I bet what was scary was the weird merging of limbs and the off putting skin of the dad.

I, too, thought The Breakup Song was under a different name... I would've said They Don't Write Em Like That if I'd been forced to come up with something.

Same. And of course our cynical response was “yeah, now they write them like this.”

Jack Russell (Great White singer, not dog); just a month after announcing retirement because of Lewy Body Dementia.

I actually liked their album Hooked (the one after Once Bitten Twice Shy)...takes me back to high school.

I remember thinking that they were just another joke Hair-Metal band, like Poison...but their MTV Unplugged session was really eye-opening.

Here's them doing a great version of Zeppelin's "I'm Going To Leave You".

I enjoyed the chapter of Chuck Klosterman’s Killing yourself to live where he talked about the deadly fire in Rhode Island at a Great White show, including comments from Jack Russell.

I'm with DiS on both Great White and Poison. And the rest of the hair metal bands.

That said, that was a good rendition up there. (And it shows the distance between Zeppelin and the hair bands. A spot-on cover of a second-tier Zep song is the best thing Great White ever did.)

Thanks for the back up...I was looking for the acoustic version of "Once Bitten...Twice Shy" from that same unplugged show. I remember it being really good.

I did find the official MTV video for it...and I remember how hot I thought the girls were in it...Ahh, big hair girls from the late 80's...

Just for the record, I thought Great White’s version of Once Bitten, Twice Shy was a weak cover of the classic Ian Hunter original.

Alain Delon was a giant of French films in the 60s and 70s. I would highly recommend you check out the very stylish French crime film Le Samourai. You’ll dig it, once you get used to sub-titles.

He was huge in 1970s Vietnam all the girls swooned. My mom skipped school to go see his movies.

He was the standard, part of lexicon. If someone guy was trying to act cool or a bit too western someone would say, "Who do you think you are? Alain Delon?"

He also dabbled in Hollywood, he's the bad guy in Red Sun, with Charles Bronson, Ursella Andress and Toshiro Mifune!

His English interview in the Dick Cavett Show

I absolutely would've bet he had already passed. I think that's a function of watching him during daytime TV with a full head of grey hair when I was a kid.

So he was in his late 40s or early 50s when I saw him on tv… crazy! I would have said 60s for sure.

I remember Sparky Anderson saying that he thought it was great that he went gray in his 30s. He said people saw him in his 50s and said, “you haven’t changed a bit!”

I kept seeing alerts from Bands in Town that it had been rescheduled. Hadn't listened to him in a while, but he had some great songs, including a fantastic cover of Can't Hardly Wait by the Mats.
Damn...too young....

Great appearance on Letterman...with a young (and doughy) Jason Isbell on lead.

I sometimes read a bit too much in to lyrics, but I don't think anyone would say Isbell isn't a careful songwriter. Which is why I think that the song "When we were close" - which is apparently in homage to JTE - is actually Isbell working up the courage to call out JTE and amanda for potential dalliances. The bridge verse:

It's not up to me to forgive you
For the nights that your love had to live through
Now you'll never need to look me in the eye

makes me think he's saying that to either JTE or Amanda and the marriage troubles with Isbell/Shires in the documentary makes me think those words were pointed.

It would be like a reprise of the Guy &Susanna Clark/Townes Van Zandt stuff. Guy said Susanna, despite being his wife, was soulmates with Townes. And I know Shires and JTE were close.

Sergei Mnatsakanov. Sadly will most remembered for being permanently injured in the limo crash that ended Vladimir Konstantinov’s career and left him with permanent brain injuries.
The Detroit Red Wings are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov. Sergei was a member of the 1997 Stanley Cup Championship team that brought the first Stanley Cup to Hockeytown in 42 years.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to his wife, Elena and his two sons, Art and Max.
