RushianRoulette wrote:Is there a method of having the title of the thread go to the last page of the discussion?
I know that there are little page numbers to click on, but I'm a title clickin' man and not knowing how threads with 20+ pages are displayed it might be nipping a future problem in the bud.
There is a way to code that, sure. But I'm not going to do it; it doesn't make any sense. Threads are 40 posts long now, there is simply no need for that. The "view latest post" button/link will take you to the most recent post anyway. Having the thread title go anywhere BUT page one would surely annoy the fuck out of everybody else, eh.
And if it is not a current problem (it isn't), I simply do not see any way it could become a "future problem". Not at all.
Why don't you just change your personal settings? User Control Panel > Board Preferences > Edit Display Options > Display topic order direction: > Ascending.

I agree with the sentiment but I think that 200 x 200 gets the job done. I mean look at that beautiful Amway logo!
maybe a short trial run with 250 x 250 or something like that.

Is that 200 x 200? My bad, I didn't realize that. That is certainly large enough, in my opinion. I'm just against the postage stamp avatars that we had in the olde nu old Swamp (I think you all know what I mean).

George Saunders can move mountains. Read his new book as soon as you can.
Done. Finished it a few weeks ago. Really solid collection. I liked Semplica girls and Puppy best, with Home a close third. Escape from Spiderhead strong as well. Really there was only one story in the whole collection that was sub-par: Al Roosten. It was ok, but nothing as good as the rest.

I'm reading all of his stuff now, so I'm going to want to revisit this later. Don't want to threadjack this thread anymore than it's been, um, jacked. Whenever the Swamp is fully functional, and whenever I have time for more than just drive-by Swamping, we can start a new thread. Anyway, glad to hear that there's another fan here.
More on topic, I'll just say that I'm happy to have something approaching a Swamp again. Kudos to Scottie. phpBB feels like an old t-shirt with just the right cotton/poly ratio.
I've purchased the new Saunders, but haven't read it yet. Good stuff?
OH GOD YES! The NYTimes ran a feature about him a while back called 'George Saunders Has Written the Best Book That You Will Read This Year.' It's true. It's damn true.
And yes, this is bapo. Who else here would geek out over a short-story writer?
I have nothing Swamp-related to get us back on-topic. Sorry.
Oh, I just realized that I have up to 60,000 characters to use per post. Wasn't vBulletin 10,000? I remember having to break up posts a few times to get them to fit. 60,000 is roomy.

Perfectly said. If I could make love to this new Swamp, I would. She is that beautiful.

Yeah. I set it at 60,000 because I recall it was an issue a number of times where guys would post something lengthy and vBulletin would "forbid" the post as exceeding character max. So I figured 60,000 would be more than enough room. Minimum character is now "1". And I took the limits off of image number per post, too. For example, when I was posting Junior hockey photos from games I attended, vBulletin would restrict me to three per post. And that was annoying.

Not trying to nitpick, but should the minimum characters be "0". In case we want to make a post that is just an image? (Or does minimum characters include the PhpBB code to embed the image?)

"1" is the minimum. PhpBB3 won't let the setting go any lower than that.
I don't believe an image counts as a character. Try it out! But I believe one must have at least "1" stand-alone character outside of tags.

I think I did it earlier. Let me try here. In any event, if it is the same setting it has been all along it should be fine.

You're most welcome. I hope you guys are enjoying our new home. It won't be much longer before we can all register with our traditional names and get back to business proper.

I'm one boneheaded step ahead of you.

It might not matter. I just suggested using "test" names as a precaution to avoid any conflicts when merging databases. It may not matter at all. Still a fair bit of unknown with the existing databases. It looks like vBulletin's software tweaked everything to suit itself; every table. Remember how after the "upgrade" there was just one lone page and over a few hours it repopulated the rest of the older threads? It was customizing the database to suit that ever-so-fucking-brilliant vb5 software. Right now I'm trying to figure out how to undo all of that.

As soon as I read this, I figured out the poster was Bapo. It's the writing style.

That was the reason for the cancellation of the Swampcrash pregame extravaganza with Boomer and Tom Jackson, featuring ED ORGERON GRAHHHHHHHHHH.

Not sure if this has already been tested/mentioned, but I just was just able to successfully edit the subject of a thread that I had previously created and posted. Not sure if this is worth mentioning, but I figured that I'd pass that along.
Had a weird experience earlier today while Swamping whereby I couldn't use most of my punctuation keys (ie, if I tried to type ? I ended up with that capital E with the accent on top). At first I thought it was my shitty computer, but typing in other browser windows, MS Word, MS Excel, etc. all worked fine. It just occurred when I was trying to type something in the Swamp message field. I went through my user options, and everything seemed to be fine. Tried logging out and back in, didn't work. Wasn't a huge deal, as a workaround I just ended up typing posts in a blank email and copy-pasting them into the Swamp field. Anyways, later in the day it started working fine again and is still ok.
It's probably something on my end and I highly doubt that it was the Swamp acting up, but I thought that I'd let you know just in case it's happened to others. I'm sure there's no need to waste time trying to look into it unless others have had similar problems.
That's the language setting on your keyboard. And you can accidentally invoke it by just typing away but hitting the keystroke combination that changes your keyboard from English to (what sounds like, in your case) French.
Go to your Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings > Formats
Make sure that the language you have selected is English.
Then, also on the Regional and Language Settings, go to the Keyboards and Language tab > Change keyboards > General. Again, make sure English is selected. Then on the Advanced Key Settings, select "none" for any "key sequence".
I had that problem a couple of years ago. Drove me nuts. That fixed it.
In any case, thanks for taking the time to give a detailed explanation since I know you are probably very swamped (ha) with various Swamp-related coding. Very much appreciated.
