Re: To the extent it comes up: Trump crap post-WH years
From everything I'm hearing, Trump plans on using the RNC coffers to pay the judgments against him. In one way, it makes me sick that he is never held accountable for a lifetime of fraud and being the shittiest person, but in another way, that has to seriously hurt GOP candidates at every level, right? That's a huge chunk of change! There have to be some Republicans who would ordinarily donate to the RNC, but won't now because they don't want to pay Trump's legal fees and judgments. I saw that there is a GoFundMe set up to collect, which raised $500k in the first 3 days. Just a drop in the bucket, but that's $500k that may have otherwise been spent on campaign donations to Trump or other MAGA candidates. I'd love to know who sends money to these things. My guess is morons who likely can't afford it, paying a self proclaimed billionaire who brags that he doesn't need campaign contributions while constantly asking for money.

Doesn’t sound legal at all and yes this is a naive thing to say.

There have been rumblings about Trump fundraising being fraudulent for many years. I think they send out those emails with just enough of a tether to "truth" that they are probably not criminal, but, man... "They are out to get me!! Please give me money so I can return to the White House and beat back the Deep State that is trying to throw poor little old me in jail!"The Sybian wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2024 12:48 pmWith Lara Trump as the RNC Chair, I'm sure she will act in the best interest of the Party.P.D.X. wrote: Tue Feb 20, 2024 12:17 pm Doesn’t sound legal at all and yes this is a naive thing to say.
And then using that money to pay off legal fees and debts?
Very very borderline in terms of soliciting money for one thing and using it for another.

Not exactly what we were talking about, but certainly certainly nice to see some accountability.

I would think that if Trump used RNC money to pay off judgments against him, at a minimum that would have to be reported as taxable income.Nonlinear FC wrote: Fri Feb 23, 2024 10:26 amThere have been rumblings about Trump fundraising being fraudulent for many years. Whatever criticism you want to level at the various enforcement bodies and legal jurisdictions I don't think you can accuse them of not going after Trump. He's looking at two civil trials and four criminal trials in a 12-month span.tennbengal wrote: Fri Feb 23, 2024 5:27 pm And if he doesn’t?

That prompts a longer discussion of what law is. Enforcing judgments used to be a part of the equation that no one gave a second thought to. Which is to say, a legal body has no more authority than that which it is able to enforce. If a judge sentences a person to ten years in jail, say, and then the person walks out of the courthouse and never goes to jail because the means to enforce the judgment don’t apply, does it matter that a prosecutor went after the person?

Can you clarify about enforcing judgments? There’s nothing to stop the judgments being enforced, other than posting huge bonds.tennbengal wrote: Sat Feb 24, 2024 6:01 amThat prompts a longer discussion of what law is. Not sure phone response works -
Jury finds guilty - judge sentences to 10 years prison -
And…
If no one actually can or will actually imprison said person for the sentence what does it matter that someone “went after” said person.

Basically, Alito and Thomas are going to retire in Trump's potential next term so they are trying their best to make sure he gets elected.
And fuck Mitch McConnell too.

Yeah, this is really shitty. Somehow these guys managed to put Bush in the White House in only three days - but this new case has to take months? WTF.

I knew she'd been mentioned somewhere here in the past - I'm right now in a live SBA chat with Rep. Crockett; she's giving a talk about (obviously) small businesses, and strategies for black entrepreneurs to access capital etc.
Putting aside the important takeaways from this presentation (really laying out the realities about the difficulties black business owners have that white america doesn't, specific strategies, how to have the government agency assist local industry, etc etc) ... um Syb you and I are going to have to have a duel here.
