Really enjoying talking to my kid in the parlance of the youth and watching his eyes roll every time. "it do be facts tho" is my current favorite groan inducing phrase.

Made me think of this: KEXP Exclusive Interview: Sub Pop CEO Megan Jasper on The Grunge Hoax of Greatness
More importantly, it was on this day in history that the "grunge speak" hoax is bought hook, line, and sinker by a reporter from the New York Times after Megan Jasper, a receptionist at the time for Sub Pop Records (now their CEO!), makes up a list of fake slang terms. Under pressure from the writer who wanted to know if grunge fans had their own slang, Jasper shared a set of slang terms that she claimed were associated with the scene in the early 1990s, but which she had, in fact, invented on the spot. The information given by Jasper appeared in the sidebar of a feature article by reporter Rick Marin in The New York Times, revealing him to be the lamestain in the tom-tom club. Listen below and read excerpts from a chat with Jasper and KEXP's Morning Show host John Richards as they swing on the flippity-flop and remember this score.

WACK SLACKS: Old ripped jeans
FUZZ: Heavy wool sweaters
PLATS: Platform shoes
KICKERS: Heavy boots
SWINGIN' ON THE FLIPPITY-FLOP: Hanging out
BOUND-AND-HAGGED: Staying home on Friday or Saturday night
SCORE: Great
HARSH REALM: Bummer
COB NOBBLER: Loser
DISH: Desirable guy
BLOATED, BIG BAG OF BLOATATION: Drunk
LAMESTAIN: Uncool person
TOM-TOM CLUB: Uncool outsiders
ROCK ON: A happy goodbye

At this point when will airlines just start charging for overhead space? Shit, why not make the whole plane standing room only.

I swear they keep adding more and more groups but not space for your carry on. Why even have carry-ons at all?

I literally pack as light as I can because my luggage has been lost before and if my carry-on gets lost, I'm fucked. I hate it.

Edit

.......aaaaaaaand I didn't have to check my bag at all. Plenty of overhead space when I got to my row. Thanks, ticket counter, for the lies.

they do charge for overhead tho don't they? Just "in reverse" by offering so-called discount fares for just a "personal item."

e.g. i took a flight to LAX two weeks ago, great fare but that's because i got the "Blue Basic" (JetBlue) fare which did not allow - and oh how they loved to constantly remind me - any carry-on bags, just a personal item that can fit under the seat.

Doing the no shave november thing. I would never make it in the apocalypse because I'm about to die. I usually have facial hair but this is annoying as shit on my neck. And yes, I am a grown man and I could have shaved at any time for any reason. But then you wouldn't have gotten to read this post. You're welcome.

I guess I qualify as an old now, because I almost always do the gate check thing. I'm almost always in the last group to board, and I hate stressing out about finding space in the overhead bin, and I'm never in that big of a hurry when I get somewhere so waiting 10 minutes at baggage claim isn't that big of a deal for me.

Not the Big 4....yet. Sounds like JetBlue does the RyanAir thing of treating anything you aren't wearing as excess and making you pay exorbitantly if you forget.

Took kid to doc yesterday and trainee stood in the corner. Hands clasped. Said nothing. Ok. To be expected. The jr doc(?) seemed pretty normal asked good questions and did some doctorish stuff. Solid. She said going to get the real doc who comes in and says he's been briefed and that he cant help... Its really a medical issue. Said it three times. It's a medical problem. Looked at him like he was insane and he just smiled. Can't figure out who would let this man do his non medical stuff on their body.

omg absolutely. i flew to southern california for a very quick 3 day stay at a place that had a washing machine so i was able to bring literally a backpack which is completely undoable in just about every other scenario. it's pretty absurd to charge for carry ons

(having said that my roundtrip BUF-LAX direct flight was only ~$210 which is insanely cheap so i'd have just bought underwear if i needed to...)

In Portland (Broadway(?) Marriott)!

I would only carry-on for work so if I was staying over a weekend I had to do laundry. Wasn’t bad at all.

And despite every parent complaining every year, the team still issued white gameday shorts. At least the coach opted for the black shorts on rainy days.

My dad still hasn't fixed the typo in the phonebook that misspells his name, Brian as Brain. Well, it's only been 40 years.

He's proud of it. That's eulogy stuff when you think about it.
