We went to a wedding in Watford, England in 2022. An all-day affair with much drinking. At the very end, the deejay played “Don’t look back in anger”, and what remained of the crowd all drunkenly sang along and swayed together locked in a big circle on the dance floor, surrounding the couple as they had the last dance. It was pretty cool.
That's pretty great.
We did that at our wedding to Piano Man, coming up on 20 years ago.

I just scrolled back to see if this has been discussed here...but how many Original members need to be in a band to be able to say you saw that band?

My GF and a bunch of her friends went to see Chicago and Earth, Wind, and Fire last night. She told me that she didn't think any of the original members of EWF were in the band and I said "Wouldn't that make them an EWF cover band?", so we looked it up...2 guys (the bassist and the percussionist) were original members. Chicago had 3 original members playing last night.

So what's the threshold?

You need at least some of the recognizable “main guys” from a classic lineup to be there.

I've had this discussion before as well - I think "Foreigner" rolled through NYS at some point this year and it may have just been the bass player left.

I play bass on occasion. With a few exceptions, a bass player is like an umpire - if nobody notices you you've done a fine job.

I say at minimum you need the original singer OR guitar player depending on the act.

Geddy Lee would never...

But I agree that you have to have a main player left around and bonus points if it's the primary songwriter, even if he just plays bass (I see you, geddy!).

In my defense I went both ways.

Would love to slap da bass with Max sometimes (i don't play bass and only play acoustic!)

Lots of factors; what percentage are still there, do normal people know zero names / the lead singer only / other band members, why are the members who aren't there not there, etc, etc. In general, if a band exists but there's a way they could more exist, you haven't seen the band. Like I saw Cypress Hill when Sen Dog wasn't there so it doesn't feel like I really saw them. Dave Matthews Band only has 3 of 5 original members but if you saw them tomorrow it would count. I will now list out every band in the world, whether they count right now and what adjusted factors would change my answer.

That's likely the just north of downtown Asheville one that I'm thinking of. There's usually a guy with a guitar and amp outside.

Last night was the first time I’ve been to the WELLS FARGO center and I get that there are other considerations for these fucking teams and owners but that place is obviously in a great location and is beautiful inside and seems to be in great shape and has plenty of boxes so WTF do the Sixers want to move to Camden or raze half of Chinatown?

Back around 96, Comcast bought the 76ers and Flyers. Built the new arena and it made sense. Eventually, the 76ers were sold. New owners were plentiful but led by Harris Blitzer crew.

They don’t like being a tenant and know real money comes from owning your building and the various events that can fill a new building.

Pretty sure that’s why there hasn’t yet been a push to get a WNBA in Philly.

Current owners moved the practice facility from a medical university on the edge of the city to a state of the art facility in Camden.

They got so petty about things that their court showed the arena sponsors name in small white font so as not to be pronounced.

Long story short, they’ve been angling at a move for some time and had to let their lease run its course.

The area where they are proposing the new arena is in downtown which would be a nightmare for folks driving in. But it sits on top of the regional rail system and a subway. Would be ideal for folks commuting in by rail.

Plus that area has been a bit if a shit hole for years. Jefferson has expanded their footprint and there has been some nice development going on in the general area. But Market East is still a shit show for the most part. Sits adjacent to the most historic section in the country (Independence Hall). Generally a broken window for folks that stay in hotels and walk towards the historic area.

Chinatown is also adjacent to the property. They’ve fought against the Phillies stadium moving downtown. I am not sure how this whole thing shakes out. I think it goes in and this Camden threat is just part of the game. For those that don’t know, Camden sits directly across the river from down town Philly. So its not like they would be moving a great distance.

With all that said, if they get the arena, I could see them getting a WNBA team and the arena would be a win for the area. Just have to see what concessions need to be made for the local areas.

One other point. The Wells Fargo just finished up a multi year rehab and it looks great inside for a building going on 30 years old.

Also, the Flyers and Phillies have committed to some significant development in that area and renderings look great.

We’ll see how it all pans out. But the 76ers will not be in that building for too much longer.

I missed the subtly of the arena ownership situation. Still greedy, hope they end up in Camden.

And maybe it was just a good evening but I had no problem last night. Even drove farther down the turnpike than Waze wanted me to in order to hit a deli in Bellmawr and it was less than 15 minutes between paying for our hoagies and parking in a lot near CBP.

Ok, I didn't type more later. And the part that I didn't type led to...I saw Green Day in LA again on Saturday at SoFi. A new top 1 concert experience. Long story really, will maybe use this thread at some point to update a few things in personal life - been back with Jen since April.

But, on topic, holy hell what a show. And, given that Green Day has been on the scene and was just breaking through when Jen and I met, seeing them has been a pretty amazing/weird time capsule - they are playing Dookie and American Idiot in their entireties on this tour (and a few others of their catelogue) and it is the 30 year anniversary of Dookie and 20 year anniversary of American Idiot and kinda unreal how that is in step with our years together.

It is crazy how good Green Day sounds - literally - can't tell any difference from what they sounded like in their 20s in terms of vocals and the rest of it. What an ungodly good experience. We were on the floor in SoFi - will see if I can get a few of the videos uploaded on here. There were 70,000 there - never will forget those scenes. Only regret is apparently Serena Williams was not too far from us in the standing room section in front of the stage and I didn't see her. That would have been a cool sighting.

Also, the Linda Lindas were one of the three openers and that is worth its own longer note - will write more on that shortly. Also Rancid and Smashing Pumpkins - both excellent - surprisingly Pumpkins still quite good -Corgan not mailing this in at all on this tour.

They did, Corgan before each show I saw shouted out Green Day for having them out on the tour.
