I love you, Dad

Post by L-Jam3 »

I view this as God calling a good man home. My father, the rock and North Star of my family, passed away last night. It was an amazing run of 85 years, and I'm blessed that I've had him as my dad for over 49 years. We had to make an excruciating decision to stop life-support, but I'm comforted that his bride of 55 years, his three sons, his oldest granddaughter, and his favorite daughter-in-law, were at his side. We played a run of Sinatra to put him to his rest. He went at 8:32 last night; I'd like to think that the Maxey 3-ball to tie and Brunson's slip up in OT had an extra hand influencing it. Either that, or God just said "fuck the Knicks". Either one makes me smile. It was still on my Spotify when I drove back, and when I pulled into my driveway "Young at Heart" was finishing up, so that seemed like a good omen too.

I'm not at all a crier. I didn't cry when my sister died from an overdose 5 years ago. It's not that I don't feel the pain. I do. I just tend to internalize it. And I didn't cry at all last night, or when they gave him Last Rites on Sunday. But I finally did a little just now when I was posting my Instagram. I'm at my parents' (I'm not ready to change that term yet), and I'm the only one here with my brother's pup, so I was a had a chance to let out a little moist eyes.

Sorry for your loss. It's never easy, the hurt never really goes away, but it gets easier. Cold comfort now, of course.

And his one problem is he didn’t go to Russia that night because he had extracurricular activities, and they froze to death.

My condolences, man. Losing your father is tough. It'll be 20 years this September for me. You just have to keep your memories of him strong in your mind and heart and he'll always be around.

So sorry for your loss L-Jam. Glad that you and your close family were with him when he walked across that bridge.

Lost my dad almost 20 years ago. Saddened the most that he never got to meet my wife or my kids, glad my mom is still going as strong as she is (she turned 90 in Feburary.)

Man, I'm sorry to hear that, man. It's great that his family was around at the end though. I think that's all we can hope for - that our family loves and cares enough to be there.
