For the 4th of July holiday, we had the GF's daughter Robin and her BF Tyler, and his parents (Tom and Petra...he's a retired Delta pilot, she's a senior Delta flight attendant who's originally from Germany) come into town. They didn't stay with us (they rented a VRBO) but we spent a LOT of time with them.
  • 7 straight days of socializing is too much. I finally had to tap out on Saturday afternoon because I needed a break.
  • They are a lot more conservative/religious than us. We were told not to talk politics with them, and we stuck to it, although he wasn't as rigorous about that. He was really curious one night about Caity doing ultrasounds on Trans patients and what she calls them. Her answer: "I call them whatever they want me to".
  • We were playing an old copy of "Apples to Apples" at their VRBO one night, and the Petra was the Judge and put out the card "Phony" and I put down the "Rush Limbaugh" card. She looked at it and said "Well...Rush wasn't a phony". I kept my mouth shut.
  • They have been divorced for a while (not sure how long) but it sure seems to me like they still spend a lot of time together. I am really curious about their relationship, but its not like I can ask Tyler "they still fucking, right?"

One of our friends has a saying that is roughly "houseguests are like fish... After 3 days, they need to get thrown out." (or something like that.)

My amended rule is 2 nights, but depending on compatibility 3 nights can work.

Like you said, even with good couple friends, you just need some space and when you're locked into being with the same folks... Yeah, 7 days with relatively random folks? Waaaaay too long.

Yeah. After a couple of days, even a good fish starts to stink.

Our good friends from Scotland are staying with us for 10 days in November. I hope we’re still friends by the time they depart.

I hear ya....thankfully they weren't staying with us, but we had this schedule:

Sunday - Dinner at our place (me cooking)
Monday - Dinner at Caity's Ex's place
Tuesday - Dinner at their VRBO
Wednesday - Dinner at our place (me cooking again)
Thursday (4th of July) - Visiting the Ballard Locks, long walk out to the sound, lunch, and then dinner & Fireworks at their VRBO
Friday - Dinner and then Mariners Game. The future in-laws (proposal is imminent I was told) left for their flight back to Minneapolis from the game.
Saturday night - Dinner at Caity's Ex's again.

All of those included Caity's Ex as well. He's a nice enough guy, but I told her Saturday night on the way home that I really don't need to spend 7 straight evenings with her Ex. And she agreed.

What percentage of people do you think were praying someone would suggest a night off but not wanting to be the ones to suggest it? 100%?

This! I think when it was dinner at the Ex's, that's your cue to take a night off. I would also think it'd be normal for the visiting couple to go on a day trip on their own, with or without the kids, to get some separation.

The dinner at the Ex's has the added complication of also involved Caity's other daughter Kelsey, who's autistic. I generally go along to help out with her. There have been times when Robin's been in town and its just going to be the 3 of them, without Kelsey, and I'll take a pass.

Oh wait...there's more...

I forgot that during the M's game, Tom (the retired ex-pilot) leaned over and said "I've been working on something for my journal...you should read it" and held out his phone. I said "well...I'm watching the game, but send it to me and I'll read it later". I'd forgotten about it until just now...its a religious thing (I made it to "Heavenly Father" and said NOPE).

And we were driving somewhere, and we saw a CyberTruck on the road, and Caity started saying how ridiculous it looked...and he said "You really think so? I have one on order...".

The CyberTruck thing might have been fucking with us (he has that "taking the piss" kind of personality), but he was in the backseat so I couldn't see his face to see if he was being serious or not.

The Religious thing though...absolutely serious.

Want to laugh at a Cyber Truck story? I know you do:

I know this person. She's had orders to Germany since like April. She bought the thing in May.

Even created a fucking Instagram account for it!

.... And she never did her research on bringing it to Germany. Hilarious.

The comments really go in on her.

That's hilarious...

Here's another CyberTruck story...Drew Magary rented one on Turo for a day.

I drove a Cybertruck around SF because I am a smart, cool alpha male
That’s because the exterior of the Cybertruck is ugly. You might have deduced this merely from looking at pictures of Elon’s beloved car online, but I assure you that seeing the truck in person won’t change your mind. This car is all hard angles and even harder steel, with exterior panels that are often off in alignment. It’s a loud car, which is by design. Anyone who buys a Cybertruck, or any journalist who rents one as a stunt, is doing so for the attention. That included the gentleman who rented it to me, who once worked for Tesla and was surprised (and seemingly displeased) that the people taking his car out for a joyride worked for the press. He suspected we were going to say mean s—t about Elon, and he was right. Elon Musk is a penis.

I mean, not to be a dick, but if you've ever been to NYC, especially in the summer... Pretty infamously don't do garbage/recycling cans.

I'm sure there's a way to blame the mafia for this, somehow.

Well, obviously. It's a lot easier to hide the body of a rat under a pile of bags. If everyone started using garbage cans then you have to chop them up and dispose of them in the right bins... It's just a hassle.

I made some homemade orgeat about six weeks ago and finished it off earlier this week. It was perfectly fine.

Invented a new drink I'm sure lots of people have invented before and maybe have even named by now:
  • 6 ounces cold brew concentrate (homemade, so not the super-strength syrup stuff)
  • 6 ounces sparkling water
  • 3/4 - 1 ounce orgeat

Driver's Ed these days should force people to watch those Facebook videos showing those dipshits.

I had a guy speed up and nearly force me into a concrete barrier because he didn't understand the merge rules on that road. Complying with the zipper effect (and in a normal merge situation, not cutting to the front of the line using a lane that is not officially merging with the other) and this guy just decides to speed up at the last minute and then give me a dirty look when I had to slam on my breaks instead of hitting barrier or him. So I was behind him for about a mile (at a safe distance and not driving like an idiot or anything) alternating between the jerf off motion and the finger, and really wanted to just follow him to his house. I wouldn't do anything but drive by reaaaaaallllllyyyy slow, maybe do that two fingers to my eyes then to his eyes thing, and then drive off. But I took a right to go buy lotto.

I've been creating user accounts for all the new students. We use first three letters last name. One is named Maddy Dicks. I wasn't going to put that on the girl. I used her full name.

She came up with a friend to get some login help and her friend made the mad dicks joke.
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
