Started frequenting Bluesky again recently. Feels like it's on the up a bit.

Maybe I should dip back in there, but it felt like a bunch of milquetoast white dudes trying to sound smart. Which is probably most of the content on the internet, and in podcasts. But at bluesky there wasn't anything else to distract me from the sadness of that.

When watching a video, click settings. You can turn off the auto-play function for the next video. Not entirely sure if that will solve that issue, but I haven't seen it in a couple days since I did it.rass wrote: Wed Sep 04, 2024 6:13 pmLove how the auto-play videos now roll into those ads that just auto-open the App Store. So, I guess it's related to Shannon Sharpe being live on instagram during an intimate moment.

And my video social feeds are now full of erectile dysfunction ads featuring Shannon saying something about their pill assisting with the success of that intimate moment... I guess... I scroll past it so fast I'm sort of unclear what the angle is... for the ad.

Re: Twitter:The New Batch
This may be the first time this has happened but this appeared on my feed from my small town. I know EXACTLY where this person was standing when they took this picture. It's about 5-6 miles form my home growing up.
I'm sure those of you who live in big cities or at the Griffith Observatory don't even notice it anymore when you see it.

Re: Twitter:The New Batch
City stuff doesn't do anything for me but seeing the kids' future HS in Garden State or unexpected (to me) shots all around the Vassar campus in some terrible streaming show my wife watched is always fun. Best example is the Dimpus Burger in Super Troopers being a burger king right around where I grew up.

Anyone else prepared to completely delete the app depending on the election results? With the recent rhetoric about dealing with “radical leftists” with the military and the revelation of musk coordinating with the trump campaign, it seems like a no-brainer.
Muh
Re: Twitter:The New Batch
I hadn't thought about it, but it's worth considering. If the concern is fear that the Trump Gestapo is going to come after you for your posts, I think it's too late to prevent that. Twitter probably has your full history whether you delete your account or not.Giff wrote: Sun Oct 13, 2024 7:26 pm Anyone else prepared to completely delete the app depending on the election results? Re: Twitter:The New Batch
A bit on the back story on this (gift link): Son writes hilarious, loving obituary for his dad: ‘He is God’s problem now’
When Charles Boehm sat down in his Houston home to write his father’s obituary, he was stumped.
“I’d never written an obituary before, so I decided to Google, ‘What do you put in an obituary?’” said Boehm. His father, Robert Adolph Boehm, died Oct. 6 at age 74 after falling and hitting his head in his Clarendon, Tex., apartment.
Boehm, 41, found the usual tips online about including a summary of the person’s life and a list of survivors. Then he stumbled upon an old obituary for Joe Heller of Centerbrook, Conn.
“Joe Heller made his last undignified and largely irreverent gesture on September 8, 2019, signing off on a life, in his words, ‘generally well-lived and with few regrets,” it began. “When the doctors confronted his daughters with the news last week that ‘your father is a very sick man,’ in unison they replied, ‘you have no idea.’”

I think I need a break from Twitter for at least a few days. How do you go about locking an account? I couldn't find it in mobile app, but I am also devolving into a much bigger idiot than I was before.DSafetyGuy wrote: Mon Oct 14, 2024 8:46 am If you do, lock your account to prevent someone from hacking it.

I've been happy with Bluesky, especially since so many people I followed on Twitter have now migrated over. And, Elon is such an asshole, with what he is doing in Pennsylvania, and with the new terms of service at X, etc. etc. etc.
So, I just deactivated my Twitter/X account, dumping my 1,000 followers. I feel like I just quit smoking or something.

I checked Bluesky the other day, after the Twitter announcement, and found that that vast majority of my follows still aren't posting over there. My whole feed is like 3 people posting.
