For many years, Dr HR (whom I met when he moved to SF with a high school friend of mine) regaled me with Swamp tales, and I eventually decided to dip my toes in and find out why he loved this place so much. So, it's been fantastic reading the discussions over the years, and I've come to feel that I *know* certain people because of that (which I realize is not always a smart move.)
A quick bio: failed artist, sometime musician. Lived in SF at the insistence of my-then partner, escaped to NYC right after the big quake in '89 (with a 2 month European detour, where I got to see the wall come down.) After 26 years in my beloved Brooklyn, my wife and I returned to Maine, where I went to college, and where most of our friends decamped. And so, greetings from *Vacationland*!
I'm still more likely to just follow threads rather than expose my sports ignorance, but I'll chime in just to prove that I can be taken to an occasional public event and not leave a turd in the punchbowl.

When was the last new “real” signup? It took some work to follow through all of the domain changes and whatnot so welcome! (Or more accurately not so much welcome but welcome to posting!)

Re: Greetings, Swampers!
Thanks all!
It's been a several years since I've seen The Doctor; he came to get his BMW out of my garage right before we moved. Unfortunately, the feral colony that we inherited in the backyard when buying the house in 2002 pretty much destroyed his bike. To be fair, I warned him that the cats were doing a number on his bike.
Speaking of motorcycles, he sold me his old Kawasaki (a GPZ 550, I think) that he referred to as the death bike. It did not kill me, but I had my first experience being in a hit-and-run by some knuckleheads in a pick up truck coming down Gough Street at a pretty good clip. This was immediately after the woman I was seeing informed me that she and I had better see a doctor, as the German Deadheads who stayed at her apartment brought plenty of crabs to go around.
ETA: I chose 'tank farm', as we have one at the end of our quiet little street. It's also the name of the basement recording studio I inherited from the previous owner.

Actually, I was ojo back when the Swamp had a front page. I think I had discovered this place through an RSS feed made available via Yahoo? I forget.rass wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 7:36 pmI hope he doesn’t take this the wrong way but for some reason Enoch was my first thought and of course he signed up almost 8 years ago and started posting regularly almost 7 years ago, so…brian wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 7:14 pm When was the last new “real” signup? It sounds like something I would’ve liked to argue from both sides of the coin, and considering how message boards could be back in the day, I probably did.sancarlos wrote: Mon Feb 27, 2023 9:28 pmYou were ojo? Welcome Tank, exciting to have a new posting member, hope you stick around. No need to worry about sports knowledge, I'm useless outside of soccer and fantasy football.

I think I knew that about Enoch. Ojo was the Swamper who sent me down the Whatif Sports rabbit hole for a few years.

Iirc, Reaper was here quite awhile ago, went dormant, then rejoined us. I think he also originally had a different handle.testuser2 wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 3:59 pm Welcome, Tank! I think Reaper joined after a long period of lurkerdom.

I loved WiS back then. Did I bring it to the board, or were there WiS players here first? I can't recall if it was me from here, or if it was an old (Phish) tour buddy who turned me onto it.bfj wrote: Tue Feb 28, 2023 3:39 pm I think I knew that about Enoch. All true things. Changed from the jhiphop handle to Reaper when this version was started because it was too close to former Swamper JPops, but then pretty much was gone for 10 years until the pandemic hit.
How do you all get your death notices since I left?
