They don't invent formats in the Olympics, it's not about putting any two people together. There needs to be an established format and qualification. Unless LIV or someone else starts doing regular mixed doubles, it's not coming.

for example curling, they had normal curling for 5 olympics (1998 to 2014). During that time, mixed doubles started gaining traction and open qualification for the olympics was introduced in 2018

Sorry Degen but B.S.
In Los Angeles they will have Lacrosse in the Olympics. They invented "sixes" so they could have lacrosse in the Olympics. Only reason that version of the game was introduced. Basically, optimized for small roster, could play in an existing venue with nearly identical rules for each gender.

That's true. The World Lacrosse federation has invented Sixes since 2018 with an eye on olympic participation. There is a tour and competitions.

Mixed doubles golf does not exist. The pga and lpga are two separate entities. Golf would need to somehow invent it now, have regular players playing it, to get it in

There is no tour. They played one international competition at the JV Olympic thing in Birmingham. The PLL sixes event in VA the last two winters were modified rules. The World Lacrosse tour events were jokes. Not A teams playing but just people in national team uniforms.

Bev Priestman suspended for the opener and two assistant coaches banned for the entire Olympics and sent home. Great job on casting a terrible pall on the Olympics, Canada. Turns out it was separate two drone incidents, not just one.

"The Canadian Olympic Committee says women's soccer assistant coach Jasmine Mander and Canada Soccer analyst Joseph Lombardi have been removed from the Canadian Olympic team and sent home after two drone incidents at the Paris Games.

The COC also says it has accepted the decision of head coach Bev Priestman to remove herself from coaching the team's opening game against New Zealand on Thursday.

The committee statement comes after a review of a drone incident in Saint-Etienne, France on Monday and a second drone incident at a New Zealand practice last Friday.

The COC also says that Canada Soccer staff will undergo mandatory ethics training."
Mandatory ethics training - Maybe they hired someone from the Astros.

So I learned watching this URU-Fiji match. The guy on Uruguay was speeding towards the end zone corner, so he leapt to attempt to get his try on the ground. (It was confirmed as successful on replay). The pylons are about 5 feet tall, but my football instincts came out and said "just touch the rock to the pylon". So no, the pylons aren't part of the end zone in rugby, at least in terms of completing the try.

I've also become a fan of the trash-talking way of when a guy gets a breakaway and walks in, he just chills for a second, and waits to touch the ball to the ground to enact the score. I get it's so the PAT (I don't know the proper term) can be situated more centrally, but it just reminds of a dude stopping on the one when he blows the coverage, and then just moonwalks a step backwards.

Canada are the defending champs.

We're back to FIFA timing, Argentina ties it up at 2-2 at 90+16. But it's being reviewed for offside.
Amazing that nobody was offside after 2-3 rebounds. The Moroccan defender sprinted back to the goal line putting everyone onside.

When we vacationed in Scotland a couple years ago, my Scottish buddy took me to a local rugby sevens tournament. Short games all day long among half a dozen different teams from towns in the Scottish borders and Edinburgh. Great action, fun time, lots of beer.

They really need to get a handle on the clock issue. Everything I'm seeing is baffled by the 15 minutes.

The fix I'd like to see is that inside the last 15 minutes of the game, anytime the game is stopped for any reason, the ref signals a stoppage of the clock. They can still add time for stuff that happened prior to the last 15, but the clock runs up to that last second and then it's blown for game over.

Pretty much, though they don't stop the clock when the ball goes out of bounds and it turns the ends of a lot of games into teams just booting the ball 60 yards out of play and hoping the ball person is slow on the draw.

How can you tell what color the US is in....the giant bus they are parking makes it hard to see them (actually the camera has done a nice job showing the defensive discipline from the US. Especially with a very strong French team.

Pretty unlucky scoreline here. I don’t think the USA had any really bad moments except for the defending on the 3rd goal (which also would have been ruled a foul if the USA was attacking and France defending).
