Re: The Weather
They switched away from the KW feed, which is too bad. The waves were really starting to get gnarly and ppl were still taking photos. I wonder if they took it down to discourage folks from doing that?

Not to be a total dickface here, but what percentage of people riding it out because "jesus is all the protection I need" own guns for protection?

Re: The Weather
I was just chatting with my wife about this. Our local news had folks flying into National to get away from the storm and my first thought was "that must be nice... lots of folks can't afford to leave because they don't have $$ for gas and indefinite hotel lodging."
But, yeah, I've seen some folks say they're letting Jesus take the wheel, absolutely.

The local news is absolutely taking this seriously, assuming they're listening to local hero Denis Phillips or Paul Dellegato.mister d wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2024 9:02 am If they're downplaying it based on the local news, I'm pretty sure more than just you are being gaslit.

Re: The Weather
That live weather broadcast is crazy! There were 14 active tornado warnings and two more came in during the 5 minutes I watched. With two active tornadoes. One they cut to a storm chaser’s dashboard camera. Best wishes to everyone in Florida or with people in Florida.
My cousin moved to Lakewood Ranch (looks like it’s about 45 minutes south of Tampa) a couple weeks ago, I think one day before Helene hit. Gotta be doubting their choice of a retirement home right now.

The Southern-Most Point footage is wild. It's not like it's submerged, but it is getting absolutely hammered and there are STILL ppl taking selfies and shit.

My mother-in-law and her husband live about 25 miles west of Orlando. She used the phrase "nothing serious" in a text to my wife.
When this was relayed to me, I immediately looked at their forecast, which is projecting an additional 10" of rain by tomorrow morning.

Re: The Weather
Damn, that was intense.
But I'd suggest to everyone to watch it on mute and fast forward to halfway because the clip is a bit too long and the commentary is stupid.
I didn't need to hear 'Matlacha bridge' that many times in 4 minutes.

I'm not a weather or logistics expert, but I'd think traffic should only be going in one direction on that bridge.

Look at this shit. Get your ass up to P3 or P4
Re: The Weather
I think Cantore scared the shit out of enough people that they changed the camera perspective. All is safe on P1, except for the electric car and bike parking.

Republicans are surprisingly confident that they'd win a modern day civil war considering the other side has the power to control the weather.

Pretty big crane collapsed in downtown St Pete. Family and friends who stayed-ish (didn't evacuate far, but got away from surge areas) are ok, I think. Went to type that then remembered I haven't heard from everyone.

Yep 400 Central, has two tower cranes, one didn't make it. 400 Central just topped out a couple of weeks back. Will be tallest building on west coast.

I knew when I saw those cots lined up in the outfield prior to the storm hitting that staging at the Trop was a bad idea. Hopefully they got the cots to the concourses, i.e. away from the canvas roof. Sister in law has a tree on her house, but apparently only minimally so. Father in law did fine. Haven't seen a definitive photo of my house yet, but I'm assuming we're ok. Thinking flood/surge got very close but didn't get to the house.
