Shorthanded boner! It's been a beer league game.

The Club has called up Maveric Lamoreaux. Presumably he’ll debut tomorrow against the Avs.

VGK extend Theodore through 31-32 season so looks like he’s gonna be the last Golden Misfit.

Not psyched about the term but the AAV ($7.425M) might look good even for a mid-30s defenseman by the end of the decade.

There are some weird quirks but it really feels like the NBA has the cap the most right of any sport.

NHL is easiest to understand as a casual fan. NBA seems to have so many exceptions there might as well not be a cap.

Yeah, the problem is the things I like about both (NHL simplicity, NBA shorter terms) are objectively worse for the players. Although I think I think shorter terms would much better spread the wealth versus concentrating it into the guys who get LT deals and the 80% or whatever who don't.

Played a golf outing with Shane Pinto's dad today. Heard the whole story of the gambling suspension. 1/2 a season was crazy for that he did. Obviously, they are not big Bettman fans.

The boys deserved that one! Outshot Utah by a 2-1 margin (which generally happens against them). Scored three goals in the last five minutes of regulation to tie it, then won it in OT. Very satisfying.

Yeah, it's weird, because the Caps have started off 6-2 and that's great, but they've also played (tied for) the fewest game in the league. So they are in third place in the Metro.

Surprisingly good start, at least in terms of my expectations for this team. Some of the young guys are stepping up and McMichael is on fire.

Another goal for Ovie, another stellar night for McMichael.

The one glaring issue for this team right now is between the pipes. They are letting in a few too many softies.

But, yeah, I'm pleasantly surprised at how well the young guys are playing, and the offseason moves (while kind of on the fringe) are paying off pretty well.

Wilson got his first Gordie Howe Hat Trick in his career last night. Would have figured he cleared that milestone a long time ago.

Staying in Waltham for the night and took the kid on the train and into the Bruins game. 1-1 less than 4 minutes in.

GD they do the Ric Flair woo too. Silly.

McDavid the 99th player to log 1000 points.

The next in line are pretty interesting.

Brad Marchand - Born 1988, 942 points, 1047 games played.
Nathan MacKinnon - Born 1995, 932 points, 808 games played.
Jamie Benn - Born 1989, 915 points, 1127 games played.
Corey Perry - Born 1985, 909 points, 1327 games played.
Nikita Kucherov - Born 1993, 897 points, 740 games played.
Fun bonus, if Spezza unretires he just needs 5 more points.

I would not be surprised if Yzerman starts selling before the trade deadline to fully commit to the next wave of prospects. He had to know this past offseason that with so much of their cap space going to be directed to Seider and Raymond, he wouldn't be able to turn them a legitimate playoff team. No reason to act like they're anything more than a team on the outside edge of the playoff fringe.

What's the feeling in Detroit about the second Yzerplan? That tree doesn't appear to be bearing much fruit.

The rumbling for tangible progress is there and slowly growing, but I think he's still safe because he's an absolute franchise legend and they can immediately point to their terrible draft lottery luck because a shot at a true top-end prospect is the only thing they've ever gotten out of being so poor for so long. I think the next coach (Lalonde is not making it to next year) is the change that will accelerate the pressure.
